Ok, I was on YouTube.com watching some Elvis vids and I came across this tribute video to him and the song "Black Velvet" was playing along with it. And then it hit me, "Black Velvet" Is about Elvis! Heres the Lyrics:

Mississippi in the middle of a dry spell
Jimmy Rogers on the victrola up high
Mama's dancing with baby on her shoulder
The Sun is setting like molasses in the sky.
The boy could sing, knew how to move, everything.
Always wanting more, he'd leave you longing for.

CHORUS:

Black velvet and that little boy smile
Black velvet with that slow southern style
A new religion that'll bring you to your knees
Black velvet if you please.

Up in Memphis the music's like a heat wave
White lightning, bound to drive you wild.
Mama's baby's in the heart of every school girl
"Love me tender" leaves 'em cryin' in the aisle
The way he moved, it was a sin, so sweet and true.

Always wanting more, he'd leave you longing for.

CHORUS:

Black velvet and that little boy smile
Black velvet with that slow southern style
A new religion that'll bring you to your knees
Black velvet if you please.

Every word of every song that he sang was for you.
In a flash he was gone, it happened so soon,

What could you do?

CHORUS:

Black velvet and that little boy smile
Black velvet with that slow southern style
A new religion that'll bring you to your knees
Black velvet if you please.
Black velvet and that little boy smile
Black velvet with that slow southern style
A new religion that'll bring you to your knees
Black velvet if you please.

...If you please
If you please

Then I did some research on the lyrics of the song on this forum and some said that the song was about Elvis and some disagreed. So What do y'all think? Is it or isn't it about Elvis?

Oh yes, an absolute classic soft-metal number from Alannah Myles in 1990...I always thought that this was the Best-ever Elvis Tribute song!

Yes, it's definately about Elvis!

The fact that it mentions "Love Me Tender" pretty much settles it, I think.

This is waht Alannah Myles said her self:
"On the tenth anniversary of Elvis Presley's passing,, Christopher Ward, the writer of "Black Velvet", was assigned by Canada's Much Music Television to produce a special while traveling on a bus with Elvis fans to Memphis for the vigil at his gravesite.
After both being inspired by their love of Elvis as well as his own, he was moved by the south to pen this extraordinary tale of intrigue and mystery to describe the love Elvis felt for soul music, the forgotten forefathers of black crooners who left the mark of their blues on the world, particularly the Mississippi and all American country folk.
What he came home with was a rivetingly sexy shuffle groove, which inspired me to sing in a soulful style for which, until then, I had only experimented. I had no knowledge then of Blues, Jazz or Elvis. I read the song?s lyric like a script and did my best to sing it with as much passion as I could muster.
While working on the song, my producer, David Tyson co-wrote the bridge, which has been likened to Bobby Gentry?s ?Ode to Billy Joe?. We all knew that the song had special vibes. It gave us ?good creeps? not ?bad creeps?. We never realized it was a song that would clearly create a statement in the nineties to commemorate the blues and one of its first white male legacies."
