Look what I found...

"JONATHAN RHYS MEYERS is convinced ELVIS PRESLEY was homosexual - as he is suspicious of his glitzy wardrobe and maternal attachment. The Irish actor, who played the title role in 2005 TV film ELVIS, has branded the HEARTBREAK HOTEL rocker "the gayest f**king thing on two legs" after time spent researching the star yielded truly camp results. He says, "Anyone who lives with their mama that long and dresses up in that much spangly gold with black lacquer on their eyes has definitely got something going on."

Okay...so I no longer like Jonathan Rhys Meyers. I can't believe he said all of that!

Maybe the way Jonathon Reiss Meyers played him, but in real life he was the farthest thing from you can get. Its been covered pretty well in here in the past but He was by far the worst "elvis" ever portrayed on film. He made Don Johnson look good.

God, don't you just love how some people believe these cliches/stereotypes?
"Anyone who lives at his parent's home past the age of 18 is a loser"
"Any woman who doesn't marry and has children is a lesbian"
"Any guy who loves his mom is gay"

Funny, I always get a HUGE gay vibe from this nobody. I guess Elvis has served his purpose for this little gnat, he won an Emmy for his appalling (sp) portrayal. He doesn't need Elvis anymore, so now he can bash him. I sense a tiny little dick herehttp://www.clicksmilies.com/s0105/teufel/devil-smiley-019.gif

Seems to me its pretty common these days for people to live at home past 18, and it was always common in poor families for them to stick together and help support each other. I guess he needed some publicity or something.

I don't know why they ever chose him to play Elvis...I can't even believe he won an award for it...

Totally agree!(y)

Even actors use make-up but...are they all gay?
I have never liked Jonathan R. Meyers  and I still don't like him so much (as a man and as an actor) but...well, it's just his opinion...Elvis had so many women next to him and they can still prove he wasn't omosexual.
He could have his personal taste and habits about sex but anyone has some...and please...the relationship with his mother is something ridiculous..:lmfao: ...was Jonathan R. M. drunk when he said that? This makes me feel he didn't understand a lot about Elvis..(n)

I hope for your sake you are not including me in your blanket statement. It's not what he says, it's the way that he says it and the timing. Like I said in my earlier statement:

If he was "just having a theory" HE wouldn't have had the need to resort to choosing an insulting and much too generalizing vocabulary >

"the gayest f**king thing on two legs" ........"Anyone who lives with their mama that long....."

It's JRM's wording of his "theory" that makes it insulting, not just to Elvis' memory, but to gays, too.

By now, Elvis would fall into the "metrosexual' category, which means that being cool, macho, heterosexual doesn't mean that you can take real good care of yourself.

Priscilla always says in all the interviews that she takes the burning torch of the memory of Elvis and presents herself as the widow. One example: Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi of Japan and President George W. It would be like Reese Witherspoon calling June Carter CAsh a backwards a** redneck countrified lowlife. I didn't dislike Jonathan as Elvis in the miniserie...he wasn't similar to Elvis but now I've learnt to take this kind of movie in a easy way (biography)...it' s impossible to see someone else "in his shoes". Elvis was unique as a man and as a performer.

Anyway...I was surprised to read his theory about Elvis..:supriced:
I did't like this actor very much and now I like him even less.
I have nothing against gay but you can't say Elvis was gay only because those stupid considerations.
So...I still don't care about him but of course he lost many "points" for me...(n)

Totally agree about others characters (for example the actors who played his mother and the Colonel or Sam Phillips) and more agree about the last performance that was horrible.
When it happened to see the miniseries I always jumped the 2 last performances ("Lawdy Miss Clawdy" and "If I Can Dream")....I can't watch them...if I do I don't know if I have to :lmfao: or :'( ....poor Elvis....that moments were a real insult. :cursing:
Anyway, I liked the miniseries in general...well, it's better to say I liked it a bit more than the others I saw in the past.
But I wouldn't like to see any other movie about Elvis....nothing about him can be reliable!!!(n)

I think we might all want to be a little careful.

I was shocked and angry at JRM's quote and I went to his website where they have every(or at least seems like every) magazine article he's been in.

I couldn't find him saying anything derogatory about Elvis.

Before we go condemning him we should make sure he said what's been attributed to him.

The Internet is notorious for being wrong.

Proceed with caution and fairly.

You're right, tjs!

I think our posts focus on what we read here...I can't know if he said or not those sentences but in case he told that....well that's my opinion about him.

And that quote, true or false, doesn't make me change my opinion about him as an actor...I still don't like him so much.(n)
In this interview Jonathan says something else...so I start to have some doubts he could really have said that bad things about Elvis.
Anyway...here's he speaks most about his music....take a look:

JONATHAN RHYS-MEYERS INTERVIEW

1.) What does it feel like to play the King of Rock-n-Roll? It was quite an experience, unlike any other thing I've ever done in my life. But it was good fun, it was a bit nerve-wracking at some stages - to portray such a big legend is a huge responsibility, but overall it was just a great experience. I had great fun.

2.) You've played a rock star before in Todd Haynes' VELVET GOLDMINE. What did you bring from that role to your performance as Elvis? My character in VELVET GOLDMINE, Brian Slade, was such a different kind of rock star. Elvis is so unique in every way, that I really had to go into this role with a completely new slate.

3.) What was it like working with Camryn Manheim and Randy Quaid? Camryn Manheim is probably one of the sweetest people I've ever worked with in all my life, and such a fantastic actress. And from the first moment we met each other we had such a great bond. We really loved each other very, very deeply. And it comes across on screen, you know. And Randy Quaid is one of the funniest guys I've ever met. He's hilarious! I remember seeing him for the first time on set, and I think I met his belly button before I met him, because he's so huge! And I said to the director, "Are you nuts?!?" So they had to give me these special shoes which I nicknamed "Frankies," like Frankenstein, so I had to wear these "Buffalos" so I could actually, in some scenes be the same height as Randy. So we had to do a little movie magic. It was really really funny. But he's a great guy. It was a great cast all in all. Robert Patrick was great as Vernon (Presley) and Rose McGowan is lovely as Ann-Margret. What a sweet girl. She's gorgeous, gorgeous! And Antonia Bernath, this young English actress, played Priscilla; she looks exactly like a young Priscilla Presley - fantastic.

4.) Do you have a favorite Elvis song? "Guitar Man" is definitely my favorite song by Elvis. It's semi-autobiographical and it's just such a great rock n' roll song?not to mention the fact that I love singing it.

5.) Why do you think Elvis' legacy has endured? There has never ever been anybody who has matched the phenomenon that Elvis had. The Beatles sort of matched it, but there was four of them. No one person has ever done what Elvis Presley did and he was the first. He had everything! He had the talent, he had the charisma, he had the sexuality, he had the looks. And it was all natural.

And here there's another piece of interview:

What was it about Elvis as a character that appealed to you as an actor?
Well, because he was a phenomenon, of course. Very, very talented, but he was also very contradictory, because he was very raw, very talented, white boy from the South, singing rhythm and blues in the 1950's, getting all the girls hot under the collar. But at the same time, he was a mama's boy, a great humanitarian, and a devout [Christian]. So, you know, he had that dichotomy. That's very interesting to play.

What was the toughest part of playing Elvis, do you think?
To get that energy. Because Elvis did a lot of things. Most people ask, "What was harder? The dance moves? The guitar playing? The singing or the lip-synching?" I'll tell you what it was ? the energy. If you're playing someone like Elvis Presley, the Elvis Presley that I know from reading and researching, you do it from the heart. So, I had to really put myself in those shoes. It was very, very hard, having to pretend to be Elvis Presley, because I'm an actor doing it, but unless you wake up every morning being Elvis Presley, you really don't know what that feels like.

What sort of research exactly did you do? Books, or did you watch all of his films? What exactly did you do to prepare for the role?

I watched documentaries, Elvis '54, Elvis '56, The Great Performances, Elvis in the Army, Elvis and June, which is about him and his relationship with his girlfriend, June Juanico, which has a lot of footage of him, Red West and the boys just hanging out on boats and shooting air rifles and stuff, which was really good stuff. There's actually this great sort of home movie in it, where they're shooting air rifles, and Elvis is holding out a packet of cigarettes for Red West to shoot it out of his hand. Which is really funny, because it's his right hand, and if he shoots his right hand ? that could've been the end of his career. He didn't give a care.

Who knows what is the truth?
Anyway...I read that news also in another site.:hmm:

JONATHAN RHYS MEYERS is convinced ELVIS PRESLEY was homosexual - as he is suspicious of his glitzy wardrobe and maternal attachment.

