If you wonder why my screenname is Waymore here's the explanation. I had the pleasure of hanging out with my hero Waylon Jennings on two different occasions. We talked a lot about music. I told him that I liked Dwight Yoakam a lot. He said, "I don't know why. I just don't like him very much at all." Of course Dwight would probably be unhappy to hear that given the fact that he later cut one of Waylon's tunes, "I'll Go Back To Her", and also after Waylon's death he cut "Stop The World And Let Me Off" on the tribute album ...but I digress. What I'm getting at is Waylon didn't like much at all. He was a great guy and everything you expected him to be, but he was hard on other artists. BUT when I told him he was my second favorite singer under Elvis I got a different reaction. He said, "You know I was listening to him the other day. Lord, he sure was good." I mentioned to him Elvis's version of "You Asked Me To". He said that he really liked it a lot but he didn't care much for the background vocals. I happen to agree with him. He proceeded to tell me some stories about or related to Elvis in the '70's. He said Elvis always called him "Hillbilly". He said that he was talking to Col Parker about managing him for awhile but that the Col told him he was too accessable to his fans and he would need to change that. That turned Waylon off. He told me he was with Elvis at some sort of party. He said they were talking and Priscilla sat down beside him. She said something to him and he in Waylon's words, "elbowed the shit out of her in the stomach". Elvis then looked up at Waylon and grinned. Waylon didn't think that was very funny, in fact it kind of pissed him off. He said that the last time he saw Elvis was at Graceland. He went up to his bedroom and he was sitting on the bed in his pajamas really strung out and hardly talking. A couple of years ago when Waylon passed away I bought his book. The elbow story is in there but told in a slightly different way than I remember him telling it to me. There are two more Elvis stories in the book that are interesting. I attached a scan of those pages of the book.
