They change their stories anytime they want to get money and as for Dee Stanley she is complete scum what on earth did Vernon see in her?

Yes Jo, you're kinda 'spot on'...they started their story-telling around 1979/80 with that book "Elvis - We Love You Tender" which is a contradiction in terms where the title is concerned.

The book, as told to Martin Torgoff (possibly another Steve Dunleavy?), appeared to be written to put the Stanley Brother's 'nutcase' Mother, Dee on the 'Presley Map'. Some of the stuff I've read and heard about her, well...what can we say? I think she would have done a better job than Glenn Close in that 'Dalmations' movie.

And then of course there is the 'runt' of the litter - 'Diddy David' or as he is now known - "The Headhunter"...Jeez, that guy talks a good case - almost hypnotizes you...as Preachers do. The guy is very much a business man but I'm convinced he can't really remember very much about the years between 1972 and 1977, so he just makes it up.

I think oldest brother, Billy has turned out to be the best of the bunch - but please correct me if I'm wrong.

They're a strange 'quartet' are the Stanleys...put them in the same league as the Pritchett Sisters - Donna & Susie (Nash & Earl's Daughters).

I,ve always been sortta curious what Elvis opinion was on the Boys as they got older , the marriage with Dee and Vernon becamed strained. I know that Elvis was supposedly on record with a number of people he did not like Dee. I know the Stanley boys from that book claim that Elvis told them, he considered them his brothers, but did he? Does anyone recall reading his take on them in any of the numorous books or interviews out there?

The Stanleys were not big players with Elvis.

Elvis' only real family outside Vernon and Lisa is Billy.

David often talks of when he opened the front door at Graceland to John Lennon..............John Lennon never was in Graceland.

It makes one think how the hell do these 'Presley Phoneys' have the audacity to attend these coventions and shows and get up there and spin such fabricated yarns. Although, in saying that, they've been doing this for years and so they are all now seasoned pro's - There's No People Like Show People!

I wonder what 'Macca' or Ringo would say if they heard the 'Headhunter' come away with such nonsense?!

Truth is, some people believe everything they hear and everything they read. They don't think for themselves. If they are told Lennon visited Graceland and Elvis met the Beatles they agree. They don't stop and think that it wasn't in Graceland that the meeting happened.

Stanley manipulates it. As someone was saying ealrier, it is suprising he could remember anything from the 70's!

It's pretty sad isn't it when people like these have no great qualities in and of themselves to make them famous - they can only piggyback on Elvis' popularity. Sad too that this miserable situation is probably only because Dee was good in bed for old Vernon. Sorry to be crude, but that's probably the case.

youre exactly right Dannyboy......that Vernon was a horndog....I think he also got a thrill from "taking Dee away" from her "alcohol challenged" Sgt in the Army, .....she put those boys in a foster home for a while.... lol while she was breakin ol Vernon in....quite the scandal back in the day.........those ppl are trash...I think its sad the way Elvis ' drug use allowed them to worm their way around him in his final yrs.....:mad:

I'm really not looking forward to that Headhunter movie. Such a shame, really -- Ray Charles got Ray, Johnny Cash got Walk the Line, but all Elvis gets is that stupid mini-series from last year and... The Headhunter!?! (n) ...Sigh.

All I can say is I hope that movie never makes it to theaters.

Not sure if this is the truth, but I heard somewhere that the Stanley brothers kind of went out of their way to get Elvis excess pills, over and above what he wanted, to sort of keep him out of the way so they could have free reign. It sickens me if this really did happen. Wasn't it David who bought him that last packet, or two, of meds?

Doesn't ELVIS deserve that honor? That mini-series from last year was horrible...and now the Headhunter, but it's suppose to be about David Stanley's take on his life growing up around Elvis...

Franny , I'd sort of like to see them quit trying. The first one with Kurt Russell while not all that accurate in some points , at least he respected Elvis, since then its went to Don Johnson who was rediculous IMO, and others who got worse on down the line the most recent being the very worst. I shudder to think of what they might come up with next. I think I've seen Hollywoods take on EP enough, that I'm confident now they'll never treat it with respect.

JDD, I agree with you...in that if they aren't willing to put in the time and thought into a high budget Elvis movie, then we do not need to see any more of these disrespectful Elvis movies that are nothing more than jokes...It's too bad really, it would be have been great to see! Thankfully, I haven't seen the Don Johnson one...