Melanie from Elvis-collectors write an open letter to Jonathan Rhys Meyers
Posted: Wed Jun 21, 2006 6:27 pm

Open letter to JRM,

I am sad to report that I actually paid for the DVD, because your mini-series was never on TV here. I thought that Mister Quaid, Mrs. Manheim and Mister Patrick might save the day. They delivered strong performances. I tried. Believe me I really tried. I loved the attention to detail, the sets caputured the eras quite beautifully, the clothes etc. But I got so irritated by your acting, your hair, your impromptu singing, that I had to stop watching, before the last act had finished. Some of the images still haunt me to this day. And Kurt R. is still gold standard.

And what must I read now? Let's not kid ourselves. The trashy report hardly qualifies as news, only two webpages ran the story. Not much PR is it? Let's assume you really made the statement and on top of that think you uncovered a fact. Considering your poor performance I think the only book on Elvis you might have read to "prepare" is The Hollywood Years by David Bret.

He writes that "Parker blackmailed Elvis into virtual slavery by threatening to leak reports of the romance. Parker held secret information about a homosexual affair between Elvis and actor Nick Adams over his head like a sword. He made it clear that... if Elvis didn't toe the line, he'd let it get out. At that time, it could well have ruined his career. That's why Parker had so much control over him. Presley's sexual experimentation began with a "teenage crush" on actor James Dean that grew into an obsession. Adams claimed that he had a brief affair with Elvis after Elvis agreed to be his date for a preview of Nick's 1956 film The Last Wagon. Presley, by then a sex symbol sending legions of women swooning, became smitten with Adams and even tried unsuccessfully to get him a part in his first movie Love Me Tender. In 1958, Nick Adams and Elvis stayed in the same room of the same hotel in New Orleans while Elvis was filming King Creole there. Many journalists' attempts to 'out' the star in the past were thwarted by his manager."

Says Bret. But did anybody believe him?

Now what's left for you to do? You should sell your Golden Globe on eBay and donate the money. Then hire a ghost-writer to churn out a trash novel called "Confessions of a Counterfeit King".

Here is hoping that I'll never read a new topic on you again, so kindly leave the Elvis world right now.

To be honest Jonathan Rhys Meyers looks like a gay "more than Elvis could seem"...this is the reason why I can only laugh thinking about what he said..if he said that...:supriced: ...and I noticed this aspect also in others movies...well, no doubt he was a perfect gay in Velvet Goldmine..(y)

It seems that these claims have caused quite a fuss.

A gay person can be a hairy 235 pound motorcycle-driving man with a mustache. And of course there are those who play the fool and wear lipstick. Anything is possible.

It's too bad that people still mess' with a dead man's private life, someone who's just unable to defend himself and his legacy. Maybe the Meyers-guy is craving attention and tries to get it with some negative publicity. Elvis was succesful without trying to diss others and if these claims are made by Meyers he shows to be immature and slanderizin'.

Elvis wasn't exactly 'homophobe'. He just wanted his physical integrity to be respected; he could get along with decent gay people too. (example) Some people react with violent anger if a doctor touches them inappropriately, irrespective of an attraction to a specific gender.

I don't think that, in his heart, Elvis really would have liked to be 'taken' (just like that: example 'Dolores Gomez' in Fun Acapulco) by a woman, but it was considered ungentlemanly to hit a woman.

Let's remember why we are all here - a mutual love for Elvis - we are all Elvis fans and should try not to fall out over silly actors making stupid comments (if he did).

The main reason he would have made a comment like that, would be to get attention and cause a stir - guess what he has done here! ;)

Meyers is just another untalented person driven by both jealousy and frustration, trying to generate some interest about him. It's really sad that he doesnt have the ability to do it by himself and has to result to putting down someone that isnt around to defend himself.

And no Meyers Elvis definitely wasnt gay, but your job of betraying him would give someone that idea if they were judging on that alone. You should go right now and thank your co-stars on the Elvis min-series for carrying you through the whole thing, and making a otherwise dreadful movie almost watchable. ;)

Joe states he would like to sit down with JRM to explain to him about Elvis, what's there to explain?? He already said this ridiculous rumour, obviously we the fans don't believe it, but we are upset that JRM said it!...Elvis had how many girlfriends?? If JRM did his homework as an "actor" he would have known that Elvis loved woman....If he thought so little of Elvis, why did he portray him in the movie? Larry Geller responds...

