Elvis image has always been altered and they always show a side of him to make people think he just was an eccentric and adict to pills etc, etc, etc (n)
Personaly i love to read his humanitarian side (and there are lots as you know) like buying some old woman a weelchair, paying for a father?s fan a funeral, paying for doctor bills to friends and people he even didn?t know, finding time between his hard schedule to visit little fans in hospital, making every christmas donations to charity ....
Do you know any story like these ? I?d like to know them ;)

Yes it would be nice to hear about the positive side of Elvis' personality for a while. I read somewhere that he paid for a kidney transplant for his friend George Klein and then read another article that said it was for Felton Jarvis. Does anyone know which one it really was for?

I remember hearing the story of Elvis at a car dealership and a woman walks by...Elvis sees her looking at the car and asks her if she likes it..She says yes, but that she couldn't afford it...He went intp the dealership, next thing you know, he hands her the keys to HER car....I can't remember where I read this, but I thought it was very generous of Elvis to do this for someone he didn't know...

Yes Franny...I knew it too and I also saw they made this episode in the last miniseries so it has to be true.
I don't know specific stories...but I know how Elvis was generous with others; you can only see what he did for his friends, buying a lot of things for them (cars, houses and so on)...he loved to see people's expression when he gave something.:'( (y)
I also knew about the story of the little girl who was ill of leuchemia...Elvis spent many hours with her...to make her happy (since she was her fan) and then, a bit later, that girl died. If I'm not wrong this is the little girl I'm talking about....

There's also a story of a radio DJ who read or heard somewhere that Elvis gave away a brand new caddilac in a certain color to someone.
(Can't recall those colors, but let's say it was green)
The DJ made some funny remarks about him wanting a caddilac, but please, no green, make it a white one Elvis, the guy joked.
Elvis heard this particular radio show and a day later he surpriced the DJ with a shiny new, white Cadillac in front of the studios doors.
Well, that's how the story goes, anyway... If it's true, don't really know, but a nice story nevertheless.

I love stories about Elvis' generosity, thank you for telling (y)
There was a story I remember reading about how, in 1957 I think it was, Elvis bought something like 1400 tickets for a charity football game for the blind and gave the tickets to all the pupils of Humes High School.
Also he once bought a house for his cook and, as thanks, he bought a car for the estate agent and the estate agent's mother.
And how he bought all the melons that a boy was selling on a stall on a roadside.
There are some quite moving stories here:

As Ale said, he did have a big heart :'(
yes our man had a great and generous heart. There are soo many beautiful storie about that. Even stories that he helped healing ill people with his hands, back in the 70's. Hmmm:hmm: , I wonder how true these stories are. I find it interesting, because I always believed that there's a higher power behind Elvis, because he reached such an unrealistic high level. I mean: there are many talented singers or artists but no one achieved what Elvis has. As if a higher power is involved in it. Now don't think I'm a nut. LOL. It's just my opinion, that's all.

I don't think you're a nut. I think Elvis did was he was meant to do - driven to if you like. Like his father said on Elvis' tombstone "he had a god given talent etc." and he also came with an extra - a warm loving heart.
Thank you Donut for letting me know who received the kidney transplant that Elvis paid for.

You are wellcome Diane :) but he didn?t pay for it, he talked to doctors he knew to accelerate the process and Felton got it from the usual way anyway but Elvis wouldn?t let him die if it was in his hands and that?s what counts. He couldn?t stand see people suffer. That was him.

There was a teenage girl with disabilities living in england in the 70s. her carer tried to help her as best as she could. on a trip she discovered the girl looking at a picture of Elvis with a smile on her face. The carer then discovered the girl liked Elvis. So she would buy her things like records posters bubble gum cards to make her happy. The girl seemed to make a slow recovery and was even talking. The carer wrote to Elvis and every day the girl would sit at the mail box waiting. This went on for ages and the little girl started to slide back to the way she was before .she lost heart. After this a letter came with a huge teddy bear from Elvis. He gave the girl his personal address and she was so happy and continued to write to him. Unfortunately the little girl died. A movie was made of this and was dedicated to Elvis for his love and compassion. It's called Touched By Love.

Thanks Donut, I had heard or read that he paid for Felton's kidney surgery...still he got involved and made sure he would be taken care of.
Elvis started this business of giving away things early in his childhood when he had so little but gave away comic books and toys to other kids in the neighbourhood.

I agree with you. He reached such a high level of fame and nobody has came close since. It is unbelievable, because god gave Elvis EVERYTHING. Looks, talent, fame, fortune, and it is terrible that he wasted it. NOBODY will ever reach the level Elvis was and still is.

The story of the "dJ" asking for a car, I believe was actually a Denver Colorado tv newscaster reporting the story of Elvis giving away a car to one of or several Denver policemen friends.
He closed the story by saying "if your watching Elvis? I'd like a blue (?) one". Elvis had the car delivered to the tv studio the following day.

remembering to include Gary Pepper about the particulars of his concerts, he sent Gary the music set list from the aloha show. i don't know much about Gary, his name appears randomly in different books, he was a handicapped young man from Memphis who Elvis came to know. in Jerry Schilings book, Jerry accompanied Elvis to Gary's home to give him wheelchair for Christmas. Gary had fallen & couldn't answer the door when Elvis knocked, Elvis saw the fallen Gary through a window & immediately entered the home & carried Gary, making him comfortable. Jerry says that Gary was embarrased, but Elvis acted like it was nothing to care for another human being like that. any info about this gentleman? Is he still alive? just who is he?

I would like to vote that GARY PEPPER with the TANKERS fan club was the GREATEST fan! He and Elvis had a very close realtionship. So many wonderful stories about how they loved each other! Gary was LOYAL to Elvis until the end... Gary's end, not Elvis... ;)
Gary took care of the TANKERS fan club, which was based in Whitehaven TN, was started by Elvis' cousin Bobby Smith, and was run by Gary until 1963 when there were just too many members for Gary to keep up with it anymore! He had Cerebral Palsey and typed with a pencil, but still wrote, edited, and sent out the newsletters quarterly... with help from him Mom.
Also Gary took it apon himself to make fans feel WELCOME in Memphis and kind of like was a hospitality chairman when fans came to visit. He and his mom would take them into their own home, just to make them feel welcome, and show them a good Elvis time!!
Come join the TANKERS 2 fan club to learn all about Gary, and the TANKERS! We are offering the opportunity to get in the mail, copies of original Tankers newsletters, pictures, , local newspaper clippings, and beautiful high quality copies of other "TANKERS TREASURES"... in your mailbox at home... just like GARY used to do it! (y)
Christmas this year will be EXTRA SPECIAL because everyone in our group gets a Christmas card with copies of my Aunt Penny's 3 ORIGINAL, NEVER BEFORE PUBLISHED PICTURES taken on June 2, 1958!! At Graceland, with Elvis in his convertable, with his military uniform on! FUN PICTURES!! YOU WILL LOVE THEM, AS MUCH AS ELVIS AND GARY LOVED EACH OTHER! :D

THIS FAN CLUB IS ALL ABOUT THE TANKERS, AND THE FAMILY THEY FORMED... WITH ELVIS, MEMPHIS, AND THE FANS!!!

That is quite a coincidence in the last paragraph.
