View Full Version : August 27th, 1965 - The 'Giants' Meeting
Yes, it was this day 40 years ago that Elvis and The Beatles first met. The meeting took place at E's home on Perugia Way in Bel Air, California.
Just thought I'd mention that.

Very nice of you to mention that - I find Elvis to be a lot more giant-like than the Beatles though.
It would have been rather interesting if the recordings made at the jam sessions were still there..
Funny remarks were:
Beatles: Elvis, where are the birds, man?
Elvis: Well, I guess they're out in the yard or something...
Beatles: No man, I mean the girls! Where are the girls?
Funny that in the US it is not common to think of women as 'birds'. I'd rather just say 'women'!

Were the Beatles really stoned during that meeting? So where did they get the marihuana from? It's pretty hard to buy in the US. Or was it some other substance? Maybe they just went to Willie Nelson's place before visiting Elvis :P
I guess that Elvis must have felt the surprise of those Beatles coming over to his place. According to my information, the Beatles just looked in amazement at Elvis when he opened the door. Elvis had to say something like 'if you guys are going to stare at me like that, I'd rather go to bed'. That comment really broke the ice and later on they even had a jam session together.
Elvis also played the piano & bass - he really impressed the Beatles.

I think if they did record it, it would of certainly cleared up some of the Elvis Vs The Beatles debate that keeps coming up.
Im not a fan of the beatles.

The Beatles didn't visit Elvis at Graceland but in his home in Bel Air, California.

I'm now reading a book about John Lennon and according to it Lennon afterwards seemed a boit disappointed about the meeting, he considered Elvis' being high... As though they weren't-LOL (though it's said Lennon was quite a big fan of Elvis', especially in his school times..."Two people have made the biggest influence in my life: Elvis and Joko Ono"...
But I guess they just felt quite uncomfortable...Elvis just didn't know how to act, maybe it was a lil bit of professional jealousy from Elvis' side...
