The single-disc DVDs are being released in order to reach newer audiences for Elvis who aren't likely to buy the deluxe DVD sets and to have '68 and Aloha DVDs carried by retailers that do not carry releases that exceed a certain price point. We are also planning the content in such a way that fans who have the deluxe sets can look forward to the single-disc releases as well. The content for the new '68 and Aloha single disc DVDs will be announced in the months ahead.

So folks, we can now expect the "It hurts me" scenes inserted into the 68 special: what do you think will be included for the Aloha ? my guess is alternate Camera angles .....

No idea.

I can tell you one thing... there's definitely more cut footage than EPE is letting on about. If you watch the Sitdown portions in their entirety, there are several odd jumps between songs.

Sure Cryogenic there is so many little bits cut out, if you have the many VHS tapes of the outakes that is clear : but what was obvious is the omission of the " It hurts me" ....sequence. Some of us commented the ommsion and predicted the re-release just after the 68 special came out...so that is no big surprise.

Now I am wondering what they can include in the " Aloha" to interest us. The Japanese recorded camera angles ?

Perhaps the entire Japanese broadcast?

Also to possibly be included would be that backstage footage from before the show in which EP is wearing the white shirt and pants, stills of which were used in the DVD liner notes (or whatever you call them).

Perhaps not likely, or not in keeping with the usual EPE way, but possible if it means getting more people who already bought the deluxe set to get the new one would be the press conference(s).

At any rate, the text highlighted by jbgude is such a kick in the groin, yet as we often do, we'll say, "Kick us again, EPE! Pain does equal pleasure! We like being abused and belittled!"

Well LBS let us see what price they fix on the re-releases!

jb, I was a bit confused by that before too. Then Sonny informed me:

The quick reply button is the little blue dot, to the right side of the quote button.

Now we know...

Generally speaking:

I honestly don't understand the persistent cacophony regarding slight (very slight) different camera angles, very insignificant omissions (literally seconds in the Aloha introductions from The Rehearsal left in the Deluxe DVD), & the omission of something that has long been available before (It Hurts Me, VHS).

Just to elaborate:

Regarding different camera angles, .... I think both the '68 & Aloha Deluxe editions were done exceptionally well. EPE stated that they chose (in their subjective opinion) the BEST angles that were available from their archives & in some cases gave all that was available (since some scenes were shot using only a single camera feed, with angles selcected as it was actually filmed).

The Aloha introductions oversight was just one small example of their own incompetence (it certainly isn't is a first, either). I noticed this years ago with the VHS release, but EPE's cop-out answer that nobody ever brought it to their attention ....... is just plain pathetic. That said, ........ it really ain't a biggie in the overall scheme of things ....... (the ALOHA DELUXE DVD set is fantastic & I think they delivered overall as they should have). Mistakes happen, nobody's perfect.

As for "It Hurts Me ...", well, ........ I'm kinda on the fence about this one but am leaning towards another incompetent oversight (albeit a big one in this case). Even if it was intentional ----> let's face it, the footage has long been available "Officially" before. It sucks, but considering what they delivered on the '68 Deluxe Set overall ........ I think there is more than ample reason to be satisfied.

--------------------

Some of the more "anal" fans out there will NEVER be satisfied ..... no matter what is ultimately given.

I'm not a fan of EPE, but I cut them some slack on these great Deluxe DVD Sets .......... because, IMO, they are the BEST they have have ever done & I hope to see more future projects along these same lines & concepts (TTWII, OT, EIC, etc.). Definitely a step in the right direction here, for EPE.

They were very high profile releases! "Event DVDs" would not be an inappropriate label. It was reading up on them both across the Internet that made me into the full-blown fan I am today. Hopefully... they had a similar impact on other people.

Deviating quite a bit...

There's something to be said for seeing Elvis' face - not an artist's illustration, not an impersonator's, not even a still picture of the real thing - but ELVIS' face in FULL MOTION VIDEO after so long of NOT seeing it. I think the initial reaction is something to treasure; I'm far too immersed in the Elvis world to ever get that feeling again.

