View Full Version : How tall was Elvis?
Hello:)
Does anyone knows how tall Elvis really was?In one interview after he got out of the army he said he was 6"ft.I read in a Magazine that he was 5'11 and in one of his concert he complain about the microphone being so low that he was 6.1 1/2.
Watching a show a long time ago in the TNN net."Nasvhville now"Minnie Pearle had a shirt that belong to Elvis that was rather small. When Ralph Emmery saw he told Minnie that Elvis was not a tall man by the looks of his shirt. She said that he was 5'8.Does anyone knows wich one is right?:!:

I heard he was actually 5'11 but wore lifts in all his shoes to make himself look taller.... also... there is a picture somewhere of a mugshot Elvis had taken while playing around at the police station one time, and it puts him right at about 6'1, (although his hair was quite poofy and could have thrown off an inch or two)

From all accounts he was a shade under 6' tall, 5'11-3/4 " to be exact. This according the MM members.

On many, many pictures (besides the ones where he wears his onstage boots) he looks way smaller than 6 feet. I also prefer to believe that he was taller than something like 5'10'', but looking at shots from Blue Hawaii or Fun in Acapulco (barefoot) he doesn't look 6 feet.
Look for example scenes with Elvis and Joan Blackman on the beach. Elvis should be much taller than Joan if he really was 6'1
His Army weigh in picture clearly shows he was 5' 11 and 3/4 inches tall in without shoes.
Kurt Russell in an interview about his portrayal of Elvis said he and Elvis were the same height, just under 6 feet. I know this picture has been seen by most fans just look closely. Tom Jones is 5'8 and he also wears huge heels on his boots, look at any picture of he and Elvis and Elvis is way taller.

But what about this:

http://www.boxing-memorabilia.com/images/alielvisP.jpg
Muhammad Ali is 6'3''
Elvis looks quite a bit smaller on both pictures

Elvis was 5'11, and he did wear lifts in his shoes so that would put him at about 6'1 in the 70's with his boots on and lifts. But he was 5'11 according to his army records and people that i know that knew him.He always wanted to look taller but to tell you the truth 5'11 is not short anyways. The average height for an american male nowadays would be 5'8 so 5'11 is above average.

I would say that there is about 3 inches difference in there heights. Ali was a heavyweigh who weighed in at about 210 to 225 most his career First picture Elvis looks to be very thin compared to Ali so I would guess hes at about 170-175 hes also slightly in a karate crouch so he looks much smaller. Second pic Elvis looks heavier near 180-190 and is not crouching so he looks closer in height. Also Ali must have on boots or shoes which also have heels. I've been an Elvis fan 40 years and never heard much controversy about his height. Its near 6 foot, and every one pretty much has agreed on that.(one of the few things in his life where agreement seems to be near universal)

He was the man no matter what!!!That's not the issue here. Nobody doubts that Elvis was the man.
5'11'' is about 1m77. I'd settle for that.

Elvis was measured scientifically in the army. The army records say that Elvis was 6' (183 cm) and at the time of his induction the information was precisely 6'0.5'' (184 cm) as if they rounded off 0.5'' in the rest of the army papers. Graceland Archives of EPE and Joe Esposito confirmed it and confirmed too that there is another measurement made in the army that states Elvis' height at 6'1 3/4'' (issue) and that would be his height with army footwear. In the worst of the cases, even if 6' were a rounded up figure, it should arrive from a minimum of 5'11 3/4''+ (182+ cm), because I've consulted U.S. army's method to take heights and they round heights to the nearest quarter of inch. So it's unquestionable that Elvis was somewhere very close to 6', up or down.

I think we always think celebrties are bigger than they realy are.I ve met a couple and always been suprised that they don't look as tall as I thought they would. I'm sure Elvis was about 6' feet tall or there abouts but with his lifts and boots on and his hair combed back I bet he could push 6' feet3" inches.
When I went to Graceland I was suprised by how small Elvis's jumpsuits looked even the sundial suit. They seemed both small in height and girth which makes me think EP was'nt as overweight as people would want you to believe.
One more thing. It realy doesnt matter if he was 6 feet tall or 4 feet 9 inches, the tallent packed into that man amazes me.

