Mytery Train/Tiger Man... one of my all times favourites, Im not only taking about Elvis songs, but among all my favourite rock numbers by anyone...

TTWII is hot, the energy boost version, my second favourite version... but the '69 version on In Person is the definitive for me, more of a hard rocker intead of the TTWII: rockabilly thunder version; In Person beats anything from Led Zepellin first two albums (also from '69, '70) '69 is more raw, dirty, heavy R&B, it burns after the sharo cut...

My third favourite is the '69 version usind electric piano instead of the acoustic piano, it souds crazy, like Mile Davis *****es Brew went phsycobilly.

Number four for me is the original Mystery Train from the SUn sessions and TIger Man from the '68 comback.

Number five is TIger Man form the '75 Hollywood session, very on the groove of Bob Dylans Rolling THunder Review form the same year. In '75 in Memphis Elvis did a pretty dam good performance of Mytery Train/Tiger Man, at his 40 still knew how to rock hard.

Who can give a review of the version of Mystery Train FTD Nashville Marathon CD? Has anyone ever heard the James Burton solo instrumental version of this on his CD "The guitar Sounds of James Burton?"

I loved those versions from 69' and 70', but there is something about the one from the 75' "Today sessions that I really like. It was kind of like a updated version of "Tiger Man" and Elvis sounded like he was having fun with that song!!! He should have done more songs like this at those sessions!!!(y)

Yeah, I really like Mystery Train - Tiger Man. I sing and play the guitar to this tune. :D

I like '69 versions best. These songs were quite certainly about Elvis being the King Of The Jungle. At that time he surely did have that strength. And I like his youthful vigor. :angry:

Though my favourite version of Tiger man is from the '68 Comeback Special. This one is ROUGH! :king:

I really don't dislike any version. It's interesting to compare the earliest versions to the last one from '77 on FTD's Spring Tours. I also like the last version because Elvis was clearly enjoying himself and James Burton from Shreveport Louisiania is great on the l-l-l lead guitar. :notworthy

The rough songs are a bit different from today's Heavy Metal. I find most of the later and 'harder' hard rock (done by other artists) to be too.. aggressive and depressing. There should be more loving kindness!! You can do definitely do rougher songs without being overly depressing - I believe rock 'n roll was a bright sound when it started out in the business.. :clap:

As far as I know, there are not a lot of Tiger Man or Mystery Train versions done by modern artists such as Billy Gilman, so I'll be glad to take the honor and perform them myself someday. :blush:

I think you're right.. The versions from '75 are great! Just like the one from Birmingham '76..

There was also a good version from '73.. Elvis play it rough, talks between the the songs and dedicates it to the hierarchy of the Hotel. Somebody else would need to find the exact date for me, but I think it was Vegas in 1973.

I thought Elvis was trying to save a guy's job there.

Enigmatic sun, the one you're referring to september 3, 1973 closing show in Vegas. he is very aggressive on that version. it rocks, but it somehow disturbs me too

My favorite version has to be the one from TTWII - SPECIAL EDITION!! Elvis absolutely ROCKS on that one!!! :)

My second favorite version is the one from ELVIS IN PERSON AT THE INTERNATIONAL HOTEL. (y)

While there are some performances of MYSTERY TRAIN/TIGER MAN from the later years that are very good, I can't think of another version that reaches the intensity level of either of these 2 performances, in my opinion. :hmm:
