Hey (y)

Now, i have heard the gospel song"He is my everything" from the album "He touched me."I think it was a great song, but I'am very surprised because it's the same song "There goes my everything, but different text. Can somebody tell me who has made the new text to this song? Thanks :notworthy

There Goes My Everything was recorded in summer 1970, He Is My Everything in summer 1971. Both songs are credited to Dallas Frazier.

As far as I know Dallas Frazier simply wrote two sets of lyrics - one a love song, the other a gospel. This is really very easy to do. Many love songs can become good gospel with just a few changes. Think your way through "The Wonder Of You" and you'll see what I mean. Others like "I Know" and "You Light Up My Life" have been deliberately ambiguous, being able to fit into either situation.

Wow, can you believe that I never knew that there were two versions of that song? I never liked it, so I skipped both versions without knowing the difference :D

Thanks for the information (and question)

The same thing happened with "I Got a Woman" which is originally a Gospel song.

Really? I never knew that... when did it change then? What were the original lyrics?

Most of the hits that was written by Ray Charles was originally gospel songs. I think one of them was a slave song and he made it to a hit with his changed lyrics. Here is another one that he changed lyrics but it wasn't written by Ray Charles but by George Harrison and he got sued over this:

Ronald Mack wrote the song He's So Fine which was cover by the Chiffons. Some of the lyrics went...."He's So Fine, wish he was Mine...". This was one of George Harrison's favorite song so he change the lyrics and made it to a gospel song......."My Sweet Lord, Oh My Lord...". They use the same chords and everything.
Of course you got Elvis' sung That's All Right Mama and My Baby Left Me which was written by the same person and they too they have same chords.

Here is the complete lyrics for He's So Fine:

Doo-lang doo-lang doo-lang
Doo-lang doo-lang)

He's so fine (doo-lang doo-lang doo-lang)
Wish he were mine (doo-lang doo-lang doo-lang doo-lang)
That handsome boy over there (doo-lang doo-lang doo-lang)
The one with the wavy hair (doo-lang doo-lang doo-lang)

I don't know how I'm gonna do it (doo-lang doo-lang doo-lang)
But I'm gonna make him mine, (doo-lang doo-lang doo-lang)
Be the envy of all the girls (doo-lang doo-lang doo-lang)
It's just a matter of time (doo-lang doo-lang doo-lang)

He's a soft-spoken guy, (doo-lang doo-lang doo-lang)
Also seems kind of shy (doo-lang doo-lang doo-lang)
Makes me wonder if I (doo-lang doo-lang doo-lang)
Should even give him a try (doo-lang doo-lang doo-lang)

But then again, he can't shy (doo-lang doo-lang doo-lang)
He can't shy away forever (doo-lang doo-lang doo-lang)
And I'm gonna make him mine (doo-lang doo-lang doo-lang)
If it takes me forever (doo-lang doo-lang doo-lang)

He's so fine (oh yeah)
Gotta be mine (oh yeah)
Sooner or later (oh yeah)
I hope it's not later (oh yeah)
We've got to get together (oh yeah)
The sooner, the better (oh yeah)
I just can't wait
I just can't wait
To be held in his arms

If I were a queen (doo-lang doo-lang doo-lang)
And he asked me to leave my throne, (doo-lang doo-lang doo-lang)
I'd do anything that he asked, (doo-lang doo-lang doo-lang)
Anything to make him my own (doo-lang doo-lang doo-lang)

For he's so fine (so fine)
So fine (so fine)
So fine (so fine)
So fine (so fine)
So fine (so fine)
Oh yeah (so fine)
So fine (so fine)
(fade out)

Now Here's George Harrison's My Sweet Lord:

My sweet lord
Hm, my lord
Hm, my lord

I really want to see you
Really want to be with you
Really want to see you lord
But it takes so long, my lord

My sweet lord
Hm, my lord
Hm, my lord

I really want to know you
Really want to go with you
Really want to show you lord
That it won't take long, my lord (hallelujah)

