I'm not exactly a fan of bruce, but I like the fact he pays homage to the King. I think I know 4 songs! Dancing in the Dark, Born in the USA, Born to Run, the last song of his I know is the song from Philadephia.
Bruce has sung many Elvis songs in his "marathon" concerts that sometimes run as long as 4 hours.
He also wrote the song "Fire" in 77 right after Elvis died with Elvis in mind....the Pointer Sisters had a huge hit with it later.
Bruce says Elvis touched him deeply.

I'm a little familiar with the pointer sisters, although off the top of my head, the only songs I can remember are I'm so excited and automatic. I couldn't imagine sitting / standing at a Bruce concert for a minute let alone four hours!! I do know he's a fan, so I give him his dues there.

I'm like you...those are his only songs I can think of.

me too.......lol
How about the song,"Streets of Philadelphia", a song he wrote for the Tom Hanks movie "Philadelphia" and for which Springstein won the best song Oscar in 93. He was also nominated for a best song Oscar in 95 for "Dead Man Walking"
He is not a huge voice like Elvis, his voice has limits-but he is a great writer....and his energy is remarkable, he says he was slightly disappointed as a teen that many concerts he saw-ended so quickly...or the entertainers were lackluster.
So he gives his all every single show, and he no one who attends can say they did not get their moneys worth.
I respect that.

I did mention that song, but couldn't remember the actual title. The film itself was very good, just not something I'd want to watch again. I can appreciate that he wants to put on a show, but surely that can be done in half the time. I suppose if you really like the artist in question the duration isn't an issue, but 4 hours is extremely epic and 4 hours you won't ever get back. Bruce fans, I salute your patience.

I could handle 4 hours with Elvis.

Well its all relative and subjective-if you like Bruce-4 hours may not be enough-as far as I know no one have ever complained his shows were to long so they must enjoy them.
If Elvis had given 4 hour shows-I would have not complained in any way shape or form
The Elvis show I saw was a little under an hour of him onstage.... I would have gladly, happily, euphorically welcomed more time for that concert.

He always said, leave them wanting more......I guess it worked.

Yes it did, but sadly now there is no more to come.

You are absolutely correct, but I've been to too many concerts with artists that just aren't my thing and the time just drags. Of course if you are a fan, then you want it to last. If I'd had the chance of seeing Elvis, I would also wish for a lengthier duration. I don't have anything against Bruce, he's just not my thing. My partner took me to see Elvis at the o2 and he sat with his head in his hands for the entire time, to him that was sheer hell, to me it was fantastic, so it is all relative.

lol......we'll have to meet Jen......I've done Wembley, but next time it's definitely the O2
I dont understand why he didn't get swept up in the excitement and atmosphere. I find it astounding that people are whooping and hollering for a Man who isn't 'actually' there............amazing
Yes its all relative to the person in all things.
I was not much of a Springstein fan when Time had him on the cover as the "Future of Rock" and he was what I thought would be "another flavor of the month"
But his talent (at least to his fans) has won out because he still sells outstadiums, still sells records......I "discovered him" through a cassette tape at a flea market about 15 years ago-the album was "Tunnel of Love" much more mellow, much more feeling great vocals.
I also liked his song "57 Channels and Nothing On" which mentions Elvis in a humorous way.
But I most respect his willingness-to do those long shows for the fans who truely love him.
My daughter, whos now 28, has seen McCartney, Clapton, Dave Mathews Band, Chuck Berry, Alanis Morresette and many others including Springstein and even though shes a huge Beatle fan (yes I somewhere along the way I failed:D to impress upon her the total majesty of Elvis) she said Springstein did every single request that was yelled at him and he then asked "anymore?"
But Elvis was-is, and always will be the greatest entertainer I ever saw no matter the short or long of his show.

You know, I really thought he would enjoy it once we got there, but no, he hated every second, constantly clock watching. He prefers the Beatles (nuff said). I took my mum to see Tom Jones and that was baaaaaaaaaaaaaad! I love my mum, but I couldn't do it again. But next time at the o2, would be great to meet up.

From your description he does seem to really want to entertain his fans and I can respect that, but at 3/4 hours, it's still too much for me. I cannot believe your daughter doesn't like Elvis :P

It's always nice to hear other musicians talking about Elvis being an influence and an inspiration for them.
I think that's Elvis' main legacy that he left behind.
All these famous musicians wouldn't have been if not for Elvis.
Where would music be if Elvis had not exsisted.
I'm sure Elvis would have appreciated Bruce Springsteen's comments.
