Has anyone seen this yet? I'm in shock!

The Beatles were singled out on Friday as the most influential entertainers of the past 100 years, beating out the likes of Elvis Presley, Charlie Chaplin and Mickey Mouse, according to a survey conducted by show business newspaper Variety.
Behind the Fab Four's first-place finish, were in alphabetical order: jazz pioneer Louis Armstrong, television comedienne Lucille Ball, movie legends Humphrey Bogart, Marlon Brando, Charlie Chaplin, James Dean and Marilyn Monroe, cartoon hero Mickey Mouse and singers Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra.
Variety said the Beatles were named "Icons of the Century" because they were the entertainment personalities who made the biggest impact on the industry and the world in the past 100 years.

Well, i believe when they say THE DAY THE MUSIC DIED, they mean the death of Buddy Holly (the line was also in Don Mcleans?American Pie). Anyway, i find it always hard to see that the Beatles are higher than Elvis on ANY chart. In my opinion the?re just overrated. But,ofcourse, that?s just personal:king:

The thing about these entertainment polls is that people's choices and the results appear to change from month to month and season to season...you ask a different number of people about this 'entertainment' category in a few months time and perhaps EP will be up to number 5 or even number 1.

Nevertheless, these have got to be some of the most 'blinkered' results in this type of poll since John Lennon was voted something like the 'most influential rock 'n' roll figure' over Elvis - LOL...LOL...LOL...aahh, the voting public eye of the minority asked eh?...what can we say?

I don't mean to take anything away from 'The Beatles', it is without doubt that they were the most exciting phenomenon to burst upon the sixties scene and hold their influence over many bands and songwriters to follow - they are without any doubt the most influential rock 'n' roll band in musical history. Thus, it gives them their 'Iconic' status. But, unfortunately they are certainly not all-round entertainers and they appear to have topped a category that they didn't really specialise in.

Strange.

Elvis makes 40 million a year dead, the top earning dead icon, but ranks 10th.
It never ceases to amaze me!(to quote the true number one icon)

IMO, most of the general public like(love ) elvis, these polls have probably been taken by the music press or some other TRENDY PUBLICATION,these people seem to think that liking the king is UNCOOL.these COOL people would have you think that if elvis had died in 1958,he would be forever young and then ,in there minds be COOL,these people are unfortunate,in the fact they have never experienced the kings diverse repertoire of songs:king:

Well the people who run these things are from the Beatles generation most likely. Our local oldies stations program director readilly admitted to me in an e-mail that he was a huge Beatle fan. He has consistently programed about 10 different Beatle songs a day. Every day at 4 they have the Fab 4 at 4 a 4 song block. WHen I requested more Elvis I told him Elvis was the 2nd biggest record seller of the 60s and the biggest of the 50s (according to Billboard)and desreved more than a play here and there. He told me Elvis was not "relevant"to the audience they were shooting for. I told him I was part of that audience and knew others who wanted more Elvis also. He replied our demographics show he is not considered relevant. you can bet his preference for the Beatles has something to do with his programming goals.

Elvis has been named "(The greatest) Icon of the Century" many, MANY, many times. That title belongs to him and nobody else is gonna take it, not even because of this one poll. I guess (know?) Elvis have done so much for music that any other artist. He is important for people... And the fact that Graceland is the 2nd most visited place in EU, after The White House, shows what I mean.
