They did this on FECC a few weeks ago...found it interesting as to which Cd's were being played (y)

I'm really into the FTD memphis show at the moment...rarely off the cd player...with So High a close second.

Some of the alternates on So High are fantastic  and as we (i say we...i hope most of you got yours too  ) got free replacements...the dodgy cd ( if thats what you call it...a split second error  ) is in the car. And being played every day.

You'll never walk alone is AWESOME and i can't believe that they have left it this long to release it

I'll give essential Elvis ( Rythm and Country ) a mention too...as thats been on the computer most in the last few days (y)

Nice topic...

Today I've been listening to an "oldie" Such A Night.

It has a great selection of alternates and the sound and mixing are just awesome!

On top of that it came to mind that the packaging and artwork are very nice, much better than some of the FTD's.

mine would have to be 'still rockin' the nation' which is played almost all the time with 'jungle room sessions' a close second :D

My recent most-played CD is Suspicious minds-'69 anthology....I'M NEVER TIRED OF LISTENING TO LONG BLACK LIMOUSINE OR AND THE GRASS WON'T PAY NO MIND!!!!!!!!  :P
How can I spend a day without listening to concert recordings- this week it's As recorded on stage in Memphis ;)

At the moment it's anything from the '68 Special. I am trying to picture what we could expect from the DVD. A few little gems are cropping up. has anyone noticed on the video of the '68 Special, during one of the stand up segments, where the camera has focused on the audience, there is a shot of Jerry Schilling's wife sitting next to Joanie Esposito, with Charlie (I think it's Charlie) behind them. He is looking very glum.

The songs from 'Today' are classics don't you agree? That era in Elvis' career is pure heaven........but there's still a lot of people out there who don't have any idea about what he was doing at that time.....

I AGREE COMPLETELY CAROLYN!!! (y)

As I have mentioned before in other posts, TODAY is my favorite Elvis album of all time!! There's just something about that album....it has a little bit of everything, from country ("Susan When She Tried") to great ballads ("Pieces Of My Life", "Woman Without Love", "Green Green Grass Of Home") to awesome cover versions ("I Can Help", "Fairytale") to good ol' rock n' roll ("T-R-O-U-B-L-E")!!

I think it is just such a great album from top to bottom....I never get tired of listening to it! :D

I am so glad that you agree Carolyn!! You have GREAT taste!! ;)

You know, I can't listen to 'Pieces of My Life' without shedding a tear. It happens every time........There are lots of songs that people associate with various times in Elvis' life, and some may or may not be true, but this song.........I think it captures the whole story....from the very beginning to the end.....I mean, obviously Elvis didn't know when he was going to die, but he must have sensed he was really travelling an alternate path than one he should have been travelling.....

Jungleroom76

EXCELLENT ASSESSMENT CAROLYN!!

In my opinion, "Pieces Of My Life" and "My Way" are probably 2 of the most introspective recordings that Elvis made during the 1970's (and maybe even during his entire lifetime)!!

As I said Carolyn, you have OUTSTANDING TASTE!!! ;)

Listened to "Thank You Very Much" yesterday evening in the kitchen while cooking for the "Mothersday Dinner" :D

When that CD was finished I started another of my alltime favourites: "Brightest Star On Sunset Blvd". That 2-CD serie really keeps enjoying me. I just love that being-there feeling. That's why other TTWII related CD's are also favourites of mine.

I've always must think of that scene in "This Is Elvis" where the local DJ in the town where Elvis would perform on August 17, talks about The King performing in that city the next day and turns on "His Latest Flame". Then in contrast to that excitement in that city, we're taken back to Memphis where the King is found dead that same moment.

That thought comes to mind everytime you hear that, don't it?

Today I did a lot of drivin' and listened to the concert cd from TTWII SE...

What I've been listening to a lot lately is my record album--I think it's Essential Elvis, the movie years...has a gorgeous album cover :) But anyways, I listen to it when I clean my room. Nothin' like rockin' out to the movie version of "Mean Woman Blues" lol I also have this compilation 3-CD thing called Legendary that I listen to and of course, "That's The Way It Is". I love "Slyvia." I'm also another "The Next Step Is Love" fan ;) And I love "Twenty Days and Twenty Nights," "Words"...and "Mystery Train/Tigerman"...Tigerman especially because I can picture him doing it from the movie lol :) I love them ALL really...

I love "For the Heart" I think it is, on "The Jungle Room Sessions"...but I don't have that CD I just have some of the songs from it burnt. It's on my list to buy. I hate burnt CDs.

Speaking of getting shivers from loud shrieks, listen to the Afternoon In The Garden CD. When Elvis enters the stage, the roar from the crowd is just deafening! Can you imagine being up there and getting hit by that wave of sound, and being the one to have elicited that kind of response? It's amazing Elvis had any humility at all.

Cool. (y)

Not sure if I have any complaints about the Afternoon CD really, but yes, certainly the original MSG release is overdue for an upgrade. Perhaps Afternoon is somewhat lacking, but hearing that after being used to the sound of the original sure makes it hard to find fault in it.

