This is something I read on the internet. Maybe it's interesting for some of us. I don't mean to state anything political, it's just kind of bizarre that a US president would visit Graceland..?

So how do people feel 'bout it? I wonder how Elvis would have reacted..

The following text is the information I found (please forgive me moderators, if this thread is somehow inappropriate):

No more rumor and speculation. Following is a statement from The White House press secretary, issued during the president's visit to Iraq:

THE WHITE HOUSE
Office of the Press Secretary
(Baghdad, Iraq)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For Immediate Release June 13, 2006

STATEMENT BY THE PRESS SECRETARY

Visit of Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi of Japan to Memphis, Tennessee

The President and Mrs. Bush will accompany Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi of Japan to Memphis, Tennessee on June 30, 2006, the day following the Prime Minister’s visit to the White House. The two leaders will visit Graceland Mansion, home of the Presley Family. The President and Mrs. Bush look forward to introducing the Prime Minister to the beauty and warm hospitality of the people of the Volunteer State.

Great news.... Graceland is an historic landmark and a presidential visit would really give it glance...

I have some more information about the trip.

From an article in the newspaper:

The 64 year old Prime Minister Junichiro Koiumi is well known as the most serious Elvis disciple of todays' world leaders. He shares a birthday (Jan. 8) with the rock icon, and his brother once ran the Presley fan club's Yokohama chaper. In 1987 he was one of the key players in erecting a bronze statue of Presley in Tokyo. He's sung Elvis tunes poolside at President Bush's Crawford ranch and dazzled Condi Rice with his knowledge of Elvis trivia at a G8 dinner. And in 2001 he released a 25 song compilation CD called "Junichiro Koizumi Presents" My Favorite Elvis Songs." It was sold only in Japan, and all proceeds went to charity.

If I were president, I'd not only visit Graceland, I'd push to have Elvis' birthday recognized as a national holiday.

Anyone want to vote for me?

?You know, Bush (sr.) is always comparing me to Elvis in sort of unflattering ways. I don?t think Bush would have liked Elvis very much, and that?s just another thing that?s wrong with him.?

I've heard that GW is an Elvis fan, or at least was. He used to get into trouble for playing Elvis music too loud. I've never heard him state anything to the contrary.

:lmfao: Bush Sr. compared Bill Clinton to Elvis :lmfao: Is that a joke??
Although, I do think Clinton was a better President than the (present) Bush Jr.:lmfao:...that's just my opinion...I don't live in the U.S., but from what I hear a lot of people around the world were surprised when Bush was re-elected...

Not to end up political here I won't even mention what I like or don't here but I went through the Clinton Presidental Library last week in Little Rock. It was pretty cool to see that he had a lot of Elvis items in there from his personal collection and though I don't remember them they had a couple of quotes and such on the wall where Clinton went on and on about how much He loved Elvis. Also it mentioned there that he was such a big fan that the Secret Service guys even caught on and used Elvis as his code name in radio communications "Elvis has left the building" etc . I just kind of got a kick out of it because of how influental Elvis was to heads of state now that we know several of them around the world have been big fans .

Morticia, oops, Priscilla and Lisa Marie will greet the Shrub and the Japanese Prime Minister at Graceland on June 30th.

Earlier today in an interview with the Associated Press, Elvis Presley Enterprises CEO Jack Soden confirmed that when Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi of Japan and President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush visit Graceland on June 30th, Priscilla Presley and Lisa Marie Presley will be there to welcome them. The AP story is expected to hit the wire as early as tonight.Source: EPE (http://www.elvis.com/) / Updated: Jun 16, 2006

Even though I'm not from the U.S. I must say I liked Clinton very much and I think he was a good president (Even though his flesh was somewhat weak. LOl.) Clinton is a devoted Elvis fan and he visited Graceland. We all know that the Bush fam. don't like Elvis and I love the idea that they are now "forced" to visit Graceland. Maybe they'll change their mind about Elvis now and respect him more.

Some don't like Priscilla that much and it's something I can comprehend. She can be very cold and .. business-minded..

I must admit that Priscilla was both realistic and funny in the Naked Gun movies! In the second part, there is a theme 'bout Bush sr. - I think it was hilarious!

Now that 'Cilla considers herself to be the 'merry widow', she can meet and greet the president, although a lot of people do hate him.

As A Child, George Bush Wanted To Be Elvis
By: Elvis Australia - April 23, 2004
Source: whitehouse.gov

During the 1950s when he was in the fourth grade, President George W. Bush's greatest aspiration was to be Elvis Presley, First Lady Laura Bush said Wednesday during a ceremony to honor Teacher of the Year.

Laura Bush said the president's mother Barbara Bush had to rescue her son from the principal's office after he used charcoal to draw sideburns on his face and he disrupted his music class.

I also think it's great that Bush will be bringing the Japanese prime minister to Graceland. Would prefer to see just Lisa Marie greet them but she needs her mother to lean on.

I was surprised to read that George Bush admired Elvis but I'm glad to hear it as it gives him one point in his favor anyway. I also preferred Clinton even though he embarrased us all and himself, I feel he was much more for the people and more like John Kennedy who was much the same way. In my personal opinion John Kennedy and as born and raised in Canada (my heart is still there), he and Trudeau are of the few noteworthy heads of the two countries we've had so far.

He was just a clown to have had a relationship with th?t woman..

Anyway you look at it, I think it's strange that being untrue to your wife while being in office leads to some Republicans calling for impeachment, and sending people to die not. The same goes for the sloppy financial choices made before the hurricane in New Orleans.

It's not bad for Graceland that Bush is coming. I hope that he will show how to honor Elvis and pay his respects.

The majority of politicians in any country are unfaithful to their spouses as are most in the music and film industries. It's part of the lifestyle of high profile positions unfortunately.

Back to Bush and the Prime Minister of Japan going to Graceland.....does anyone know if it's going to be broadcasted on television? I would love to see this.

I'm sorry MenWithBrokenHearts for not thanking you before for this great video clip of the presidents visiting Graceland. I meant to and then forgot.......

I loved it! I've seen photos taken as well that were great. It's nice to see a head of state has a sense of humor and enjoys the little things in life like his putting on the Elvis glasses and the karate move. :)

There is a clip on Youtube.com from ABC news. At least that network got the Ex-Wife part correct.
