in elvis movies did the real elvis exist?

hey guys, i was watching follow that dream before(always one of my favs) and when the scene came when he was singing follow that dream i thought to myself is toby singing along with elvis? i know theres the scene in gi blues where you see the jukebox and the guy says he wants to here the real thing or something along those lines... and then blue suede shoes comes on. and in girls girls girls, when ross and laurel are walking to the old church you can see the blue hawaii poster in the background. which leads me to my question..... didn't anyone ever notice that toby, or charlie or lucky, or chad etc.... looked and sang just like elvis presley!!!. :king: i always wish that in the elvis movies would have done that inside joke where he would hear himself on the radio and say something along the lines of... 'i really like that guy' i think it would have been a fun poke at elvis and us fans would have gotten a kick out of it. :D anyway let me hear what you guys think. i'm off to watch double trouble :cool: . have a great weekend..... simmerrocks (y)

By rights, if the real Elvis actually existed within each self-contained movie universe, then his alter egos wouldn't have been able to go anywhere without being mistaken for him and mobbed on a constant basis. :D His alter egos' protestations that they weren't actually Elvis would also have fallen on deaf ears - what with all those "let's stop the movie to perform a song" moments!

Perhaps Elvis should have done a semi-autobiographical movie in which he tried to evade fans by disguising himself as another person. It wouldn't have been any more ridiculous than half the other stuff he did. Of course, Elvis recently redeemed himself with the independent production, "Bubba Ho Tep". Quite possibly his most complex and affecting performance... Oh, wait. :lmfao:

Reminds me of the scene in Spinout where the band is having their dinner in great outdoors, where they've set up camp for the night. I can't remember what was said just before this, but a dog came up to them, one of them mistook it for something else, I guess, and Elvis corrected him, saying, "Nah, it's a hound dog!" Then he shot everyone at the table a sarcastic grin. :king:

Not just speaking of Elvis, but with any movie it's as though you must believe the characters exist in a world in which the actors who portray them--and all the other movies they've been in--don't.

One of my favourite "inside jokes" was Mulder taking a leak in the "X-Files" movie and doing it over a poster for "Independence Day". :lmfao:

I think, when you consider the format that most of his movies took, inside jokes of the kind described above were perfectly acceptable - yet, at the same time, they were also demonstrative of a much larger problem; the very same problem that meant Elvis was stuck doing trash for most of his Hollwood career. If only there'd been a few more "King Creole"s and "Flaming Star"s...
