I saw these over at FECC and I was bowled over at seeing the second photo of Elvis in the sunlight, I had seen the first one. Photo's are courtesy of Paul Sweeney who has a great site. I have cleaned these up a little (y)

The 2nd photo has an almost other worldly feel to it-.
Also in the second photo one of his eyes-it would be the one we see on the right, the pupil seems oddly tilted or am I just imaging that?

I agree, I think they used a light placed over him. Unless it was not taken in the tv room, I see a few things in the background that have the look of the tv room.

It does seem strange but the sunlight seems natural or someone did a great job...
