The Macon Coliseum [Archive]

Well, as many of you know that Elvis performed here 5 times. Two times in 72, one time in 75, one time in 76 and one time in 77. Well, on my forum I was talking about The Macon Coliseum and the way it looks different from then to now. Well, today I took a trip to Macon and since I was in the area I took pictures for you all to see the place.

I know small picture but this is the only picture I found of this place during Elvis' days.

The building with the greenish top is the coliseum and the part that hooks on to it is the Centerplex which was added in the 90s.

This is the Coliseum itself. View from the west. You can't really tell but they added a new front to it. This front was added when the centerplex was added. You can see part of the new front that is in the picture.

Well, What do you think of the pictures? Well, that is not all. Well, the place was close and I wanted all to see. The next series of pictures I didn't take. It was on their site which I didn't know they had one.

Inside the Coliseum. Basketball is mostly played here now but we do get visits from the WWE, Elton John, Billy Joel and others from time to time.

This is views of The Macon Coliseum including a view of the Auditorum which Elvis also performed at but he performed here in the 50s. Now you might says their is no evidence that he performed here in the 50s. Yes, Their is. Their is photos from that show in the auditorum. Auditorum is in about a mile away or so from the Coliseum. Also in this gif file is the new front of the Coliseum which looks alot different since Elvis' days.

Here is little info I found.
Built in 1968 and renovated in 1996, it was the first facility of its size and type in the state and has housed full-house crowds for greats such as Elvis, The Jacksons, Billy Joel and Reba McEntire!

I think you misunderstood. When you look at the GIF file that show different areas. The one of the Auditorum is at a different location than the Coliseum. It is about a mile or so away but own by the same people. Coliseum was built in 1968 and this took most of the concerts away from the auditorum. Willie Nelson perform just a few days ago at the Auditorum. This is a aerial view of the Macon Auditorum.

Completed in 1925, the Macon City Auditorium is nestled in the historic district of downtown Macon and is, in itself, a historic landmark listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

But Elvis performed here only one time. Just before he ended the show he was quoted to have said "You been a wonderful audience and I just might come back one of these days". Well, he never perform again at the Macon Auditorum but he did came back to Macon until April 15, 1972 AS. I know a person who went to this show but he moved away. But he told me that Elvis said that it was great to be back in Macon after a long time. He said it hadn't changed much.

Hey Big Boss Man. That sign does look great but it isn't the same one when Elvis was their. If you want that sign watch the theaterical version of This Is Elvis. Not the home edition VHS. But the theaterical version. The sign of the Macon Coliseum is in the movie but only for a les of a second. But that is the original sign.

Great thread about the Macon Coliseum - nice pics too!

Apart from the Centerplex addition I feel it doesn't appear to have changed that much. So, Elvis also played this very same auditorium in the 1950's too?!

I really like these articles that bring you a 'Then' & 'Now' slant on the subject. It would be very interesting to know which stadiums/arenas Elvis played in the 1950's and again in the 1970's and also give us some information about how it looks today just like 'Elvislennon2004' has done.

Oh if you want to know. I forgot to tell you. Macon Auditorum hasn't change one bit since Elvis was their. Well, their was a few changes inside but you wouldn't noticed. Let's say if Elvis walked into the place he would fell he went back in time.