Having said all that, I haven't listened to it in some time. But that crowd reaction sure made an impression. Be sure to play it loud!

Tiger man recently- still get shivers from those loud shrieeeeeks.....? :D
[/b][/quote]
I know...I know-In the Garden CD the shrieks are really GREAT to hear-those shivers are slightly different from those of NBC TV Special-what is more beautiful for the performer (and for uas-listeners)to listen to a beautiful :P unison of screams when entering the stage (like in the Garden shows)!!!!!At NBC there are of course not so many people -those WAAAHHHH and ELVIIIIS can be heard from one or two (ok-maybe more persons...ok...mostly girls-LOL)...Anyway...what am I talkin about...whatta topic I started to discuss :whistling:

I only hope the new DVD's are as good :please:

Right now " A Little Less Conversation" as loud as my stereo will let me!! Concert level I think...lol. I'm really stuck on that particular song right now, I play it over and over
As much as my husband loves Elvis I think he's starting to get really tired of hearing the same song over and over  .....lololol

I have been listening to Good Times...and i have to say this album is
superb (y) I have a soft spot for all the 70's albums mind...but of them all - this doesn't seem to get mentioned that often.

The highlights for me are... :hmm:

Loving Arms...sensational ballad
I got a feelin' in my body...great rocker
My Boy...awesome...what else can i say ?
Good Time Charlies got the blue's...another of my all-time favourites (y)

Don't take my word for it  go play it

Lonniebealestreet

I completely agree, NightRider.

Promised Land seems to be thought of a lot more highly--and it is a great album, but Good Times is more of a personal favorite.

I've Got A Thing About You Baby...Talk About The Good Times...(y)--in addition to the songs you named, of course. GCGTB is one of my absolute favorites as well--probably in my top 5.

As far as what I'm listening to...the Fool album. Another one it seems a lot of people aren't big fans of (these two and the From EPB album all rank very highly with me), but I think they're all looney. Only kidding. I think that is the case because this was the album which should have capitalized on the success of the Aloha special/album, and it was essentially just a hodgepodge of leftovers. But how about the quality of those leftovers! Admittedly, Love Me, Love The Life I Lead did not meet Elvis's approval for release, and that should not have happened--I still like it though. But look at what else is on there...It's Impossible, which could not have been sung any more beautifully and was a live recording; the three beautiful "Elvis at the piano" songs; the contemporary For Lovin' Me, Don't Think Twice, and Where Do I Go From Here; a personal favorite of Elvis's in Padre, which was naturally given an impassioned treatment; and Fool, one of the great heartsick ballads. I love it!

Good points Bobby,
I'd agree with all you have said about Elvis (fool) album. I've always rated it pretty highly too. As for Padre - i love it...and i remember it being slated on FECC a few months ago  saying that i wasn't fitting of an Elvis recording...i always thought he did a great job on it myself.

As for the rest of the album...Yep...Fool is a classic...and as you say...It's Impossible simply beautiful. (y)
Its funny how the piano tracks are cast aside by many too as just album fillers...which they probably were..but i think they are beautifully sung...a bit like an Elvis un-plugged...if you know what i mean (y)

So...can you guess whats on the cd player now ;)

I'm listening to "Elvis At Sun" and I must say what a fantastic job Kevan Budd has done on the restoration of all of these tracks, even down to the smallest detail. We will never get to hear these songs in better quality, and as they were originally recorded. He really didn't leave any stone unturned restoring these songs to their natural, original glory. We even get the original ending to "Mystery Train" as well as a complete (without dropouts & badly spliced ending) "I'm Left You're Right She's Gone", just fantastic !!!

NightRider,

I remember that discussion about Padre and how most people didn't think very much of it. That puzzled me too.

The piano tracks are indeed very cool. I think Elvis was as "real" on those tracks as he ever was.

Elvis At Sun...At first I thought I wouldn't buy it. I did buy the single, but generally I just don't listen to the Sun stuff very often. Plus, I recently got a sealed copy of the Complete Sun Sessions 2LP, and I thought rather than get the new CD I'd celebrate the anniversary by breaking those out.

Well, I will still probably do that, but last night I gave into the tempation to get the new CD. It was rather late when I got it, so today presented the first opportunity for me to give it a listen. Just a couple hours ago, I got it out, put it on, put on my headphones, and then halfway through Harbor Lights my napping nineteen month-old decided his short nap was all he needed :supriced:, and that was that. :(

But I'll get back to it later, and what little I did hear sounded quite good. (y)

You have GREAT taste!! ;)

TCB!
Mike

Wow I obviously have WAY to much time on my hands going through such old threads from 3 years ago :blink::blink:

But I just found this and Mike have to agree with you about the Today Sessions. Inspired me to give the FTD set a play on the computer. The music is just magical and give it a #2 spot on my all time favorite sessions from Elvis behinde the magical Jungle Room Sessions !!!
The songs from today though were so varied as you mention, ballads, rock n roll hits etc sometthing for everybody I LOVE it!!
