Hi everybody, Im new on this forum, but not a new ELvis fan at all, Im 25 years old, and I been an Elvis fan since I was seven or somthing like that.

So, what I been thinking of is: Other artist songs that you would love to hear on Elvis voice.

Here are some of my thoughts:

"Delta Lady" Elvis actually rehearsed this song for the live album On Stage feb 1970, but he and the band forget about it in the end. Just as he recorded Proud Mary after Creedence recording My baby Left Me the year before, maybe he was thinking on Joe Cocker?s 1969 version of Lawdy Miss CLawdy. Anyway, "Delta Lady" is a great song, and I think it suited Elvis perfectly, it would have great to heard that song on ELvis voice.

Obviously Elvis was into Joe South stuff in the late 60?s, would?t be great to have a cut of "Hush" covered by Elvis, I like this one for the sep 70 sessions.

In 1965 Elvis told in an interview about his favourite brithish band after the Beatles, and his choice was the Rolling Stones, oddly he never covered anything from the pen of Jagger and Richards. I?ve been thinking about this for a long time, and I say "Honky Tonk Woman" is the perfect Stones lick for Elvis. Imagine James Burton guitar playing on that one, Elvis would have pronounced the word Memphis in such a more credible way than Jagger. I like this one for the 73 Stax sessions, remember "Just a Little Bit" is kind in the same groove isn?t it?

Well as usual I think of thousands of songs for Elvis to sing in the shower but now I can?t remember them, but I would really like to hear your choices.

Oh I remember one more: Imagine Elvis singing Led Zeppeling 71 "Rock and Roll". Imagine that song not in Robert Plants squeaky voice, but in Elvis "Whole lotta Shaking GOin on" kind of voice. (I mean the studio version of Whole lotta...) THat would be a must.

Any way, Im waiting for your choices. Have a good one!

Nice thread we've got here. Hm, I'd love to hear Don't Take Your Guns To Town done by Elvis. It's a Johnny Cash song and western/Irish themes fitted Elvis well enough (the song is quite cowboy but the structure is from an Irish folk song).

And if only he could have done complete versions of Roy Orbison's Running Scared and Only The Lonely. Maybe Elvis could have done U2's ' One' as well.

Yea Elvis singing U2 "One" sound cool!, I was thinking just in songs that were contemporaneous to Elvis, but yes, Imagine Elvis at his 70 yeard old doing and album in the Way of Johnny Cash?s "American IV".

About songs from people that Elvis didnt got the chance to know...

Im sure Elvis must liked U2 "One" that?s a good cut.

What about Elvis doing in his on way Beck?s "Devil?s Haircut", "Guess Im Doing Fine", "Lost Cause" or "Side of the Road".

"Country FeedBack" or the obvious "Losing My Religion" form R.E.M.

But Back to Elvis Day?s what about Elvis covering The Rolling Stones country stuff like "Dead Flowers" or "Wild Horses"

What about Elvis doing some James Brown stuff; they knew each other well, an I?ve once read somewhere, that during the early 70's, Elvis wanted so badly to do somthing together with James Brown and his band, but you know, Coronel Parker said: _ _ .

Given that Elvis did cover many Chuck Berry tracks I would have liked Elvis to cover another one :" C'est la vie - You never can tell" : I often listen to the Emmy Lou Harrris version, which has James Burton and other familiar names backing her... she has a much more upbeat version than ole Chuck's ... something like Elvis did to " Promised Land".

I would have liked to hear Elvis sing Rock And Roll All Night by Kiss, done with the same voice he used on Wearin' That Loved On Look.

Half way To Paradise (Billy Fury)
I Just Called To Say I Love You (Stevie Wonder)
If (A Picture Paints A Thousand Words) (Bread)
Angels (Robbie Williams)

Just a few to add to the pot.

I think Elvis would have given Johnny Cash a run for his money if he had lived long enough to a version of Trent Reznor's "Hurt". The lyrics are so haunting.

