yes josephine, he never performed it live, I think it just got to personal for him, And i agree this one is way more better then the on tour version this one shows even more emotion!

Thanks for posting, I'm going to order it myself. I wasn't aware of this FTD rehearsal CD.
Elvis sang emotional songs from the beginning of his career Starting with "That's When Your Heartaches Begin" demo he did in Sun Studios July 18, 1953
It must have affected him to sing Separate Ways, something he should have done during his 1972 tour. My cousin told me he remembered hearing it on the radio as much as Burning Love. Maybe since Red West wrote it for him it was a double whammy cause not only is it one of his best friends song but I think this song is too close to what happened as well.
