I've often thought about how much longer Elvis would have worn Jumpsuits?

I know It's what people assoiciated Elvis with, but surely it would have got to the stage that even Elvis would have looked, well odd!

I liked Elvis in the Jaycees Tux and would like to think he would have adopted that kind of style?

There again Elvis was unique in style, perhaps he would have come up with something a little less 70's and still maintained showmanship in the process.

I don't know, what do you think

I really dislike the 'pizza' suit. It has always bothered me that this was the last jump suit we saw Elvis perform in. If it had been one of the two piece suits, I think the overall perception of Elvis during his last days would have been entirely different.

Yes I agree the Sundial Jumpsuit is certainly one that did not flatter Elvis and It's over use didn't help. (n)

If you look at the jumpsuits over the last two years 1976-77 (approx 5 New Ones) there was very little In the way of new and breathtaking, with the exception of the Flame Jumpsuit (y) which had been designed some years before and Elvis didn't like it and only wore it a few times.

I agree that the two piece Jumpsuits of 1972 and 1975 would have been the way forward, the Jumpsuit below was allegedly to be worn in the August 1977 Tour!

It certainly looks better than anything worn in quite some time. :D

Perhaps the Guys can come up with a convincing picture of Elvis (1977) to edit onto the suit above to give a flavour of how it woul have looked!!!!

Hi Matt,

First of all: great avatar!

The suit seems more like a "2piece suit meets jumpsuit" style. The upperhalf looks divided from the bottom half, but it's still one suit. Also the change of colors was very welcome by that time.

I completely agree that the image of the 70s Elvis was completely different when he would have used a 2-piece suit (like in '72 and '75) during the final 2 years. Imagine a "CBS In Concert" special where Elvis would have worn something like the attached image.

I love the jumpsuits, but agree with Elvis' decision to discontinue using them when he turned 40. A shame that he stopped wearing the 2-piece suits and returned to the jumpsuits. It just didn't fit his age and posture anymore.

Hey, nice work, Matt! (y)

I used to not care so much for the Sundial suit because I used to associate it with Elvis near the end of his life, for which I did not have the appreciation that I do now. And perhaps it is not the most flattering outfit he could have been wearing then, but I have since come to think that the suit is really quite spectacular.

2-piece suits would have been a better option in the final years, but I think he probably continued to wear the jumpsuits because the fans loved them and he did too. They were such a part of his image. I'm sure a change would have come before too long, but I don't think he would have been too concerned about changing his look just to be in line with the changing fashion trends, because he was always did his own thing anyway.

Along the same lines, I wonder when his sideburns, which had been of considerable length since 1968, would have been cropped. That's kind of hard to picture! I guess after a few years he would have lost the burns and his part might have moved over to the middle and he'd just have that "feathered" look...Ya know, I'm glad we never got to see Elvis with a mullet! I don't think that that last unworn jumpsuit would have looked all that bad on EP, nor do I think that you can get an accurate sense of what it would have really looked like by pasting EP's image on one.

------------------------------------------------------

Pure speculation, but I think that Belew would have been redesigning EP's on-stage wardrobe by the time the 80's rolled around.

The jumpsuits were typical 70's stuff and viewed as cool then.

Hell, I still like them - on Elvis that is.

As EP did with every decade of his career, both him & his wardrobe would have changed and evolved.

It's so weird... on the one hand I can't stand it that Elvis ruined his life the way he did and died so young, but on the other hand I'm glad he didn't stay long enough to become a bald, rimpled singer who gets fired by the recordcompany because of the low sales and have to sell his Graceland.
