I was wondering if anyone might know what kind of hair products Elvis used in the 50's as well as the 60's and 70's??? I have read this before, but can't remember.

He also used Old Spice talc and Colgate toothpaste - in the 60s at least :) Not sure about the hair products. I've also read it in the past but can't recall.

Here's a related thread: http://www.tcb-world.com/showthread.php?t=4430&highlight=Brut

I would like to know more about what Elvis used on his hair in the various stages of his life.

In the fifties he used Royal Crown Hair Dressing, which was made in Memphis. You can still buy that stuff at drugstores around here. It's really cheap, too.

Somebody (it might have been D.J. or Scotty) told about how back then Elvis would use two different products on his hair--one for the top and another for the sides and back. I think Wildroot might have been one of them.

It appears that in the sixties he mostly got away from the "greasy kids' stuff", favoring a very controlled dry look, which I would guess was accomplished mostly with hairspray.

For the Comeback Special, it looks like he might be wearing Vitalis or a similar hair tonic. It looks shiny and as if it's got some hold, but as soon as he starts moving, it starts falling out of place.

I don't think I've heard before what he used in the seventies. Though at times I'd say it's a safe bet that he was using hairspray, for the most part his hair looks a lot more natural.

Anyone know more about this? (I'm interested, of course, because I just know that if I can use whatever he did, any hairs I have lost up there will immediately sprout back and style themselves into the TTWII look.)

:king:

He dyed his hair with Miss Clairol #51 "Black Velvet" professional dye...I'd assume in the '70s (don't know when the line was on the market).

He definitely let his hair go a lot wilder in the '70s (it's messed up in most concert photos, of course, but even offstage he tended to wear it kind of shaggy and not overly controlled), which was quite a contrast to his near obsession with it being perfect in the '50s.

I believe Larry Geller recently wrote a book about hair, and espacially how he treated Elvis's hair. I'm not sure if it is an interesting read...