Larry Geller responds to Rhys-Meyers claims: If Jonathan Rhys Myers' remarks about Elvis weren't so mean-spirited, they would be laughable and not worthy of comment. But since some people don't know the truth they can be swayed or confused by lies. For those of us who knew Elvis and spent many years with him, this is particularly absurd. Of all people, Elvis was the essence of the all-American heterosexual male. Obviously, Jonathan Rhys Myers is looking in the mirror and his vision is clouded by his own questionable sexual orientation.

I don't know what the essence of the all-American heterosexual male is, but if it's true that Geller made those claims, he's at least showing some loyalty, no matter what I or others may think of his interest for the occult (he's the 'spiritual' guy, unless I'm very much mistaken).

Anyway you look at it, it's hard to judge a book by it's cover - although Elvis wore 'different' clothes and used make-up to 'endarken' the area around the eyes, he wasn't menacing and I feel the Rhys-Meyers-comments (if they have been made) are just insane.

"A sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament"

Myers doesn`t look one little bit like Elvis, his acting is worse and during the movie i`ve had the strange feeling that i was watching a remake of `Botox Pris` her movie, wich i didn`t like either. Even the lines from the movie where excactly the same as in `Elvis and me` (n)
And then comes this `nobody` telling us that Elvis was gay? I have news for him......I don`t care mister Myers, because i like Elvis as a singer and a entertainer. All the things you NEVER will be. I'm not so critical towards his performance...I didn't dislike the miniseries so much and I think the biggest mistake for us (the fans) is to want to see "Elvis" in these movies....it's impossible!!!!!:'(
I didn't find it so bad...although I don't like Jonathan R.M. as an actor in general and I admit it was hard to watch some scenes (for example "If I Can Dream"). :wallbash:
But about some forced expression I can't get angry with J.R.M. 'cause I saw the same difficulties in many others actors that played Elvis before (also Kurt Russell).
As I've already said it's hard to "act" something that in Elvis was natural...so I think we should be more comprehensive with actors called to be Elvis...THEY REALLY RISK THEIR CAREERS :lmfao: since Elvis is still so famous and loved.
For example...I liked Joaquin Phoenix playing Johnny Cash in "Walk The Line" but are we sure every Cash fan liked him?Maybe they found something strange compared to their favourite singer.

He carried out research, my foot, he obviously hasn't seen the 68 Comeback Special. If Elvis was still here he would show this jerk what a real man is - he would shoot him down in flames with that famous Elvis killer look. I agree about the fact they had never made a good movie about Elvis...this last wasn't very good too...but I didn't dislike as others I saw.
To be honest I didn't like either Kurt Russell playing Elvis...and we can't say he's not a good actor.
It's not a question of "good actor" or not, to me, just a very big difficulty to play Elvis as he really was.
This is the reason why I prefer not seeing any movies...this last one wasn't a "great movie" ...in my opinion just decent...more thanks to others actors than Jonathan Rhys Meyers....but after have seen "Elvis and Me"...well everything is a lot better for me....anyway..just defferent tastes...

It's hard to play Elvis' role on screen and what can they do to simulate the King, except for making a cartoon (which only requires a voice-over)..? And even if they do, how honest and realistic is Elvis' life being portrayed?

After so much scientific research, it is still not really clear what homosexuality is. After all, this term became stronger when psychiatrist's started out in the evil business. They put it in the category of paraesthesia; sexual desire for the wrong goal or object. (Krafft-Ebing wrote and published his book Psychopathia Sexualis, discussing this matter).

I feel that homosexual men are not by nature effeminate; many of the great heroes of history were homosexual - this (homosexuality) hasn't got anything to do with Elvis' different way of wearing hair and clothes, so I think it's better to leave Rhys-Meyers for what he is. I doubt he'll be very succesful as a serious actor trying to spread this plain meanness.

I'm impartial regarding Elvis' private life and erotic feelings; it doesn't really add much to his musical mastership. It's not up to me to give a definitive 'yes or no' answer - Elvis can't speak for himself right now, so it might better to stop minding these critters. Of course it is recommendable to defend Elvis; we are always in the midst of the paradox that the more we got to know, the more we know we don't know all that much..

