hey everyone, does anyone know where i can watch a clip of kurt as elvis? because i heard some sounds and its incredible how much he sounds like the king!!! if anyone could tell me where i could maybe find the 1979 film "elvis" that would be great !!:D

You'd probably have to go to ebay and get a bootleg of the film because its not available commercially. The voice,singing wasn't Kurt Russell though it was Ronnie McDowell singing Kurt just lip synched it. McDowell has done a lot of Elvis sounding tunes over the years he has a lot of CDs out.

I think Kurt Rusell 79? Elvis is for sure the Best and probably the only lets say decent personification of The King ever, that movie is a must have for any Elvis fan for sure. I have and old VHS copy, I still enojy watch it now days, Is a good movie anyway you look at it, not at all the ELvis and Me bull shit or the other ELvis and Linda THompson movie crap, dont remember the name of it.

About ELvis sounding guys, have you seen Fear and Load in Las Vegas with JOhnny Deep? I think he could have done a decent Elvis when he was younger.

I didn't think the movie was too bad as far as Kurt Russell playing Elvis. I think he did a fairly decent job.

The had a short romance after the movie. That's correct. Movie-wise I was not happy at all with the results. I saw the movie once and that was enough for me. They have tried to press as much muths into one movie as possible. Even events that happened during the seventies were crammed into this picture which ends in 1969. Kurt is even wearing a 1972 jumpsuit on stage while playing a 1969 scene.
It's also focussing upon the relationship between Elvis and his mother but in a very depressing way. If this movie is a must then only because of the fact you to see it just once. By the way: the 1972 jumpsuit Kurt is using is the original "Adonis". The producer got it on loan from mr. Vernon Presley. It never got returned.

Guess what?I totally agree...I didn't like it so much and I was quite disappointed.
I like Kurt Russell but he wasn't so good playing Elvis (n)
This is just my opinion...I've seen the movie just once and, to be honest, I wouldn't like to see it again.
Kurt did his best too...but if I have to choose I prefer the CBS miniseries, with all its defects and not a great Meyers but with many others good actors.
And the last performance in "Elvis: The Movie" was terrible too...and yes, with a very strange '69 jumpsuit! :lmfao:
Why do they always end these movies in a horrible way? :lol:
The truth is that you can be a great actor but when you're called to be Elvis....well....good luck! :laughing: (y)

You're welcome. To tell you the truth, the only mini series I found worth watching was the serie "Elvis" with Michael St. Gerard playing Elvis. First of all because at the beginning of each episode they stated that some scenes were fictional. Now that's honesty. They didn't try to start another myth. Secondly, and off course I realize this is just an opinion feeded by personal taste, I think Michael St. Gerard was the best one ever to play Elvis. I have taped all episodes when it got aired in 1990. For those who have never seen it, I can really recommand it.

I liked that actor but I could only see him in "Great Balls Of Fire"...I can't watch the tvseries here in Italy.
I'd be curious to watch something more about him because in "Great Balls Of Fire" he didn't really "act"...just a short appearence.:lol:

I have been looking for a copy of it long ago because saw Michael St Gerard "doing the part of Elvis" in Great Balls of Fire and i thought he looked great doing it and i?m very curious of how he acted in Elvis 1990 mini series. Leroy, I never knew that about the jumpsuit Kurt Russell wore at the end of the movie. I'm going back and watch it and check out that jumpsuit again.

Yeah, he had a hit song right after Elvis died entitled something like "The King is Gone" and sounded a lot like Elvis and that got his career in gear sort of. I think he's done some songs for some other Elvis singing parts.

My opinion folks ............. Kurt Russell's portrayal of Elvis in 1978 remains the benchmark by which any other attempts continue to be measured.

Regardless of it's chronological 'artistic licence', at times, particularly as the late 60's / 70's style Elvis, he convinces as much as anyone could possibly hope to. He has a commanding screen prescence in his own right, which of course is a must to even begin any successful portrayal of Elvis Presley.

No one has come as close since (though the Good Rockin' Tonight' TV show with St. Gerrard does have some merit). The short segments of the recent CBS mini series found on such places as You Tube have done more than enough to convince me not to even give that particular production the time of day.

Elvis The Movie worked as a one off production, but the only way to tell the Elvis story now must surely be through footage and audio of Elvis, the man himself.

All other attempts to cast someone in the role of the king since Kurt Russell's performance (with the posible exception of the TV series already mentioned - St. Gerrard's 'Good Rocking Tonight') have been monumental acts in futility.

I like Kurt Russell and I think he's entitled to an "off" day, as far as engaging with "the general public" goes. You don't know what kind of day he was having, or how many times, perhaps, he'd already been stopped that day, by people who recognized him and wanted an autograph or something. Also, he was a well established B-actor and Disney actor since his childhood days. In the US he certainly did NOT need a movie about Elvis to "put him on the map" as an actor.
I'm an Elvis fan, but saying such things about Kurt just seem to be a tad unfounded.

I met him around 1991 or 1992 when he was walking around with his wife and children on the beach. Ik was a nice day and he said he didn`t want to be bothered. At that moment it was a great dissapointment, because we came all the way from The Netherlands and would probably never met him again. But we respected his wishes and let him enjoy the day with his wife and kids. I respect Kurt, but the way he reacted was a disgrace. But Cherokee is right; maybe he had been bothered often that day.

Today there are so many celebrities that want their so-called time off. In a way I understand that. In another way I don't. They became famous because of their fans and should realize they are part of their lives. Elvis paved the way for other celebrities to learn. One thing he showed them was that he never ignored his fans. He always had time for them. I don't know very many out there today that handle their stardom in the gracious way Elvis did. That's one of the reasons I think even today so many people love him.

I think Kurt did a pritty good job in playing Elvis, it's just sad that the movie itselve wasn't great, like said before. Things didn't match up. If Kurt would have given a better script I'm sure he would have come out better. Strange that he ain't be what we would think he would be. He seemed a very nice person, who liked Elvis. Maybe he has his head to much in the clouds, because of his succes or he was bothered too much and I can understand that he wanted to have some time alone with his fam..

I couldn`t agree with you more Gayle, because that`s what bothered me about Kurt`s behaviour on Santa Monica beach. If Elvis would have walked there at that time, he would have taken time for signing autographs and take pictures with his fans. In my opinion Elvis is a much bigger star than Kurt Russell, so who is Kurt to put people down. (n) Moviestars and celebrities often complain about people following them, but those people put them where they are today. Elvis was (and still is) the only superstar who realized that. (y)