The point Capt. David is that they promised to give everything. Now I can imagine they made a goof up and missed " it hurts me" on the main show...but then how do you explain the many takes ommited from the rehearsals? Same guy slept when reviewing the outtakes so that is how it was missed?

I had mentioned about this practice of giving a preview in Memphis at the peak of the " Elvis season" - after the TTWII-SE fiasco- almost no one would be paying attention to the details - you are just carried away by the atmosphere and excitement. The obvious qualitative improvement in sound and picture and the adrenaline rush of watching a "preview" will not have you noticing the errors if any. You will only get effusive praise.I had asked EPE /Warners, on a couple of message boards at least to arrange private showing to groups of genuine fans - to get feedback: but no real surprise - they did it again and to rub it in they blame us for not noticing !

Was I satisfied with the release - yes :the quality of the picture and the sound was /is outstanding. But the principle is-deliver what you promise- it is almost like you go to buy a car and the dealer, after you conclude the deal does not include the spare tyre telling you " hey ! you had it on your older model so what is the big deal - use that"

There is no point in saying the " it hurts me" was on VHS of what use is it to the average fan who cannot splice it on to his new DVD ? Warners/MGM could as well tell us about " TTWII -SE "-Hey those four songs were on the VHS and older version of the DVD - just play them Bozo and dont bug us."

They have done it and they will keep doing it.period. The repeating of released tracks on the FTD is a classic case in point. No doubt the very many apologists will find reasons to support the practice.

Ok so heres where it ends ......but this (to me atleast) obvious entrapment bugs me no end.

I personally think the omission of "It Hurts Me" and EPE's failure to do anything about it is WAY out of line. Omitting it from the main archived broadcast is one thing but to omit the outtakes from the third disc - even if it was a mistake - is something else; these have NEVER before been seen, and as jbgude says, we were told we were getting everything.

On my PAL Region 2 copy, Elvis also definitely appears stretched. This may, however, be an inherent flaw with the source tapes.

I agree that EPE's attitude / copout on both "oversight" issues (Aloha / '68 Special Deluxe DVD's) was pretty lame.

EPE can indeed be pretty lame at times, this is nothing new.

Caveat: Don't ever take any promises by EPE literally, for they only mean it at the time they say it. As circumstances change, so does their bottom-line.

---------------

As for TTWII-SE:

I loved it when it first came out, but once I got my hands on the Aloha / '68 Special Deluxe Sets ------> I was pissed that they didn't give the same treatment to TTWII-SE. I also thought the chop-chop editing between different jumpsuits in TTWII-SE blew chunks & was pretty amateurish when I first viewed the re-release.

Let us not forget the ONE SINGLE SNIPPET of "No More" when they reissued the Aloha show WITH SONG OMISSIONS before the Deluxe Sets. They included that snippet as an enticement to buy the re-issue all over again.

Am under no delusions here, I fully expect more of the same from EPE in the coming years. Hell, just look at the Mini-Series fiasco now going on & I'm sure they'll be dribbling out a few more minutes of unseen footage from their vaults on "Presley By The Beaulieu's & Lisa" (which is why I'll buy it ..... ;) ).

I dont know if i have any real opinion on both the 68 and aloha delux sets as a fan i have most of the 68 comeback videos and the same with the aloha videos I was happy to buy both of these on DVD and have watched them numerous times and enjoyed them everytime I agree they should have given us wht we where promised no doubt on that part but i like so many other will go and buy the single DVD also to see what is missing and i will watch them. The simple answer is if you are not happy then dont buy and dont support them, I will not complain as in my opinion the more someone complains the less you seem to get if they locked everything up and said stuff you that is it you have what you have got and there will be no more then what would we all do, I look forward to new releases wether it is a re-release of something old or something new How many of you already have the tracks that where put out on the FTD CD's probably most of you on one CD or another but yet you still bought the FTD collection and you still will, so stop complaining and be happy when we finaly get something for years we gor nothing but crap releases

i don't think i'll be buying the single disk releases either. to me they will just cheapen the special eddition releases. (n)
