"GRAPHIC ELVIS" Limited Edition Collectors Hardcover Book

“When I was a child ladies and gentlemen, I was a dreamer. I read comic books, and I was the hero of the comic book...So every dream that I’ve dreamed has come true a hundred times…” - Elvis

Graphic Elvis” is an illustrated homage to Elvis’ lifelong appreciation of comic books, commemorating the 35th anniversary of Elvis Presley’s death in 2012.

In the same way comic books inspired Elvis, this book allowed today’s premiere comic book creators to find inspiration from Elvis’ treasured archives at Graceland, creating a unique visual experience for his millions of fans.

Acclaimed graphic novel artists recruited from around the world portray the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll in unprecedented visual styles. Beyond the original illustrations, the book features numerous hand-written notes and musings, rarely seen by the public and written in the margins of various books owned by Elvis. A whole new way to experience the greatest rockstar the world has ever known.

The legendary Stan Lee (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stan_Lee) is honoring Elvis Presley for Free Comic Book Day. The comic book icon has created a special comic book story about the King of Rock 'n Roll to give away for free during the event.
Stan Lee's Elvis story is included in the exclusive "Graphic Elvis". The special has been limited to only 2,500 copies and is available on through selected retailers and from www.graphicelvis.com (http://www.graphicelvis.com).

Lee has released a statement saying, "What a thrill it is for me to be included in a book celebrating the life of Elvis Presley. I remember the time I first saw him on TV, when he burst upon the music scene like a blazing comet.

I remember his indescribably rich voice, his incredible sense of rhythm, his magnificent range--from rock, to pop, to ballads and hymns. I remember the indescribably powerful impact he had on the youth of the nation--and the world. How lucky we were to have seen and heard him, because there was only one Elvis Presley, whose songs and whose memory will live forever."

Amazing! This is just the style that I love so much: a fine line between art and comic. Two hundred bucks is a bit out of my league, but I guess that a cheaper version will become available eventually?

I'm wondering what that app will be where they're talking about

The app is $10 but I downloaded the free version first and it doesn't work. I will wait before I buy the $10 version and see if it works.

While I certainly give kudos to the artists who drew these amazing-looking graphic novels, I personally don't really see the reason for these graphic novels. Yes, I understand the tie-in to comics and Elvis and again, the artistry in these samples shown appear outstanding, but I guess you have to be a fan of graphic novels to understand the attraction to this idea... :hmm: ;)
