Hi everyone,
I am fairly new to the great world of Elvis Presley. I first bought 30 #1's and Second to None and was hooked. Recently I have purchased Suspicious Minds-The Memphis Anthology, Aloha From Hawaii with bonus tracks, An Afternoon In The Garden, and Elvis-The NBC TV Special. I was wondering if you guys had some suggestions on what I should purchase next. I am looking now to buy either single CD's or Double ones as I am not quite ready to buy a big box set. I really like Aloha and Garden. Is there any other live CD's that are really good? Sorry for the long post, and thanks in advance for responding.

Hi Maccafan,
welcome to Elvis Land, you already have some fine stuff already!!! You couldn't go wrong with one of the Sun collection Cd's, there are a few of them about and it's what started everything off for him, and my paritcular favourites at the moment:That's The Way it Is either the single cd or the 3 cd box set and of course don't forget the DVD's of the 68 special, Aloha and That's The Way It Is (Special Edition), that should keep you going for a while!!!

Hi! If you wanna hear some really good concert recordings, visit www.jordans-elvis-world.com (http://www.jordans-elvis-world.com), go to the Elvis Library section, and there you'll find great stuff which will blow you away! Or go to www.elviscrawler.com (http://www.elviscrawler.com) and Elvis Info section, where there are CD-s and CD-Rs of loads of live recordings. You have to register first I guess. On the Jordans site under the links section there is a site called Kieth Flynn's site where there are also lots of videos and audios. Go enjoy!

Hi,

I recommend that you purchase the updated "Live On Stage In Memphis" Concert on the Follow That Dream label - it's a blast!

Also, I think you're in need of some of Elvis' early albums like "Elvis Presley", "Elvis" (otherwise known as 'Rock 'n' Roll No.2'), "Loving You", "King Creole", and the 2-CD set "Sunrise" which is an anthology of Elvis' Sun Recordings plus some great alternate and live rarities from the time - enjoy!

Elvis In Person at the International is a great cd of Elvis' first live engagement in 1969 after several years away from live performance. Great selection of songs. Elvis is in top form vocally and his band can't be beat. A nice follow-up to that is On Stage February 1970, which captures some of the songs Elvis performed during his 2nd Vegas engagement. Great selection of songs not previously associated with Elvis, all very well done.

You can't go wrong with either of these two, they belong in everyone's collection. These are pretty common cd's, so you shouldn't have any trouble locating them at a local cd shop for a reasonable price.

If you go for the ON STAGE cd, be sure to buy the upgraded version, this upgraded version is remastered and has x-tra songs on it. I think you should buy the upgraded versions only.
My list for you:

RCA Releases:

Moody Blue
I'm 10.000 years old - elvis country
Elvis in Concert
From Elvis In Memphis
Christmas Peace (dsd remastered)
Elvis/Elvis Presley (dsd remastered double pack)
Elvis That's the way it is (3 cd)
Close Up (4 cd-boxset) great sound on this set!
Elvis Platinum (4 cd-boxset- The best boxset ever!!)
Elvis Collectors Gold ( RCA first 3 cd boxset with lots of alternates on it)
Elvis Memories ('68 comeback)
Elvis '68 comeback special (DVD-deluxe set)
Aloha from hawaii (DVD-deluxe set)

FTD releases (collectors label by RCA):

Elvis On Tour - the rehearsals
Elvis is back!
As recorded live on stage in Memphis
Viva Las Vegas
The Jungleroom Sessions
6868 Sunset
Summer festival (1972 soundboard)
Dixieland Rocks (awesome sound on this soundboard)
Spring Tours (live 4track recording from 1977)
Memphis Sessions (the best release by FTD)

Bootleg Albums:

Opening Night '69 (fort baxter label)
Opening Night '74 (fort baxter label)
From Sunset Boulevard vol. 1&2 (fort baxter label) TTWII rehearsals
Coming On Strong (live 1977)
Elvis On Tour (flashback Label) On Tour soundtrack recording

These cd's are one of the best around and a good way to start your Elvis Collection. And if you want to go for the original albums you should try the paper-sleeves releases from japan, the price for each cd is around the 24 euros each, but worth every euro, the sound is awesome on this discs, much better than the Elvis in the 90's series.
Hope this helped.

Hi and welcome to the wonderful world of the presley-manics! I would suggest the following cds as essential:

01) Sunrise: A real nice double disc with the first recordings of the king!
02) Burning Love: A compilation of Elvis' 1972 recordings (live and studio)
03) Tomorrow Is A Long Time: Elvis' search for himself in the midsixties
04) One Night In Vegas: Opening show of the "Elvis Summer Festival 1970"
05) Dixiland Rocks: Tour performance from 1975

The last two cds are released through "Follow That Dream Records" and are available on amazon.com.

For your dvd collection I would suggest:

01) The 1968 Comeback (tripple dvd with the 1968 tv show "Elvis" and several outtakes)
02) Aloha From Hawaii (double dvd with the 1973 tv show incl. some outtakes)
03) Elvis In Concert* (the last tv show of the king, recorded just eight weeks before his death)
04) Elvis '56 (a great documentary about the first year of Elvis as a superstar)
05) That's The Way It Is - SE (special edition of the 1970 documentary about Elvis' third vegas engagement)

* Elvis In Concert isn't released officially, but you can find some import dvds on ebay.

Of the 3 live albums I have- NBC-TV Special, An Afternoon In The Garden, and Aloha From Hawaii, I think Garden is the best. I hate to review them to in depth because I am horrible at those kind of things, lol. But on Garden it seems that he is so full of energy and just having a great time. And the song selection is great, such a wide range of rockers to ballads to folk rock to anything in between. But I don't wan't people to think I am cutting down Aloha or TV Special. It just seems that on Aloha he sounds a little less energetic and a little tired. I like the 68 Special but the sound quality is a little rough. I was planning on picking up Memories- The 68 Special, Live at the International Hotel, and On Stage today but I had arm surgery Friday and today was kind of a rough day pain wise, so hopefully I can pick them up tommorrow before the money runs out lol! I just wanted to thank everyone again for all the helpful responses!
Thanks!

You probalby dont want to go for a box set because of the: "expensive and what if I dont like it?" but Ill recomend to you the "Artist of the Century Box Set" is not that expensive, and is not focused on any era or topic, but is more or less a 4dc set with "Best of Everything", like and extended 30 #1 or second to none, that you seme to have enjoyed, so that would be it. Yea I know, you said no box sets, in that case my inmediate chocies are:

Sunrise Elvis: the perfect pair for the 69 memphis anthology.
Tiger Man: If you liked the NBC sitdown shows this is it.
Elvis 56: Better thatn get Elvis first two albums if you are not a completist, whatever that means.
You like the country sides: Elvis: Best Country Songs.
Get the Love Elvis recent release.
Burning Love is a good one if you like 70's stuff.
Tomorrow is a Long time: Is great if You like the sixties nashville sound.

Thats about compilations, now, if you want to go for the original Elvis albums, get the upgraded versions of thes ones:

Elvis Presley. '56
Elvis. '56
King Creole '58
ELvis is Back '60
Elvis in Memphis 69'. Sweet but since you get the Memphis Antologhy is plain usless for you.
Elvis In Person '69 (why there is not an upgraded version of this one?)
On Stage. '70
ELvis COuntry "Im 10,000 year old". '71
Promised Land. '75

Any way alway an easy way to get all the bounch for all get the 50's, 60's and 70's box sets: King of Rock and roll, Nashville to Memphis, and Walk a Mile in My shoes. Are you guys stupid or what, he said no boxsets hahaha...
