First off, my apologies if this has been already discussed. This forum is wealth of info.

I saw on an Elvis website (which one I cannot remember) a list of of the Vegas dates and the official (RCA-BMG/ FTD) CDs for those dates starting in 1969. I am trying to get a list and ulitmately collect those. I am a HUGE Elvis Vegas fan. I loved those shows, not that his tours were bad either but I just want to focus on the Vegas shows.

If ya'll can help with a list or know of one or something it would really be appreciated. Also I would love any recommendations of the concerts/CDs to get.

Thank you
Darrell

Well that's some task.

Well from FTD label you can start trying to get this ones:

-Elvis in Person (Classic Albums series, not to confuse with the Legacy edition of it). Which is the original '69 L.P. plus the August 22 '69 Dinner Show.
-Elvis At The International. Which is the August 23 '69 Midnight Show.
-Live in Las Vegas. Which is the Aug 26 '69 Dinner show.
-All Shook Up. Which is the Aug 26 '69 Midnight show
-Polk Salad Annie. Different dates from February 1970.
-One Night In Vegas. August 10, 1970 Opening Show.
-The Wonder Of You. August 13, 1970 Dinner show.

From the Mainstream Label you can start out going for this ones:

-On Stage [Legacy Edition] This is like the definitive vegas Album on the mainstream label to me. It has the two classic vegas albums: On Stage from Feb 1970, and In Person from Aug 1969. Plus some bonus tracks.

-Elvis: Live in las Vegas Box set. Here is the full Aug 24 '69 Dinner Show, and the full Aug 11 '70 Dinner Show. Plus you will get the full 1956 performance, all the live masters from vegas Feb 1970, and Feb 1972, and a bunch of rarities from 1974.

-The Special Edition 3cd set of That's The Way It Is, which has the original album, the Aug 12 1970 Midnight show, some extra live perfromances from the same season, and rehearsals.

-Now the import version of the Viva Las Vegas soundtrack (not the soundtrack of the '64 film but to a documental about Elvis in Vegas), contains a bonus Cd wit hthe full Aug 21, '69 Midnight Show.

There is much more both in FTD and in the mainstream label, plus the bootleg world, but those are the basics to me. If you are going from zero, the Live in Las Vegas box set is a great way to start.

Hope this was usefull to you. Sure other members will provide with much more indeep lists.

Thank you for that AWESOME start. That is basically what I want. I appreciate you taking the time to reply.

Is the 2CD Viva Las Vegas the same as the one that was a Walmart only edition with the bonus disc a complete concert?

Dont know about Walmart but its a very decent collection from various concerts of this period. The Live At The International is in my opinion the best complete concert ever recorded. Enjoy whichever you choose.

Yes Darrell, the 2-CD set of VIVA LAS VEGAS (which is the one that has the gold colored cover) has the complete, previously unreleased show from the International Hotel on 8/21/69. (y)

I know Raised On Rock touched on this, but to give you more of a complete list, here are ALL of the FTD releases featuring live performances from Las Vegas:

* ONE NIGHT IN VEGAS (8/10/70 opening show)
* IT'S MIDNIGHT (8/24/74 midnight show)
* DINNER AT EIGHT (12/13/75 dinner show)
* ELVIS AT THE INTERNATIONAL (8/23/69 midnight show)
* THE IMPOSSIBLE DREAM (1/26/71 opening show)
* POLK SALAD ANNIE (2/15/70 midnight show)
* CLOSING NIGHT (9/3/73 closing show)
* BIG BOSS MAN (3/28/75 midnight show)
* ALL SHOOK UP (8/26/69 midnight show)
* SUMMER FESTIVAL (8/11/72)
* I FOUND MY THRILL (1/27/74 dinner show)
* THE WAY IT WAS (Vegas rehearsals and live performances from various shows in August, 1970)
* AN AMERICAN TRILOGY (various live recordings from Jan./Feb. '72 engagement)
* NEVADA NIGHTS (8/19/74 opening show & 8/21/74 midnight show)
* ELVIS IN PERSON AT THE INTERNATIONAL HOTEL (original LP plus complete 8/22/69 dinner show)
* I'LL REMEMBER YOU (2/3/73 dinner show)
* THE WONDER OF YOU (8/13/70)
* FROM SUNSET TO VEGAS (August '74 Vegas rehearsals plus various live Vegas performances from Aug.Sept. '74)
* ELVIS LIVE IN LAS VEGAS (8/26/69 dinner show)
* ON STAGE FEBRUARY 1970 (original LP plus live performances from 2/18/70 midnight show, 2/18/70 dinner show & 2/19/70 midnight show)

There is also a complete Vegas show included with the FASHION FOR A KING book (12/14/75) but in order to get that show, you have to buy the book which has been deleted and is quite hard (and expensive) to find!! Sometimes FTD will re-release CD's that were originally included with the books, so perhaps they will do that down the road. :hmm:

There is another FTD release entitled STAGE REHEARSALS which has Elvis rehearsing material for his various Vegas engagements, but this disc only contains rehearsals...but it's still Vegas related, so I thought I would mention it. ;)

Hope this helps you out and expands on what Raised On Rock mentioned. (y)

Thank you for the welcome. I joined back 2005 but only posted a couple times. Also thank you for the list of the FTD Vegas releases.

I don't know why but I have become sort of obsessed with the Vegas shows. My wife and I went to Vegas last year for the first time and caught a couple of shows - Legends In Concert and the Trent Carlini "Dream King" show at the Hilton. I have always loved Elvis since I was little kid and loved the tour shows he did but being in Vegas and also watching TTWII on TV cemented by love for the Vegas Elvis.

Sorry for the rambling.

Feel free to ramble on my friend...that's why we're here!! ;)

I know what you mean...when I first discovered Elvis when I was 5 years old, the first album I ever listened to was the TODAY album, so instantly I was introduced to the "70's Elvis" so to speak. Even after discovering Elvis' entire body of work as I grew older, there was just something that always drew me back to that era of Elvis' career. Naturally, I love EVERYTHING Elvis did but I will always have a special affection for the 70's period of Elvis' career!! (y)

Anyway, we're glad to have you back with us and hope to see more of you around the forum!! ;)

I did a little record(CD) hunting based on recommendations from this post. I ended up getting these CDs in the past couple of weeks.

1. Elvis At The International -FTD
2. Live In Las Vegas box set - Sony/BMG
3. Thats The Way It Is - 3 CD set (jewel case) Sony/BMG
4. Viva Las Vegas - 2 disc Wal-mart edition - Sony/BMG

I know it isn't much but it is a start.

Great Mike, and what a wealth of Vegas material, plus the additional mainstream CD releases it all adds up to a smorgasbord of Elvis, and for me the best of the king.

The Hillbilly Cat Live cd is a great addition to the collection.

From the ones I just got recently, the Live In Las Vegas box set seems to have the best overall sound. Not that the others are bad, in fact they are awesome. I am playing them on on high end equipment and speakers too. So I am really digging these live concerts tremendously.

I actually really really like the songs on disc one of the Viva Las Vegas CD. I know it is a compilation of live songs but some of them are really powerful versions.

I can't say enough about Elvis and these Vegas shows.

I think the mentioned FTD release: An American Trilogy will also be one you would like. The sound quality (first 17 tracks) of that particular cd is awesome.

I posted a few days ago how much I liked disc one of Viva Las Vegas. I am totally blown away by one song - Never Been To Spain. That version just smokes to me. It seems the mix has more of the band up front with Elvis in awesome voice. I don't know but that really feels like I could hear it on a classic rock station.
