My friend Lakeisha posted this over at another forum and it's got me thinking. What if? Here's what she had to say and it makes ya think what if this did happen to Graceland.

It was mentioned the other day that Memphis has dodged a lot of potential deadly storms over the years. Mainly tornadoes and that we are due for a massive tornado to hit and when they said where the most likely area would be struck me hard....WHITEHAVEN where I used to live and where Graceland is located.

We here in the Memphis area are in what is known as "potential tornado alley", but are always spared of the destruction that tornadoes bring. We sometimes have hard hitting thunderstorms with strong winds that cause structural damage, but the tornadoes always go southeast of Memphis towards North Mississippi and miss us fortunately.

I am sayin all this because I was watchin a soap today, OLTL and they had a tornado to hit the church while a wedding was goin on. Yeah, they knew there was a tornado warning out but you know....it's tv, LOL.

Anyway, say Memphis' day has come and a F4 or 5 tornado touches down in southwest Memphis and goes east and sadly destroys Graceland. How would the world treat this, with Graceland no longer existing? Everything that was Elvis would be destroyed. Where would all the die hard fans go durin Elvis Week? There wouldn't be any home to see or anything left. So how would they react?

PS. Please don't think I am suggesting or hoping for one to hit. I would cry like hell if that ever happened because of the popularity of that home and what it stands for, which is rags to riches and the American dream. I was just wonderin about this if it ever happened. And it is a very possibility that we need to think about.

Any comments?

Something tells me the loss of life in the area would be more tragic than the loss of any structure - even Graceland.

I think EPE would rebuild it. With the millions it makes in a year, it would certainly make fiscal sense.

With Graceland being a national landmark, doesn't that mean it get some protection or priority when nature strikes?

It would be a real shock for the Elvis community. It's the last physical thing that connects us with Elvis, to get a glimpse of his life. I can't imagine an world without Graceland. It's really the one thing that connects all Elvisfans throughout the world.

Weel said Albert, it is the only physical thing we have left to Elvis, life would be miserable without Graceland :(

If the mansion doesn't survive such tornado it problably will be rebuild. There's more then enough photo and other material they can use for rebuilding/restoring the original damaged stuff. The house itself indeed connects millions of fans around the world and it would be stupid if they wouldn't rebuild it. If EPE looks at such situation from a commercial point they certainly would be stupid if they don't rebuild it. I think that EPE makes a lot of money with everything thats connected to Graceland and the mansion itself so it will problably be rebuild.
So, I don't think that us fans have to worry that someday Graceland will be gone by a natural course:)

Some good points. However only the die hard fans would go see a new structered home that has no connection to EP just because it's where the original once stood. The general public wouldn't care to even see a new Gracleand. The only reason they go there now is because it was EP's home and where he lived.