The way I look at it is; each one to their own. Some people like Elvis, some people don't. Some people find men attractive, some people don't. Some people find women attractive, some people don't.

In 2006, matters of sexuality to me are not important, people should be judged for who they are and what actions they take. People who point to someone's sexual orientation as a means to demean them are livng in the stone age.

So when will metallurgy be invented?? It's kind of difficult to solve this problem - human beings have become so scientific and technical, though a lot of us still lurk in the darkness, like those who demean others. I guess that's why I heed the call to defend Elvis, educating the masses.

In the case of Jonathan Rhys Meyers I know I may be in the minority here but I didn`t find him too bad in the mini-series. With respect its the hardest job an actor can take as you are playing a real person and not only that but the most famous entertainer that ever lived.
You face so much criticism that its a wonder anyone would want to tackle the part. I found him pretty good in it considering the lame script and omitting the last musical number If I Can Dream which we all seem to agree was utterly horrid horrid horrid.
I don`t know whether he has had a lot of criticism and that is why he has said these comments (if indeed he has said them but it seems to be the case) and hes trying to get his own back by hurting the fans and the memory of Elvis as well but its certainly not the way to go about it.
I am very shocked that he has said this because he has made some wonderful comments about Elvis prior to this and he has let himself down more than anything else.
Where the hell have all these gay rumours come from over the years as there isn`t a scrap of evidence to support it.
Apparently Nick Adams told someone he had a gay relationship with Elvis and this someone made some money but how conveniant that both men were dead- Nick Adams died in 1968 and Elvis died in 77 so thats a lot of back up isn`t it.
Dee Stanley is even claiming Elvis was gay and she`d know wouldn`t she, yeah right.
But back to Mr Meyers comments and he is totally out of order with what he has said and since when does wearing flashy clothing make you gay?
How does being close to your mama make you gay as well?
I must be a raving homosexual then!
Anyone who lives with their mama that long has definitely got something going on said Mr.Meyers so he doesn`t say maybe he says definitely so I take it he must have been there then.
A lot of people in the South live with their families and their wives and children but obviously he doesn`t know this.
Anyway as Elvis`s mother died when Elvis was only 24 I hardly call that a long time.
How the hell does having a close maternal relationship with your mother make you gay oh my god everything is black and white in Mr Myers world.
He certainly has a lot to learn and by all accounts he is a homo himself so why has he not got a close maternal attachment and why isn`t he wearing flashy clothes?
He has only humiliated himself in the end with his spiteful comments.

Anyone who lives with their mama that long has definitely got something going on said Mr.Meyers so he doesn`t say maybe he says definitely so I take it he must have been there then.
A lot of people in the South live with their families and their wives and children but obviously he doesn`t know this.

Stereotype, stereotype..

I agree with you - there are gay people who ignore their parents and straight people who love them..

Living with families, wives and children sounds like a noble thing to do - by any means it is to be preferred above 'every man for himself' and yet again these characteristics have nothing at all to do with orientation.

People that live in glass houses........ He does a better job playing up the homosexuality here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXHvxWPBWWQ&mode=related&search= than he does playing Elvis in the movie.

I'm sorry if it seems strange to bring this thread up again, but there's something I wanted to say about the gay-thing, defending Elvis.

I don't think Elvis was gay, because homosexual people who desperately try to hide it (for image's sake) wouldn't make jokes in front of the TV & a large crowd the way Elvis did with Charlie Hodge; (if he needed to hide something) he would be more like Aaron Carter or Billy Gilman ('don't get me wrong... I do have feminine friends' or the manager might threaten to sue you!)..

Dennis Hopper, for example, made a statement about James Dean which I think was very clumsy:

"What pisses me off is that they dwell on the idea that he was a homosexual"

What's the use of being pissed off? Does it seem too unbelievable that a gay person would be able to achieve anything, perhaps?

If you don't think a person was gay, you can write/say:

"Although some people have said he's gay, I have reasons to think it's not true/my observation or information doesn't lead to that conclusion".. I somehow get the impression 'pissed off people' need to hide something.

