I always tend to cringe when I hear other versions of Elvis songs. I thought the
American Idol show was going to be very cheesy and mess up the entire Elvis theme this past week.

Fortunately, I was wrong. I thought most of the performances were pretty good, and enjoyed seeing them do the Elvis "thing."

Let me just say that I am not one of Chris' biggest fans......but I really enjoyed his two songs (Suspicious Minds and Little Less Conversation). I thought he was the best of the night.......and he wound up getting the boot. I won't miss him, but in my opinion did the best two Elvis songs of the night. I also liked Kat's first skit of Hound Dog and All Shook Up. Very cool.

I viewed this show the other night and wasn't impressed. The only performance I enjoyed were the 2 by Taylor Hicks (who by the by is going to win:D ) other than that it was (n) . I didn't like the fact they brought each of them into the music room in Graceland and sung Elvis songs  to me that was very disrespectul.

I didn't like the feeling when Priscilla showed the grave of Elvis to the candidates. It looked like she showed just another memento that goes with the house.

She shouldn't have done that. It was the first time I saw her standing at his grave. I wonder does she and Lisa often take the time to visit his grave.

It wasn't very emotional to say the least:hmm:

I also had that little ill feeling when I watched EBTP. They are all celebrating and eating and drinking which of course they may do, but the feeling that he isn't there and he is the one burried under concrete while everyone is having a good time , then I really feel sad.

In the dvd they show Graceland in all of his beautiful aspects but they did not stand still at his grave , I don't know. I used to like Priscilla a lot but nowadays I have read so much about her and I really am wondering did she deserve him.

I know he loved her very much, that one I am still convinced about but how much did she loved him, really?:hmm:

Sad but I have to deal with the things I know and see.

My eyes opened but I do not feel good about it, I have to admit.

I have to agree here, I had a bad feeling about all of them being there at Graceland and the way they handled the show. Didn't think they should have gathered there for that purpose.

I don't think they should have been inside Graceland and playing the piano in Elvis' Music Room. I didn't think it showed much respect for Elvis.

To me Graceland is a reverent place, that's the feeling I got when I went twice. I felt his presence there. My thoughts are silent ones and not to be put out to the public with American Idol hosting a show from there. I found it very distasteful.

Tommy it's strange when I went to Graceland, I also felt his presence very strong. Don't talk about it very often because people think that I just exagerate when telling them that.

Nice to hear it from another person.;)

They should not trespass his house that much. Using his piano, moving the furniture etc. We the fans aren't allowed to touch anything but they came and suddenly all the rules were forgotten (n)

i have nt seen it but it sounds very distastefull to me
sillerman as done all this because he owns the american idol and itt just proves how tacky this will all be come
elvis s objects and personal items dont mean shit to him as long as money is made
we ( thefans) are not allowed to go past the ropes into each room but because its the american idol they are and they probably aren t genuine fans like we are
it is OUT OF ORDER
we cant use video cameras in the grounds but they are
i remember a tv documentarry from a bout 25 years ago where sir david frost took a whole group of british fans to the states to visit graceland and they were filming the fans and the guards marched them off the grounds and were very rude and made them turn off the camera
but when its something that is from them or when they are being paid a whole load of money then they allow it

priscilla has to take part because she got a load of money form sillerman (millions) when he got control and she has certain obligations
shes basically in it for the money $$$
she doesn t have respect either for his possesions
the whole thing is pathetic

Tommy it's strange when I went to Graceland, I also felt his presence very strong. Don't talk about it very often because people think that I just exagerate when telling them that.

The time I went to Graceland and walked in the front door, hairs on the back of my neck stood on end. It was a very strange feeling. I guess that it was probably Elvis. It did feel like he was still there...

On A.I. I was excited to hear that they dedicated this week to Elvis, I think that he would have been proud. It's funny how I found out about it. I usually just stumble upon "Elvis" things. It's kinda like a sixth sense I have (Does anyone else have it too?). Anyway, I like Taylor, he's my favorite and I think that Elvis might have liked him too. He did a great job singing Elvis' songs and so did Chris. The only thing I didn't like is how everyone tried to "soup" up Elvis' songs. Like Simon said, "I wanted Apple Pie and got Apple pie with a glob of cream..." Well, I guess each to his own.

Now on the part about them parading around Graceland... I think it was great that they got to see Graceland because not everyone gets to see it. The only reason I got to see it is because I got family down in Memphis. I think it wasn't too cool of them to take over the house the way they did. When something like Graceland holds great memories and spirit I think that you should try your ****edest to preserve it.

In regards to all the comments about American Idol "taking over" Graceland and being disrespectful in the music room on the piano......Can't you just imagine all the other things that have gone on in that mansion since his death? I mean, it's not like people arent' going through that house everyday......I'm sure other celebrities have had their own personal "tour" of the house and gotten to do more than just "walk" through it. I think it's quite silly to think the mansion is what it once was.....and as it once was. I'm sure we'd all like to think that it is being kept pristine like Elvis would want it......but it's more of a museum now than a holy shrine.
I've also heard that they are using the upstairs as storage for a lot of things. His private bedroom has not been "locked up" as they say. They make a big deal out of being respectful of Elvis......but sometimes it's such a joke the way Priscilla and Lisa Marie parade people and events through that house.

i know that priscilla was swimming in the pool next to elvis s grave a couple of years afteer he died which is disgusting
having now watched the ameerican idol shows i have no objection to them touring the mansion but i didn t appreciate them rehearsing thier songs there.
i thought it inappropriate to say the least
they could have rehearsed in a studio somewhere else
but its not a home anymore its all a bout $$$
lisa didnt participate much in it
a couple of thing s made me laugh- priscilla saying this is the dining room where WE ate
this is OUR hall of fame
well i never knew that she sang on the records
:D

she is sounding more like his widow everyday even being called the first lady of rock n roll
and she met the contestants at the door but it s funny when elvis was alive she couldnt wait to get as far away as possible

I loathe the idea:angry: ..those cheap reality shows have nothing to do with Elvis and his sacred place, specially the music room!!!.."IDOL"is such a big word ..but anyone can be an idol in a tv show nowadays..you can do anything on tv and in front of the world actually, this is the trend..
and that scene in front of Elvis's grave hurt me too bad..

I have read the posts here and I have to agree, although I didn't watch the whole show, from what I did see, a lot of it was disrespectful to Elvis...

I think it was wrong that they were rehearsing at Graceland....they could and should have went somewhere else...
When it comes to Elvis, like someone mentioned, it's all bout making $$$$...(n)

That does ring a bell. In some Dutch socialist circles they call it 'nivellering' - let's all try to be the same and average. Of course, this kills talent and natural creativity. Anyone can do anything - that's why soapstars can 'act' and 'sing'. It's a hellish existence for those who don't wish to be dull and flat.

If other artists want to interpret Elvis' music (I certainly do not mean: to become an impersonator), they better be darn good and original. I don't think it's a crime to sing a song which has also been recorded/performed by Elvis, but there should be a sign of artistic talent, determination, devotion and passion.

here's the link to him singing it... http://www.americanidol.com/videos/?cat=18
he looked so shock when he was voted off, I felt bad for him, but he already has offers for a contract, so he will do great!

i wasn't impressed by any of the performances but at least this time
they sang some great songs unlike in the past.
if you listen to all of the performances and then compare them to
the elvis originals , they pale in comparison.

Taylor Hicks the winner of American Idol last night!!!
Yahooooo for him!!!!!!!

Chris Daughtry was there with his band and was in his own
element... good job!!!

Katharine McPhee... I am sure will have many good opportunities.
as she is a young and beautiful girl with a good voice.. She can
sing Somewhere over the Rainbow like an angel.

I don't think it was disrespectful at all having American Idol at Graceland. I think Elvis would have just loved to see the great rising talents come through his doors and if he were alive, I'd bet he'd be at the front door welcoming them in.

Think of the enormous exposure of Elvis to a young and new generation that perhaps doesn't know much about Elvis. American Idol has helped spread the word by dedicating an entire show to him.

It was tasteful and fun to watch.
