just a couple of questions on this topic,

where did elvis get the idea of throwing scarves out into the audience?

when did he first do this?

if he got the idea off somone else who was it?

If I'm not mistaken, Priscilla bought some scarfs for him. Like you see on candid pictures and at the '69 press conference. At the beginning Elvis kept them, he just wore it as decoration. But when he kneeled down to kiss someone or to shake a hand, people were trying to grab his scarf. And then later on, people were asking if they may have his scarf. Elvis gave many scarfs away. But in 1972 hey gave away expensive scarves. 'Cause that year they were of real silk, so they were not cheap. But after that they weren't silk anymore. And in 1976 the Colonel found a company that maked many scarves for low price. So he gave many scraves away in 1977. Look at the CBS Special, the big pack Charlies has in his hand when they walk the stage and Elvis is give them away.
