First, I'd like to say hello to all the other Elvis fans out there. I've been a member here for a while, but never posted anything. I'm 18 and I've been an Elvis fan my whole life - and hope to one day know as much as Leroy!
Question: When Elvis performed in 1969, his concerts were concluded by September. No other performances were scheduled until January of the next year. Why, if those concerts were so successful, was there a 4 month gap until the next string of shows?

I guess the first engagement was just a test, if Elvis still could draw large crowds. I think they still where afraight to do a tour and wanted to give Elvis some time. And it may have taken a while to set up the long term contract for more Vegas engagements until 1973.

Without a doubt it was the way Colonel Parker wanted it, "Keep Em Wanting More"
In the International shows from 69there was still an element of the 68 Special in there with the stool and the guitar...... very cool (y)

If I had to guess I'd say Parker who had a 4 month deal the first time wanted to let some time pass so he could ask for more money next time once they finished adding the reciepts and seen how much money was brought in during Elvis 1969 engagement there . The Colonel was pretty good at making sure the money kept going up (for him).

First of all, welcome to our forum. There were several reasons why they waited. First, he hadn't performed live in 8 years, so they weren't that confident to begin with that it would be successful. Of course when he shattered every attendance record in Vegas, they then were confident enough to go on the road, which takes a lot of planning. They did play 6 shows at the Houston Astrodome from Feb 27-Mar 1-1970, to 207, 000 people, in three days, incredible! They actually didn't start touring full force until they hooked up with promoter Jerry Weintraub of Concerts West, who payed EP and the Colonel a million dollars up front just to hook up with them. I believe there first tour together officially started in Sept of 1970, and the rest as they say, is history.

I agree.
Book Elvis for the second engagement ever at the International (Streisand opened the showroom), see how he does, and go from there. I'm sure they had other performers booked after him. So Elvis had to wait until the next opening and likely had priority from then on.
