Thanks for sharing that hard earned pic ;) Oddly enough, I find the lead looking less like Elvis in full make-up, than in some other pix I saw of his - as himself - on the net..... I'd never have expected that

Do you know who the guy next to him is playing? And when is this production supposed to air in the US?

I'll be posting updated info about the production of the mini-series on my post "Elvis (CBS mini series". It tells when the air dates are and who's in the cast. The post is in the Off Topic forum. Check it out!!!

CBS has announced that their four-hour miniseries "Elvis" will air over two nights: May 8th and 11th, respectively. There will be another related special, "Elvis by the Presleys", airing May 13th. That latter program will feature new interviews with Priscilla and Lisa Marie.

He looks terrible as Elvis..... (n)
I liked the guy in the other Elvis series much better... (Dennis St. Gerard....was that his name?)....
This guy looks like he's just run away from a mental institution... :hmm: sorry

it was Michael St. Gerard...
He resembled Elvis some, though he always reminded me of George Michael, too, with his underbite :P
Apparently, St. Gerard (how appropriate with such a name) is now a pastor for a NYC "Sunday School" class.

but this other NO Way. (n)

I had trouble deciding which one was Elvis :D
No kidding aside does the actor really have to look like Elvis? for me if the story is told well (warts and all) and done in a tasteful way then I'm not bothered if the resemblance isn't there.
Just my view.

I'm torn... I do appreciate an actor that resembles Elvis, but I'm more concerned with the approach of how his story is told. If it's done respectfully and in good taste, the looks are the last thing on my mind. It's a plus if the actor does resemble him. Let's face it... unless they've purposely had a ton of plastic surgery, they'll never be anyone who looks identicle to the Man!!!
I say we give Jonathan Rhys-Meyers a chance! He might do one helluva job!
P.S. - Have any of you read "Last Train To Memphis" or "Careless Love"? These are amazing books and if they ever made a 'big screen' feature on Elvis, I think they should base it on those two stories. It's never been told better!!!

I can deny it. I don't see any resemblance facially. I also have a problem with the hair. Elvis' iconic 50s hair is an important part of the image. This guy's hairline is way too high and it looks terrible. Not getting that basic element right is akin to someone playing Lincoln without a beard.

His hairline *is* a little high.
But who can honestly match Elvis' looks down to the last detail? If they'd used a wig, it probably wouldn't have looked right.
All in all, I think Jonathan Rhys-Meyers looks as much like Elvis (or, in the style of "half empty or half full?", as much unlike Elvis) as Michael St Gerard. As has been said, it's the embodiment of Elvis himself - through costuming, acting, direction, narration, dialogue etc - that matters more. Those are things that *can* be done properly in respectful and capable hands.

THANKS TCBTIGERMAN FOR POSTING THE PICTURE!!!
I can see a slight (and I am using the word "slight" in a very loose way) resemblence to Elvis in JR-M, but I can also see a slight resemblence in some Elvis tribute artists too!! ;)
I guess we'll just have to wait and see how the whole production turns out....I am quite skeptical of the whole thing....as I mentioned in a previous post elsewhere on the board, I was a bit baffled at the casting of Randy Quaid as The Colonel....whenever I think of Randy Quaid, all I can see is his performance as Cousin Eddie in the National Lampoon Vacation movie series....not real sure if he will make a good Colonel Parker or not... :hmm:
Overall, I just have an uneasy feeling about this whole project....
THANKS AGAIN TCBTIGERMAN for posting the photo....and by the way, WELCOME to the board!! It's great to have you here and I hope to see you around the board often!! (y)
TCB!

I know that there was only one Elvis and thank you God for given us Elvis, but nobody looks like Elvis.Nobody ever will. One question......does anyone knows why the picked this dude?In what way he looks like Elvis? That they both are males? It was really Three questions. ;)

Lisa Marie looks like Elvis. But I guess she doesn't count. :P If only Elvis had had a son as well!
It's hard to get even a close physical approximation of Elvis. He had such a strange complexion. Of all the people of a suitable age operating in Hollywood today, I would have to say that Joaquin Phoenix looks the most like him.

I LOVE Joaquin, but I hardly see any Elvis in him: too short and stocky, way too big a nose and he has that thing that looks like the scar of a cleft lip going on  Gorgeous eyes though and I think he was fantastic in "Gladiator"! (y)

Speaking of Joaquin Phoenix, he's plays the lead roll in the up-coming big-screen movie about Johnny Cash. The movie is called 'Walk The Line' and there's a guy that plays Elvis named Tyler Hilton (far left in B&W pic)?
Other legends portrayed in the movie are Roy Orbison (Jonathan Rice), Jerry Lee Lewis (Waylon Payne) and Waylon Jennings (played by his own son, Shooter Jennings).
Here's some pics....

To be honest, he don't look too good inthat pic. What's up with that hair? But this is just a candid pic so I won't make to much of it. I'll wait 'till the publicity pics come out. Hopefully he can act and doesn't just do an Elvis parody.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I remember reading that. God, that guitar is darn near crashing the poor little baby! Johnny Cash was even taller than Elvis, and Joaquin is already quite a bit shorter than the King:jawdrop: (n)
Great actor though, just a bit miscast (I say without having viewed it yet, uh oh) :P