Ask the thousands of women that EP reputedly slept with, or better yet, his bodyguards who lived with him night and day for years. Just a ridiculous statement from an ***** actor who had no idea what EP was about.(n)

I watched only the part one of Elvis the early years(2005) and feel absolutely NO need to surch for the second part( "The later years" I think it`s called)
From what I saw in part one, Jonathan Meyers knows nothing about Elvis at all......this statement of his is just ridiculous

Jonathon Meyers portrayal of Elvis was basically total rubbish the guy is a midjet Elvis was 6-1ft,his accent was rubbish, his acting stinks, his whole acting style was crap.OBVIOUSLY THIS GUY IS SO UNTALENTED that he had to make a false remark like that to get some publicity.I don't think he will make any progress in the acting world as he is fake and totally see-through.Elvis had more talent in one strand of hair then that guy has in his whole body.

Well, I agree with you on pissed off ppl need to hide something. It's true, but also joking can be a way to hide it. If you make fun of something, everybody assumes it's just humor and how many of us hides behind the jokes? Quite many!

JRM said that comment before he won the golden globe award. I do believe that it might have been a publicity stunt or he doesn't know how much Elvis contributed to America's big screen image, make up and all. Elvis had blonde hair and needed to match his eyelashes with his hairdye but he would never of known that cause they never shot any sceens with Elvis as a blonde. From day one in the Sun records days, they had him in black hair. JRM is an excellent actor and I do believe that he did an awesome job on the part and the side of Elvis they wanted to show. Mostly the fustration with the changes of the 60s but overall, the script towards the end was bad and extreamly rushed only to end at the 68 comeback.
JRM was probably in my opinion the actor to who best played Elvis so far. That's for the acting abilities side of it. The music side of it I wasn't impressed with at all. They needed a body-double to play the stage sceens. He looked stiff and in some parts, I'd have to say, GAY. I had to turn it off during, If I Could Dream, that's how bad the music productions were.

Well, I did wonder how you all felt about this, since I am gay and do want Elvis' integrity being respected, I think they have tried to hurt his legacy often enough. I think those mentioning this guy wants publicity are right..

I don't think you can spot all gay people a mile away and some are even what they'd call 'macho' - what (you can't say: macho = straight) proves that Elvis, not being a typical construction worker type of person (physically), was straight.

Let me tell you I'm not a gay artist but an artist who just happens to be gay.. ;)

It has been said that Elvis was the all-American macho heterosexual - heterosexual perhaps, but the All-American macho thing just doesn't ring true. He was a very sensitive kind of person, although he had that image of the tough, rigid rebel.

May I add I'm not the decadent or excessive one and people would have a bewildered look on their face if I would say to a guy 'great you've got a girlfriend, but keep it in the bedroom where it belongs, please' - don't people realize how stupid that is?

Elvis didn't appreciate anyone violating his physical integrity, it didn't have anything to do with machoness or being homophobic. Remember Elvis learnt (more about) how to relate to his crowd and the dresscode from Liberace!

'Don't criticize what you don't understand son'! Elvis remembered that from his childhood!

My opinion is that it's absolutely foolish of that Rhys-Meyers guy to talk about Elvis like that.

And I'm familiar with this: 'since I'm a Christian I think it's wrong being gay.. and I have been in the military!' I just laugh at those guys, although it's most of all an American problem.

Anyones sexual orientation is there own business. However - the world is full of bigots who oppose peoples sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity etc...

I do think Elvis was homophobic, he didn't like the feminist movement as he used to joke about it when Priscilla or any of the women would voice an opinion etc...

Elvis was a typical Southern American Male who absorbed his surroundings and adopted a cultural identitiy similar to those around him. It is amazing that Elvis wasn't a racist - which he wasn't, but as for being homophobic - i would say he was slighlty homophobic. Not to the extent of being a bigot etc, but only because it was something he probabaly didn't entirely understand due to there being a lack of awareness about it in those days.

Hell - Alexander the Great enjoyed mens company and he conqured most of the known world!

I kinda like your post. I've seen pictures of Elvis spending time with Liberace and there was no homophobic thing noticeable. A gay person would be able to talk with him, as long as there's no violation of his integrity or outrageous behaviour in general - I don't like that either.

Yes, he was a Southern American Male (as far as America is really a coherent country rather than a corporation) - I've got respect for his manners: treating old folks, the sick or whatever-'minority' with dignity.

Elvis was certainly not the one to hate other races, which would have been difficult anyway, having Native American roots.