Ritchie Valens' "We belong together" is so sweet... such a romantic song!!! How would that sound with Elvis' voice?

Hello!

I'm not sure if this has been brought up before, but what are some of the songs (classic or current) that describe how you feel about Elvis? Here are my picks:

"Don't Leave Home" by Dido
"Nothing Fails" by Madonna
"Home" by Zero Seven

Your picks?

Not that he sounds like Elvis, but a couple of Rob Thomas songs are reminescent of "Just Pretend":

"Ever the Same"
"This is how a heart breaks"

just my 2 cents! :)

Here's a few I would love to have heard Elvis do:

From The Lion King Elton John's:
"Can You Feel The Love Tonight"
"Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me"
"Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word"
"Candle In The Wind"
"Circle Of Life"

Debby Boone's:
"You Light Up My Life"

Bellamy Brothers:
"Let Your Love Flow"

The Phantom of The Opera's:
"The Music of The Night"

Nate King Cole's
"When I Fall In Love"

Bee Gees:
"Jive Talkin"

You could just go on and on. Elvis could sing anything! (y)

Russell Watson - Faith of the Heart

Elvis could have blasted through this one with a gospel-like vigour. It would have been excellent.

Perry Como - Wind Beneath My Wings

A lovely sweeping ballad. Just the thing for 70's Elvis. Could have been a show-stopper.

Gary Barlow - Open Road

The lyrics to this perfectly encaspulate the "re-birth" that Elvis could have experienced if he'd combatted his depression and drug addiction.

Robbie Williams - Angels

Amazing lyrics and melody that Elvis would almost certainly have been touched by. I can see him investing much passion in this song.

I really would like to hear the songs "Pretty Woman", "Keep On Running", "She's A Lady", and "Bad Moon Rising" sung by Elvis. And it would be great if Elvis had made a recovered Master from "When My Blue Moon Turns To Gold Again" in 1968... :king:

Something I missed out before...

I would like to commend Tommy on his Lion King recommendations! Elvis could really have delivered here - especially on a song about the epic issue of existence, "Circle of Life". I'm sure it would really have appealed to Elvis! I can imagine his deepened post-mid-60s gospel voice turning in a treat. "From the day we arrived on the planet..." Ah! That warm vibratto. How this man is missed!

The funny thing about "Delta Lady" is that they did not completely forgot about it. For a short while in the late seventies it actually was James Burton's guitar solo during the introductions.

Some cool songs that come to mind that would've fitted Elvis:

Born On The Bayou (John Fogerty) Imagine James' guitar licks on this one...

And almost anything by Tony Joe White, besides "Polk Salad", "I've Got A Thing About You Baby" and "For Ol' Times Sake".

"You're Still Here" by Faith Hill. He'd have to adjust some of the lyrics and the key, but what a great song. Reminds me of something he would've covered.

Bruce Springstein wrote the song "Fire " for Elvis, I think that would have been a good song. Also "Heartache Tonight" the Eagles song. The song "Hero", so many I think he could have been great on.

What's funny is that over the years I have always heard songs that I think he could have done as good if not better and certainly different with his stylistic twist that he did so well.

I think the first song that I can remember thinking he should have done was "Devil Woman" by Cliff Richard.

more;

She's Like the Wind - patrick swayze
more than words - extreme
sailing - christopher cross
copperhead road - steve earle
I could only Imagine - (christian group, can't remember)
Old Man down the Road - John fogerty
the thunder rolls & the dance - garth brooks
in the summertime - mongo jerry
in my daughter's eyes - trisha yearwood ?
tears in heaven - eric clapton
ship of fools - robert plant

I could go on and on.

Spandau Ballet - Through the Barricades

Although allegedly a song about Northern Island, it is more ostensibly, in the words of its own creator, a "Romeo and Juliet" love song. The lyrics are extraordinary, and while Tony Hadley did a fantasic job on the vocals, I'd love to have heard Elvis' soulful cadence on this one.
