Remember the velvet portraits that were big sellers shortly after Elvis` death? A Mexican company, ``Juarez Exports`` has raised velvet paintings to tje level of big business, shipping thousands of portraits to the USA and Canada each month.
``Our biggest sellers are Christ & Elvis. When Elvis died, we sold 50,000 of him in one year``, a company official reports.

Speaking of foreign countries, it is interesting to note that many of the foreign visitors who flocked to Memphis this past August, do not speak English. However, sit with any of them as they view an Elvis film and they will sing fluently in English any song Elvis happens to be singing at the moment.

Are aware that there are ``no street signs`` on Elvis Presley Blvd ? That`s right, none! Memphis City Officials refuse to replace them anymore as Elvis` fans keep stealing them as they are erected.

The Elvis Presley Museum, operated by Jimmy Velvet on Elvis Presley Blvd, is scheduled to close soon. Owner Jimmy Velvet recently told us that with the opening of Graceland, it is too much of a hassle to keep his museum open. ``I`ve a new one (museum) opening in Nashville and another in Hawaii, `` said Velvet. ``Between these and our traveling museum which I take on the road, I`ll be pretty busy anyway.``

George Klein and Jerry Schilling, two former close friends of Elvis Presley have recently filed a $40 million lawsuit in Memphis againts Albert Goldman, McGraw Hill and People Magazine.
The suit was filed by attorney John Michael Bailey. In it, Schilling and his company (a management firm that handles recording artists) are seeking $20 million againts Goldman & People, $15 million againts Goldman and McGraw Hill. Klein seeks $5 million againts Goldman and People magazine. In the suit, Schilling and Klein call Goldman`s book about the late rock singer ``a filhy review of the life and death of Elvis Presley,`` and accuse Goldman of being ``a literary vulture picking clean the bones of a defenseless dead man.``

Tom Parker, who managed the career of Elvis presley, could be in for more trouble. Parker recently claimed he can`t be sued by the late singer`s estate because he isn`t a U.S. citizen. He was born Andreas Cornelius van Kuijk in the Netherlands and never took citizenship in the United States. The New york show business weekly, Variety, says it has learned from legal authorities in Memphis ``deportation procedings may be filed againts Parker as a result of his non-citizenship.``

Jerry Schilling and Myrna Smith (Sweet Inspirations) were recently married. Joe Esposito was proud to give the bride, a former member of the Sweet Inspirations, away. Congratulations to Jerry and Myrna.

Remember the song ``DOMINIQUE`` from the film ``Stay Away Joe``? Well, it seems a second version was also recorded by Elvis. The title; ``Dominated``. Felton jarvis, who passed away last year, said he hoped this version was never released. ``Elvis never wanted that song released. Promise me, if I die, that it never will be.``

According to those in charge of the current wave of Presleymania,1982 is to be the year of Elvis. No doubt about it, with the opening of Graceland, they have a good start. In the making is also an Elvis Presley cartoon strip which at present is shrouded in secrecy. No word yet when the strip will make its debut.

It had to happen sooner or later. A mOrris Chapel, Tenn. woman recently filed a $100,000 damage suit againts the estate of Elvis Presley for injuries she said she receives when she fell on some stairs while touring Graceland. It happened on June 17th and the suit contends that the stairway was unsafe because it was surrounded by mirrors.

On June 9th, 1982, CROWN ELECTRIC COMPANY of Memphis filed for bankruptcy. As you well remember, Elvis was working for this company when he first visited Sun Studios to record his first record for his mother.

The bronze statue of Elvis presley, located on Beale Street in Memphis is showing signs of great abuse. Dents from B-B guns and rocks are evident and some of the fringe from the clothing has been riped off.

A new LP recently made its debut in Memphis. In August, no less. ``ELVIS-MEMORIES OF CHRISTMAS``. Enclosed with the package is a 1982/83 mini wall calendar. Speaking of new releases. Here`s one that will make all of you sit up and take notice. Joan Deary, RCA`s representative who handles everything concerning Elvis, showed up in Tupelo, Miss this August with a special gift for all who visited Elvis` birhtplace. The gift, a 45 rpm record, a limited edition of only 7,500 copies features ``The Impossible Dream/An American Trilogy``. On the record label are the words: ``In commemoration, Tupelo, Mississippi-August 16, 1982``. As Joan signed a copy for me, I asked her about this record. As it has ``Not For Sale`` stamped on the label. I wondered if this was a promotional record for a future release?``NO`` said Joan. ``This record is only for those who love Elvis Presley and are willing to travel to Tupelo this week. Only 7,500 copies were pressed and when they gone, there will be no more``.