And yeah, Plato and Michelangelo were gay too. Although most gay guys marry a woman, being conformistic.

Exactly.

Society dictates - or should I say used to dictate to people how to live their lives.

People are entitled to have their own religion or to have consenual sex with anyone they want.

Elvis certainly exhibited a lot of his female side in his dress and dance. Essentially Elvis was very capable of expressing his femininity.

Well, what I like about Elvis is that he had the guts to be different. He proved that a graceful guy is not always gay.

Society still dictates to find a girl, settle down, play soccer in Europe or American Football in the US, buy a mobile phone, have 2.1 kids, listen to MTV's music, eat at McDonald's.. be normal!

?After a non-stop succession of filming Jonathan Rhys Meyers has entered an alcohol-treatment program,? rep Meredith O?Sullivan says. ?He felt a break was needed to maintain his recovery. Jonathan plans to resume his schedule following completion.?

Jonathan Rhys Meyers Checks Into Rehab
TUESDAY APRIL 24, 2007 01:00 AM EDT
By Julie Jordan

Jonathan Rhys Meyers, star of Showtime?s The Tudors, has entered a rehab facility, his rep tells PEOPLE exclusively.

?After a non-stop succession of filming, Jonathan Rhys Meyers has entered an alcohol-treatment program,? rep Meredith O?Sullivan says. ?He felt a break was needed to maintain his recovery.?

The 29-year-old actor, who costarred with Scarlett Johansson in Woody Allen?s Match Point last year, plays Henry VIII in The Tudors, which premiered on April 1, and recently finished filming the drama August Rush with Keri Russell, Terrence Howard and Robin Williams.

Meyers?s rep adds: ?Jonathan plans to resume his schedule following completion.?

This sounds like a very proactive way for Jonathan to be at his best mentally and physically right before he starts filming the second season of ?The Tudors?. This is also a chance for him to get some much needed rest before resuming his demanding schedule.

I hold no malice to wards Jonathan Rhys Meyers the guy obviously is suffering from small penis syndrome  How sad that he feels embarrassed playing the king, he obviously feels he need to distance himself in some way, he needn't have bothered he is already a million light years away

In all seriousness, I feel for this guy, if he needs to diss the king he must feel insecure about himself, whereas Elvis never felt insecure, he could and would wear whatever he wanted, it must have been very liberating.

It also says: "The final freeze frame leaves us with a trim, beautiful E as we want to remember him." If that were the case maybe they should have put more effort into getting an actor who isn't way too thin and 4 inches shorter than E..(n)

That is the sad thing E has just basically been looked over..And I mean like he is such an icon that people really don't give him a second look...Gosh I am having trouble explaining what I mean in words...Like E just has been seen to many times they don't pay attention to what he really looks like..That is the best I can describe it.

I think a lot of it is the type of people they have playing Elvis in these movies and the type of things that is put out about Elvis that the "real Elvis" is often over looked and less appreciated. People just see the big hair and huge glasses that is put out there to represent him that they forget what the "real Elvis" was like. It is such ashame because he was just so much more than that!:'(

Does anyone know who advised Lisa to sell that large a percentage in the first place?

Diane

Not sure diane, but this alittle message is from lisa about selling.

A Personal Note from Lisa Marie Presley:

Hello and Happy Holidays!

I would like to further clarify and ease any weary minds (If there are any about the recent business announcement.)

First off, companies merge all the time and while it is true that EPE has been successfully holding its own for 25 years, myself, my mother and the board came to realize that in order to take the business to a whole different level, merging with another provenly successful team would accomplish that.

The search for the right person has been going on for years, none of us at EPE would have done this if it weren't in the best interest of my father and his legacy. No stone was left unturned in making sure that business will be run as it historically has been, with integrity, always preserving and protecting my father.

The executives, my mother and myself remain very active in the operations of Graceland and its entities. What is and has been done will remain, and merging with Bob Sillerman and his team simply gives us new opportunities that we didn't have before.

Business-wise any company can always grow, what is predominately sacred and can never be touched is Graceland itself and its contents and artifacts and that is and remains mine and my family's forever.

Frankly, we are all united and excited about this and I send my best wishes to you and yours for the holidays.

Much love,
LMP

I bet Lisa wishing different when she see the stuff that has came from EPE and even pasty presley must be just livid over some things.
