Elvis studio over live

I have allways love Elvis music in the studio even in the 70s.
his live concerts are ok, but to me i have love his studio recordings much better.

because to me Elvis seems more relax in the studio then his live concerts.

but this in my own opinon.:D

and i have more studio recodings then live anyway.
but on the live concert i just love to see them on video.:D

can't choose what's best. sometimes i like to listen to live more than studio and other times it's the other way around :)

No worthy winnner for me either. Both are oustanding...even though we know that there are a few poor shows out there....the rest make up for these easily.

There is something extra about certain songs performed live, that much i will say. Certain 'power' numbers come across so much better live.

Live or studio? That's a tough one.

On one hand, being the consummate performer and having the stage presence that he did, I think that the live shows are where Elvis really shined. Connecting with his audience in the way that only he could, generating that unreal amount of excitment, and of course, that kind of energy being transferred into his singing all made for a magical experience. So any audio (or video) that we have of such moments of brilliance are to be treasured probably as much as anything else.

On the other hand, though he didn't have the crowd to spur him on in the studio, that was also a good thing. The result was that he didn't have to cater to them but could instead do work that satisfied the artist within. And Elvis being a musical genius who trusted his instincts, naturally the recordings he made in the studio were also magical but in a different way. Though live concerts capture a very real experience, the studio recordings are almost more real in that they better capture what the man was all about or where he was musically. Elvis said he didn't want to be 40 years old singing Hound Dog; well, he was. But he didn't have to re-record the song for every album, so in some respects, the recording process in the studio was more liberating for him.

Granted, that's not addressing the issue of publishing royalties and the business of his song choices being pre-picked and all that crap, but that stuff and other things which made him grow less enthusiastic about recording aside, I think he was able to be more creative on his records.

Of course, getting to listen to outtakes, rehearsals, and home recordings all add to the fun of enjoying his non-live output.

Still, it's basically a toss-up to me.

I think that this is a matter of comparing apples with oranges, both are fruit. In Elvis' case (or any other musician) recording and performing are important ingredients of his career. If you don't record you're not creating a demand for live performances and if you don't perform you won't sell any albums. But I have to add that the Elvis concerts all began to look the same with only occasionally changes. If he did put more album material in his shows the ballance between the recordings and the live concerts would be set differently. He also should have toured less with just one tour each year national or worldwide.

i guess the nearest we have are the 68 sit down shows :clap: and we all know how cool
they are !

I like the studio sessions aswell as the live concerts. I just love to see Elvis having fun, weither it was in the studio or at stage. His laughing and jokes are always great to hear. Ofcourse Unplugged would be sooo cool. :cool: Just like the '68 combake yes. :clap:

For me Elvis is one of few the rock legends who are better live, than on studio recordings... I can?t say why, but I like live recordings more than his studio recordings.

The live shows were outstanding - excepting a few bad concerts - but I just LOVE the studio material : I mean, just listen to BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER, I GOT A FEELIN? IN MY BODY and ANY DAY NOW, to give some too few examples. I couldn?t live without that kind of studio material. Pure magic and timeless music.:notworthy
