RCA announces the issue of Elvis by the Presleys, a 2-CD complementary issue for the upcoming TV special. This 2 disc special will contain 24 songs on the first disc, with a bonus disc that includes alternate takes, demos, live, and private recordings of well known songs that include "Jailhouse Rock," "Blue Christmas," and "Baby What You Want Me To Do." These songs are mastered using DSD technology.
This CD set will issue on May 3 and be followed by the DVD (4.5 hours long form of the upcoming televised TV special) on May 17. Soon a coffee table book will join the two media titles.

Blue Christmas '77 (surely from ST77)--I'm impressed. Well, by that anyway. Disc 2 looks rather short on running time to me, and overall this package could stand to have a few more inspired selections. But if Pris and LMP aren't inspired, what can you do....
"Complementary" to the special...it should be complimentary with the DVD, or for just being a fan or something. :P

Classy cover.
And one VERY interesting detail: glasses.
I've heard that in addition to suffering from glaucoma, Elvis' eyes were pretty poor and that he struggled to read text at close range. Are we meant to infer that he DID actually wear glasses in private and that this will be revealed in the new documentary?

Cryo, he did in fact wear reading glasses. And if I'm not mistaken, those appear to be them. If they are not, the ones I am familiar with are at least similar.

Except for "Indescribably Blue" it's not a very inspired track listing. Does anyone know how many of the unreleased track are truely unreleased? I may pass on this release.

Thanks, Lonnie.
I see the Priscilla bashing has already started elsewhere. (n) Apparently, the cover is completely uninspiring and Elvis' glasses are tacky and nothing like the TCB sunglasses he sported. Personally, I think the cover is incredibly tasteful - even artistic - and am glad it's not some loud, hyper-glossy appeal to the MTV generation. The cover leaps out at you because of its subtlety; not because it would (ordinarily) have pandered to the mass market with bold pictures of Elvis, flashy fonts or bright colours. And if Elvis really did own/wear reading glasses... all the more credit to Priscilla for forging ahead and humanising the man with such a brilliant touch. Elvis may not have wanted all his frailties exposed to the world... but I'm sure he didn't want all his faults exposed and his name dragged through mud, either. I'm glad to see we're getting this.
Priscilla may not be a perfect human being... but who is? Certainly not Elvis. I applaud this latest endeavour.

I would agree that this DVD cover is quite nice, certainly a departure from the usual. Humanizing, as you said.

I like the cover. But the cover has never been a deciding factor for me when it comes to a purchase. It's the content that matters most.

Agreed.
But the cover is about all we have to go on right now. And would you believe it...? Some fans (I'm thinking primarily of comments I've read at another site) can't even resist denigrating that.
Lonnie, not the most flattering of frames. But then again, it was the 60s/70s!

The cover is alright to me.But I don't usually buy an Elvis cd/dvd or book
for the cover alone. The contents is more important to me.
If I say something about the cover, I am usually joking about it.:D
It's just that some fans complain about the covers to much in my
opinion.
I know there are releases of Elvis with bad covers but to me if it's
Elvis,who cares,I don't.
Does anybody know if some of the songs have been released before
from the cd ?
