Please check out the rare photo of Elvis wearing the Black Jumpsuit with gold collar during the 1970 Summer Festival in Vegas. I found a photo in an old magazine called Kaleidoscope and posted it in the Gallery for 1970. Enjoy it fellows. Keep E no1.

Hmmmm!

I wonder what our resident experts, Jumpsuit Junkie and Leroy (and Captain El), have to say about this!

Hmmmm!

I wonder what our resident experts, Jumpsuit Junkie and Leroy (and Captain El), have to say about this!Well, I don't consider myself an 'expert', however, on the face of it seems a genuine photo from most probably the 26th January - 23rd Feb 1970 Vegas engagement, and if so a pretty exciting little find.

I'd be interested to know what you anticipate the 'experts' conclusions will be. Am I to take it from your comment that you may be a little sceptical regarding the photo ?

Perhaps the original poster could give us a bit more detail of any caption or article that may have accompanied the shot.

I KNEW IT! IknewitIknewitIknewit! All those years I was sure he must have worn it. Anne E. Nixon who attended many Las Vegas performances always stated Elvis wore the `Black Sleek? during the opening night and this was the very first jumpsuit he ever wore on stage. Folks this is a historical picture. Thank you so much for sharing this.

spinout, get off the meds, man.

I was bigging up the thread with some positive banter. There was nothing cynical about my response; at least, nothing that was intended...

I should also hope that Leroy's response confirms my GENUINE enthusiasm.

OK, I just found the photo-credits on page 45 and it says.
"Page 32: February 1970. Elvis stops for a drink of water during a show. His suit is black with red and gold trim and a black beaded macramae belt is tied around his waist. It was a stunning jumpsuit. - Unknown photographer."

Stunning to say the least.

I think I?m entitled to eat a big cake now, ain?t I?!

Elvis always looked great in black. The existence of this suit is also logical: it bridges the gap between the mixture of blue, black and white suits he wore in 69 and the almost complete dominance of white that took over in 1970...

And here's your treat:

There was nothing cynical about my response; at least, nothing that was intended...I enquired if you might be sceptical, regarding the authenticity of the photo, which I suggest was a fair question to ask based on your initial comment, particularly when given the speculation that has surrounded this particular suit for so many years.

I did not imply you were being cynical.

I should also hope that Leroy's response confirms my GENUINE enthusiasm.Leroys endorsement, given his expertise in the Jumpsuit field is, of course, a welcome addition to the discussion, though I'm not sure what part of your first comment it is supposed to have confirmed.

In any event, to prevent this topic going too far off track, I presume we now both know what our positions on the said photo are.............hurrah !

Seems like you never know what you might find in those old magazines !

Fellows, I posted 2 other cool shots of our Man. One shot taken in Miami in 1960, and it shows E wearing his first jumpsuit, probably from the same day as the frontphoto on A LEGENDARY PERFORMER VOLUME 5 (Madison).
The other is a cool pic from the comeback season in Vegas in 1969, not seen too many with the combination of black Herringbone suit and silver conchobelt.
Always wondered where he got this ultra-cool belt, (got one myself, from alltribes.com) and as I watched Elvis By The Presleys I saw a shot from the Stay Away, Joe production, during a break here sits E with this cool belt for the first time I guess. Since it was filmed in Arizona, home of Indian art, it?s more than likely someone presented it to E while on the set. What do you think?

That's two grate pictures again, thanks. Ive seen Elvis using that belt on three other black Herringbone photos. Ive also seen two pictures of Elvis wearing that belt on the white jump suit. (Kenny an Joni posted one each on the old Nightriderforum)

Here i post a close up on the belt in colour. It's a little blurry. But we can see some details.

Here's the one I posted, it's from an 80s German magazine, there was no comment to the picture. Sorry the quality is so bad:

Yes there are probably some collectors sitting on the photos, and they don't want to share.:D

(Wich also could be understandable, as it might be much mony involved)

My experience is there are a lot of fans out there who do not even know what they have. I bet a lot of people are starting a search. I can't stretch it enough; if you have rare pictures of jumpsuits or other pieces of wardrobe you'd probably never seen befor, please come forward and share.

there are so many suits to choose from, but i would have to say the black jumpsuits from 1971/1972, Its one of my favorite colors, an example of a black 1971 suit is on the front cover of the import cd 'Power Of Zhazam' and the black 1972 suit was worn during the hawaii tour in Nov '72, If I remember correctley, there is a photo of this in the book of the 70s boxset...

You are refering to the "Black Matador" (1971) and the "Black Conquistador" (aka "Mexican Tile Suit) (1972).