The real ones are around 6', all the rest are jokes or statements made by people who have no idea about what they are talking about.

From talking to one of his bodyguards a few years ago, they told me he was about 5'11 and wore lifts in his shoes...plus the heels of his boots. If you watch, Love Me Tender, that was before he discovered lifts. Also in Blue Hawaii on the beach. In Live a Little Love a Little, when he was getting his suit pressed while being interviewed for a job. Then the photos from the hawaii trip in 1977.

Didn't I see in army picture he was 5' 10" with no shoes or anything. Now I know he put lifts on heels of his boots. Which I know makes you look one duh taller but other slimmer too.
Love to all,
I?ve read at several places that Elvis was 181 cm = 6 f. But that he wore inlays in his shoes to appear even taller.
Like it?s just been said, I was also amazed at how small the jumpsuits at Graceland appeared. Everybody are always talking about Elvis being that overweight in the 70s. Well, I think a bit maybe, but not more than the average American man I guess really. At the end he was probably swollen from water as well, due to him not being healthy at all...
The famous black leather suit looked really small! And of course he was very thin then. I heard he weighed only about 70 kg (140 pounds?) for that show.

I know more of his weight was in his face than his body. From water built up. I do know hwen I use to get sinus shots where they put it right in your sinus area on your face. I made my face swell up for about week.
I usually get my replica jumpsuits done about 2 sizes smaller because I know when I put on my boots and how high heel is makes me look slimmer.
Love to all,

Elvis was 5'11 and 3/4 in the army at the age of 23. To say that he was 6' would not be wrong. Without measuring tape it is hard to tell that he is a 1/4 inch under 6'. However Elvis was built very thin and lanky. Towards the end of his life Elvis weighed about 265 lbs. Overweight for a man that is 6' tall yes, but not grossly like everyone makes it sound. I think the part about Elvis near the end of his life that makes us all think he was that much overweight was the fact that he looked like he was sick. I don't blame him for what happened to him, nor do I blame anyone else. He came to this earth did what he was supposed to do and left. We're all just mad because we didn't get to go with him.

I don't fully agree about the him being 6feet. The Colonel had press release story that read he was 6.1'. Then recently Lisa Marie full on lied or was reading her scripted comments on, "By The Presleys" has saying, "there he was, this 6 foot 4 man"...I knew someone who was 6.4' and that man was always taller than anyone in our group.
True, people make Elvis out to be really "fat" but watch the CBS videos. It's mostley around his stomach and face. I suffer from the same problem. I could transform from one to the next. If you hear the recorded conversation Elvis had with Red West, When Elvis tried to work things out to stop the release of the book, Elvis What Happened?, Red being the badass that he is just flat out tells him, "You're fat cause you eat too much!" I really felt bad for Elvis when he said that, cause Red oviously knew he had the upper hand in the conversation. Elvis was an out of normal man but at the sametime, he represented what the typical human being goes through.

I don't remember Lisa Marie saying that Elvis was 6'4'', this statement is about J.D. Sumner, his daughter said it.

Don't worry, all the people make mistakes. It seems that she said 6'2'' and was obviously talking about Elvis' approximate height with footwear.

One of the reasons the black leather looks so small is the cut. The jacket isn't a regular length jacket. It was tailored to finish at the waist, with no tails or anything.

Never heard or read that figure before-where did you get that info? Usually the figures most often mentioned are 5 feet 11 to 6 foot. Never saw 5 feet 10 anywhere.

Uh uh no, he was not 5' 10". We saw him very up close in Tahoe and my father was 5' 9-l/2" and he was definitely taller. My husband is 5' 11-3/4 and Elvis was about right on or slightly taller than him.
