He was a precious gift of God we cherised him and loved him dearly,.He had a God-given tallent that he shared with the world.and without a doubt he became.most widley acclaimed,capturing the hearts of young and old alike.He was admired not only as a entertainer.But as a great humanitarian that he was:for his generosity.and his kind feelings for his fellow man.He Revoultionized the field of music and recived its highest awards .He became a living legend In his own time.Earning the respect and love of millions .God saw that he neeed some rest and called him home to be with him.we miss you .Son and Daddy.I thank god that he gave us you as our son :sad:

We see Elvis as a picture..A memory..A movie...But Vernon was his father..He was around him. I think we never will know how close they where. I can imagine that they sat down in the living room just talking..We'll never know..

Seeing how much Elvis meant to us, the fans, just imagine the loss for his dad. Amazing. I really have respect for Vernon for always being there for Elvis. Touring with him, being in Hollywood, taking care of business.... great.

I, for one, thank you for your substantive contribution to this thread.

Janelle McComb did indeed "author" the words on EP's grave marker, at Vernon's request.

She also penned a 1976 final Christmas Gift Poem to Vernon (from Elvis) entitled, "DAD." It turned out to be quite a prophetic offering since E died the following year (& that was his last Christmas). Very moving, touching words, .......... signed at the bottom, simply, .................... "Your Son, Elvis."

Piece was in private hands, but may (not sure) have been re-acquired by Graceland (Graceland also discusses on their official site).

According to Marty Lacker, .................... Elvis would run the other way and try to avoid Janelle when she came around ........... and she was more a friend of Vernon's that EP's.

Yeah, .......... you also got to feel kind of sorry for EP for having to do that kind of thing in his own home.

He had the entire 2nd floor area right at the top of the stairs enclosed & even added one-way viewing mirrors so that he could peek down the staircase to see who was hanging around; he also used the doorway at the middle of the stairs to come & go from Graceland out the back & by-pass the front area of the house all together so as to avoid any unwelcome guests.

On many levels, ........ EP was simply just too nice of a guy for his own good.

This brings tears to my eyes everytime I read it. I think Elvis and his daddy were awful close. I love it when Elvis introduces him on the CBS special, I know he did this on many occasions :D