My sweet lord (hallelujah)
Hm, my lord (hallelujah)
My sweet lord (hallelujah)

I really want to see you
Really want to see you
Really want to see you, lord
Really want to see you, lord
But it takes so long, my lord (hallelujah)

My sweet lord (hallelujah)
Hm, my lord (hallelujah)
My, my, my lord (hallelujah)

I really want to know you (hallelujah)
Really want to go with you (hallelujah)
Really want to show you lord (aaah)
That it won't take long, my lord (hallelujah)

Hmm (hallelujah)
My sweet lord (hallelujah)
My, my, lord (hallelujah)

Hm, my lord (hare krishna)
My, my, my lord (hare krishna)
Oh hm, my sweet lord (krishna, krishna)
Oh-uuh-uh (hare hare)

Now, I really want to see you (hare rama)
Really want to be with you (hare rama)
Really want to see you lord (aaah)
But it takes so long, my lord (hallelujah)

Hm, my lord (hallelujah)
My, my, my lord (hare krishna)
My sweet lord (hare krishna)
My sweet lord (krishna krishna)
My lord (hare hare)
Hm, hm (Gurur Brahma)
Hm, hm (Gurur Vishnu)
Hm, hm (Gurur Devo)
Hm, hm (Maheshwara)
My sweet lord (Gurur Sakshaat)
My sweet lord (Parabrahma)
My, my, my lord (Tasmayi Shree)
My, my, my, my lord (Guruve Namah)
My sweet lord (Hare Rama)

[fade:]

(hare krishna)
My sweet lord (hare krishna)
My sweet lord (krishna krishna)
My lord (hare hare)

Ray Charles recorded this number as "I've Got A Woman." According to Renald Richard, Charles's bandleader at the time, they wrote the number after hearing and singing along to a gospel number, whilst driving to Nashville from a gig in South Bend, Indiana. Charles liked the tune and asked Richard if he could do something with it; the next morning, "I've Got A Woman" was written. The original gospel song was probably an Alex Brown hymn that began, "I've got a saviour, way over Jordan, He's saved my soul, oh yeah..." In 1951 the "Bailey Gospel Singers" recorded a version as "I've Got A Savior (Across Town)."

Wow, that's really interesting. Thanks for telling!

Elvislennon2004, thanks for the lyrics and information too!

Mmm, that's up for debate. There was a major lawsuit around that and the writer of "He's So Fine" was awared a settlement. I hear a similarity between the two songs, but I don't think it was as intentional as you make it sound. A lot of songs have similar chords and tunes. Chuck Berry sued the Beach Boys for copying "Sweet Little Sixteen" for "Surfin' USA", and also accused Lennon/McCartney of coping one of his songs for "Come Together".

Hey Ya'all,

Jack Greene recorded "There Goes My Everything" and had the big hit with it. As far as I know he started doing "He Is My Everything" because of his giving his life to Christ. To this day he still does the last chorus of the latter song even when he's performing the big hit he had. Elvis probably heard it from Jack Greene.

My lord (hare hare) Unfortunatley Harrison did not get permission to use the music and was sued for doing so . He never admitted to consciously changing anything- he wrote the song and then was sued by the publisher of Hes So Fine. Finally he had to pay so much in royalties to them. It drug on in the courts for years.

On the story of Come Together. Chuck didn't sue Lennon and McCartney, he just sued Lennon. The agreement went not only did he had to pay the money he had to record old hits like Stand By Me, Sweet Little Sixteen, and a few others. But Lennon got back at them. The other company was going to release Lennon singing these songs which Lennon rushed his album Rock and Roll and when that album came out Lennon sue them right back for the same amount of money that he lost. The company put a bootleg record out which is a hard one to find, that album is Roots. ABout George he even said himself that he love that song and wrote My Sweet Lord along with the chords.

did elvis ever meet ray charles ?

Yes, he did and afterwards Ray was over heard saying he didn't like Elvis. They met in 1974/1975 sometime in there.
