Hi All :)

I would like to know about songs that Elvis listened to before his carrer
(In the 40's - early 50's..)

I know that he liked songs like "Old Sheap" and "My Happienes", but which gospel songs sang he in the church?

If someone know about some songs/Gospel groups that Elvis listened to or got influence from, please write them down here :)

I'm sure it will be much easier to explain how it was in the chuch if i could listen to the same as Elvis did (y)

There are some cds out that cover "Southern Gospel" and have singers like the STamps, the Statesmen, etc.. You can get a Southern Baptist or Petacostal. hymnal off of ebay and it will have alot of the songs Elvis listened too. Just Make sure it is from the 50's or earlier. He also listened to country and western from then as well as blues artists.

You may also check on some Blues sides from 40's and 50's: Junior Parker, Arthur Gunter, Arthur Crudup, Lightin Hopkins, Howlin Wolf, B.B. King. BLues and R & B stuff from the Chess and Sun Label, also some Ray CHarles from his early period, Big Joe Williams. And on the Gospel field you may check some Mahalia Jackson sides.
