Is there a specific song or a specific moment in an EP song that sends a shiver up and down your spine? Here are a few of my choices....
"Danny Boy" from Tuscon '76.
"My Way" from the Alternate Aloha
"Always On My Mind" - the final line EP sings
"There's Always Me"
"Kentucky Rain"
"Moody Blue" from The Jungle Room FTD (not the "Italian" version!)
"It's Easy For You" and "She Thinks I Still Care" from Moody Blue LP
These are just a few. Funny how a particular lyric in a song, or the way Elvis sings it can cause that chilling effect.
You'll Never Walk Alone is one which gives me shivers and so does Unchained Melody when you watch the video of C.Hodge holding his mike and Elvis looks up for a second at Charlie and smiles it always brings a lump to my throat.

1977 live version of How Great Thou Art from the box-set Peace In The Valley (I'm guessing it's from Elvis in Concert, but I'm not sure) always gives me the chills. And sometimes makes me ball... LOL When you think about the pain, physically and emotionally, he must have been while singing this just months away from dying. It's more than you can take!! My mom who's not a big fan of Elvis, but doesn't complain about me liking him, refuses to listen to this song after I told her the story behind it. Even she get's emotional over it.
Also, like said before It's Easy For You from the Jungle Room sessions. It's just too much!! :'( Also, the first time I heard Love Me, Love The Life I Lead, while in a radiomentary and in context of Elvis' and Priscilla's divorce. Chills!!
Great thread by the way!!

Live performances of songs such as American Trilogy, What Now My Love, America The Beautiful, Hurt, and Unchained Melody tend to have that effect on me.
But songs of the less bombastic variety can do the same...yes, even some movie songs!
Today, Tomorrow, and Forever (duet)
The Twelfth of Never
The Girl I Never Loved
So Close, Yet So Far
Almost In Love
Love Me Tonight
You Don't Know Me
For Ol' Times Sake
Sweet Angeline
Lots of great choices already named here in this thread. Love Me, Love The Life I Lead--yes! That track was not ready for release but it came out anyway. Yes, Elvis' vocal seems a little strained in certain points, but it works for the song. That song makes me think of Padre, another which fits the bill here.
So many gospel songs...a number of them from the He Touched Me album, but I'll name one here that is maybe less predictable of me: If We Never Meet Again.
And that one called to mind I'm Leavin'.
Many of the Jungle Room recordings would have to make my list. To name a few: She Thinks I Still Care, The Last Farewell, Never Again, and Love Coming Down.
All for now. :)

Yes that's what does it for me!! :D
Also, forgot to mention Is It So Strange. Ever since I read Twillight Of Memory by June Juanico this song is something special "You say I'm from a strange world - but is it so strange, to be in love with you? /../ And take me from this strange world - that I'm living in" :'(

For ol' time sake (very hard to keep your eyes dry when this song plays)
Unchained melody (from the great performances)

There are quite a few that make me shiver...
Hurt
Unchained Melody (especially watching the 77 cbs special- that also makes me cry. I also love elvis playing the piano )
My Way (especially 77)
We Can Make the Morning (such a good song and so under-rated)
If I Can Dream
American Trilogy
The Lord's Prayer (when he reaches that top note)
It's Midnight
and I'm sure I've missed out some... :hmm:

yes, I abosolutely agree. Especially take one from the silver box set. All the Don Robertson songs are wonderful. He's my favorite Elvis writer.

i also agree- i love this song. it's so melancholy and elvis' voice is truly beautiful. whenever i try and put this on as background music i end up just listening to it intensely- it is just so moody and wonderful.

There are quite a number of records that give me that feeling some already mentioned.... I like Alaways on my mind, especially there version from the On Tour Rehearsals were you can hear Elvis say "This time lord you gave me a mountain" before starting the song.
I love the alternate Suspicious Minds without all the overdubbing, you can really hear the vocals very clearly and this shows you just how fantastic Elvis' vocals were (Overdubbing Sucks!)

I would say..SOLITAIRE is one of them..but a very touching ``riff`` is in the song ``Sweet Angeline`` when he goes on ``I`m only human......there`s no use to crying``...it make us realize that in fact he was only human..
have a nice day, bogarcon

Its Easy For You - the most personal song i think he ever recorded.
Always On My Mind - the video where you see footage of him with Cilla really gets to me.
Unchained Melody- when he looks up and smiles while Charlie Hodge is holding the mic.
American Trilogy - The big build up after the flute solo, then E hits the big ending.
How Great Thou Art - no explanation needed.

Goodtime Charlie's Got The Blues.
Oh yes, good choice, from where is the live recording of him adding "Play around you'll lose your wife - I allready did that - You play it too long you'll lose your life - I almost did that"? Too true!! :'(

August 19, 1974, opening night in Las Vegas is when he sang it that way. Though it wouldn't have meant much to the crowd back then, hearing it now, knowing what we know--not only that he would be gone in 3 years but that he had indeed experienced some close calls before that moment in time--certainly does make it very poignant. It's a brief but almost shockingly honest revelation, but one that was delivered with a chuckle.
That's the only night he sung Goodtime Charlie live, by the way.

the end of 'what now my love' from the Aloha shows always gives me a big chill, all over. i have tried to hit, and i have got it, but Elvis's is so powerful and emotional you'd think he was really gonna dies as the word say 'only my laaaa, AAAAAAAAAAAST! GOOOOOODBYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYE!! i'm listening to it now, and there goes those chills!
also the studio versions of
bridge over troubled water
tomorrow never comes (though he never did this live)
just pretend
Elvis just sang it with so much passion you'd think the atmosphere and his feelings would just explode. he was an amazing communicator of that
The song that gives me the most shivers is: Life. It is sung so pationated!
And than there are:
If I can dream.
The twelfth of never.
Help me.
Luide me, guide me.
Old shep.
Memories.
This is the story.
Mama liked the roses.
Miracle of a rosery.
What now my love.
An evening prayer etc.
Be safe and take care,

It's a really difficult question! :hmm: Elvis always "sends a shiver up and down my spine"...sometimes I laugh :lmfao: ...sometimes I cry :'( . Anyway, some of my favourites are "How Great Thou Art" in the cd "Live in Dallas '75", "My Way" and "An American Trilogy"in the "Aloha From Hawaii", "Solitaire", "Baby What You Want Me To Do" in "Memories The '68 Comeback Special" and many many others.
