There's been a long time since you had any brand new Elvis designs from me. But there's one here. OK, it's not completely done yet, but I'm hoping to finish it really soon!!
I had another idea for a design for 50's compilation (that one didn't really involve Photoshop as much as a pair of old jeans) when I came up with this one. I've been playing with it now for a while and feel likeI need to get some feadback. I had somone saying that the font on the fornt gives a spooky feeling, and I agree but I am still not sure if that might not be the feeling I'm going for.
Anyway, the theme of the CD is songs and statements that made parents of America want to lokck up their daughters. I wanted to include clips from Jailhouse Rocks ("Lady I don't know what the hell you're talking about" & "that ain't tactics honey, it's just the beast in me") and from Elvis '56 (I think) quotes from upset parents and preachers. Also the songs where Elvis sounds really raw or where the lyrics are of the kind that Bing Crosby would never have written. "one night of sin is what I'm paying for" "when you wear those dresses sun comes shining through"
What do you guys think of this concept. And what do you think of the design? What could improve it but still keep the essense. DANGER!! ;)
On the inlay I want to add vintage clippings from newspaper articles that discuss Elvis. I was trying to find Elvis '56 to make some screen captures from it, but can't seem to find it. Better luck tomorrow hopefully!!
Suggestions and comments are much welcome. Good and bad.

Hello,
I'm not an expert at this, but it looks great to me. I'm just trying to learn how to use Photo Shop.
Thank you for sharing this. I hope I can learn to do some of these great things.

Thank you for your response Tommy! I am glad you liked it.
Am glad to hear your starting out with Photoshop, maybe we get to see your work here soon. The best way to learn Photoshop (and any software really) is to just play around. Don't worry about ruining anything as long as you save it first!
Good night!!

Hope you don't get tired of hearing it, Linda, but I realy do enjoy your design input on this forum, and this example is no exception.
What a great concept too, especially incorporating the DVD sound clips (though I'm not as sure I'd use the upset preacher type comments), it all appears to be a very cohesive concept and design all round. (y)
I love the front cover from the preview, and the photo choice is superb. The photo on the back looks a little strange to me on the small preview, but may well just be because of the size, something not sitting quite right there for me anyway regarding the back cover photo.
Might I suggest some kind of either chain link fencing as a backdrop or maybe incorporating some kind of barbed wire looking element to further enhance what you allready have ?
Maybe a screenshot just prior to 'That ain't tactics' would have a place somewhere in the design too.
Anyway, I like what your doing here, and I look forward to further developments on this project.
How about the radio dj ? comment 'rock n roll has got to go' leading into 'Trouble' !
Sounds like you can have a lot of fun with this one !
Good job ! (y)

I love it! I've been thinking along the lines of this but just could not put it together. I do agree with spinout...maybe add some barbed wire to it. This is great so far. Do complete it.

Mark, Ron, Deke, Ricardo & Patrick! Thank you for your comments. I am glad you all like it so far. I hope to not dissapoint you with the rest. I am currently working on the inlay and insert. Having some trouble with the cdlabel so I put that on hold for now. But I am having trouble deciding on how the insert should look like!

Mark - "Rock'n'roll has got to go" turning into "Trouble" is a great idea. I will definitly do that!! Unfortunatly that and other similar comments, doesn't seem to be on Elvis '56 when I skipped through it. Was I skipping too fast? Should it be there? Also, when I was talking about the preacher quote, I meant the one where a young priest (?) talks about the evil feelings you feel when you sing r'n'r. That one has always cracked me up!! ;-)
Putting barb wire or some sort of a fence in the background is a good idea. I will see what I can do and how I like it! Also, I tried to make Elvis bigger on the back and now looks a lot better!! Thanks for the suggestion.
Ron - Elvis riding the bike in the background, the thought had crossed my mind too. But when I ended up putting Elvis in the forground I didn't want two Elvises on the same side. But thanks for the suggestions anyway! And you are right, it is a little bit like pop art (my favorite form of art so I might unconciously be somewhat inspired by it).
Have a good one! LINDA

I like the inlay on the left with the 3 pics best. I am sure you will come up with a really good disc design.

Linda I miss talking to you.
I love your cover--you always do unique great work :)
I would have to agree that I like that inlay on the left, too...it shows everyone letting loose and declaring their love for him. And the photos go with the quote.

Linda, I have seen four covers you made, and I must say that I like them all.
They all evince a peculiar and a-typical approach to design which clearly shows that you are very, very gifted.
As for this cover, my favorites are the inlays, which are simply gorgeous.
The only point of criticism is that Bauhaus typo in the tracklist (what font is it? Futura?).

Thank you all for your replies, I am overwhelmed by the response this cover has had so far. I hope to be able to finish it soon, but I am sort of stuck on the CD label (it is a talent i still need to work on, a lot!!)... But I hope to get there soon. I try too look on other labels for inspirations and problem solutions.
I am also stuck in the way that I can't fin my copy of This Is Elvis, too see if I can find a cool parent-quote. If someone allready have something like this as an MP3 I would love it if you could send it too me! :D
Manhattoe - I actually used a font called RomanD. Which I thought at a somehwat modern feeling, but still a little bit underground rock/punk. I think you will like it better when you see it in high resolution!

Great concept, tracklist and layout :notworthy
Personally though, I don't the font used on the front and inlay suits a 50s tracklist. It looks a bit too modern and photoshop-ish. Also: how about trying to use some pink, purple or other pastel-teints?

Ron - LOL That's just the story of my life you decribed there!! Always starting something, never finish anything. I want the things to be prefct and if I never can get it perfect then I won't finish it. But I really do want to finish this whole product - CD, cover and all!!
But I also really want to include MP3s with reactions from adult of that time, but I can't seem to find it digitally anywhere. Not even NON digitally, so I don't know. Also I'm having trouble with the cd label, I do not want to go the easy way on this one, and just use the same picture, as I will use it everywhere else I think it will be to much too. Anyway, I think that part is coming along right now though.
Albert - thank you for your response!! I always appreciate to hear what other people have to say, whether it is good or bad. Now I have to say that the thought of this design was not to give it a 50's feel, as opposed to my R'n'R-cover (http://www.tcb-world.com/showthread.php?t=142). About other paste-lcolors. I was using some when I coloured Elvis clothes e.g. but I didn't look right so I didn't use it. Maybe I need to rethink that!
Thank you all!!

Yo u all!! I just got a job and will be moving to a different city, at least for the weeks for now. So I'll be leaving this computer too and thought I would try and finish this design during the weekend. So if anyone could help me with this quote from the 50's that would be great. I know I read somewhere that a repoert wrote this back then.
"It isn?t enough saying that Elvis respects his parents and don?t smoke or drink, that still doesn?t give him the right to carry on like a sex maniac in public."
That is as I remember it, but it would be great if I could get the correct quote. Anyone that could help me with this?

Hi Linda,
I can't help with the quote, but I wish you luck in your new job. And come back here soon.
