Hello!

I have been listening to "Such a Night," and it is a huge departure of Elvis' singing style, and I LOVE it! Are there other songs in the same vein?

Elvis sounds like he is having so much fun on this song. It's no wonder that, no matter who the original artist was, once Elvis sings it, it becomes his song. I think he would have enjoyed a career in live theater--something like Les Miserables. I can imagine him in The Phantom of the Opera...although covering that face would have been a crime!

He would have fit right in with songs in the swing era--Sammy Davis Jr., etc.

Are there any sites that has analyses of Elvis' songs--his interpretations vs. the original...stories behind the song, like in the studio, etc.? It would be even more cool if there are stories in Elvis' own words.

I can only imagine Elvis performing "Such a Night"!

Thanks!

Hi Cutie Pie,

Yes what a classic performance of 'Such A Night' by The King from the "Elvis Is Back" recording sessions....if only he would have performed this more often in his 70's concert repertoire.

Elvis certainly did possess enough versatility to perform any kind of song that he felt he could work at and he certainly proved that many times throughout his career. I feel Elvis does now finally get the recognition he deserves but there are certain aspects of his talent that, to me, are still underrated.

Thank you for the resource, NEA! It really is fun to be discovering all this for the first time--it always makes me sad that Elvis is gone, though. Can you suggest a website that has comprehensive information about Elvis--something besides the usual statistics--that is more on theory, etc?

I share the enthusiasm for this song that you all have, though not as much for the reason some of you ladies have. ;)

I think it is pretty unique, and one of the most underrated kickass songs in the Elvis catalogue, especially considering its being released in a period when he was still a prolific hitmaker.

thanks for the clarification! I like the "sizzle" sound that Elvis makes in the middle of the song...and yep, that ending is something else! Makes me glad I'm a girl! :D

It's a fantastic song and a great production. It has that wall-of-sound feeling. Another simular song is "(Marie's The Name) Of His latest Flame".

Live version (just a quick one):

It is a great song. He could do whatever he wanted to with his voice during this period, it was so awesome!

hmmm...I've never seen a poll for Elvis' sexiest songs! I think "Fever" is right up there! Wasn't that on the same album, originally? I believe I read that it was on "Elvis is Back" or something. Why no one thought to take pictures of the recording session is beyond me!

Hi Cutie Pie,

Yes that's correct 'Such A Night' and 'Fever' are from the same album - "Elvis is Back!"

I just received the knew updated double CD version of "EIB" from FTD and it's absolutely awesome! There are some great out-takes featured including ones of the aforementioned songs. This package has got to be one of the best releases from FTD - ever!

Don't go near the original (i have it on cd the original that is) its an old blues number sung by the guy who wrote...the best version of 'Such A Night' is on the 24c Gold CDD disc, before the song starts there are 3 fauls starts, where E says 'How many did we do, how many did we do before, wait for my hand chief, before you come in on the beat'...
"Came the dawn, and my heart and her love, and the night was gone"
