I think she is a very good poet,,but singer,,no. The part about southern roots cracks me up. She has distanced herself from them, and most people assocated with them for years. Her mother helped.

I don't know if appearing on American Idol helped her any, she was really beat up on the comments.

Well you don't have to be from the south to do some southern roots music, just as you don't have to be african american or even american at all to play some blues, so... plus in the end she is from Memphis and Elvis blood anyhow.

I saw Lisa Marie on Jimmy Kimmel last night and she performed her song Over Me. She did better this time than the American Idol performance. The song has a little faster beat and she was moving around more. Maybe she was not as nervous as the American Idol night. I still think Lisa has the microphone to close to her mouth and it makes it difficult to understand what she is singing.

Yes,...i agree, she sing good but still need a lot of work to be great and yep.. i watched it last night and i am not sure what she was singing.. she was mumbling... her husband is the guitarist i believe.
IMO, all and all she's not try to fill any one shoes , his daddy legacy and legend is too huge to fill... so Lisa marie is being Lisa last nite, but i shall pass her CD.

I have the CD with the lyrics and I still couldn't understand her. I know she is not trying to fill her dad's shoes and she shouldn't try to but I just thought that performance was with a little more energy.

Yes she seems to slur and emote so much in her singing that the words get lost.
I love emotion in songs that produces great music-but still you have to be able to understand the premise of the song lyrics.

Thank you for the information Brian. I hate that for her. I don't know if the American Idol show did her any justice. There was not a lot of emotion I think she was extremely nervous. Some of the comments were boring, no emotion and couldn't understand her. That was a huge platform for her to display her album. Even though I like the song You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet, I think she should have performed her song Over Me. It is a song that she could move around a little on stage. She did the song Over Me on the Jimmy Kimmel show and I thought it was a better performance.
I also think if she could go back in time she would have never married Michael Jackson. That has really hurt her image, of what she did have. The people who are Jackson fans would never buy her CD because they think "she used" him and have attacked him since his death.
I really believe that most people that bought the CD are Elvis fans.

True, and many Elvis fans feel MJ used her-to try and detract from the rumors that flew around him at that time.
The MTV awards "kiss" fiasco was obviously his attempt to show he was a regular guy-and I think it backfired.

I'm one that believes that too. MJ used her for distraction and he wanted to be closer to the Elvis link.

Yes the demand to be called the "King of Pop", the marriage to a rock princess (if Elvis is King she is a Princess) the hope that the legitimacy of marriage to Lisa would help solve his image and perhaps legal problems.

American I***t, I mean Idol was a huge mistake.
The sound in this album is a departure from his previous teen and safe pop sound, American Idol doesn't help at all in order to be considered away from that.
She should have pushed her debut towards other kinds of shows. From the Basement comes to mind, but, would she be up to that task? hmmm... maybe not so there you go, it is what it is.
American Idol was not pushing the envelope Lisa ;) it was safe as milk and now see the charts.

I just bought the album on itunes last night after previewing the tracks. I have to say I love it, and not just because she is Lisa Marie. "Sticks and Stones" is probably my favorite right now and everyone on this board should listen to it because she has some interesting things to say. The track "storm and grace" has to be about her daddy in my opinion because it seems to fit him perfectly. I liked the first album, the second was just too moody to listen to, but this one has been on my ipod nonstop since I downloaded. It is awesome because she will never have to feel the need to right a book (not like she would Thank God) because she has said so much in her music. In many ways Elvis did very much the same thing in the 1970's by his choice of songs that many fans and critics would have to agree seemed very autobiographical. Great job Lisa, I think your Daddy would be proud:)

I agree Sticks and Stones is great, my favorite. I kind of thought the same thing about Storm and Grace but just like her dad we probably read a lot more into there songs than there might be.

It’s embarrassing for the performer if they can't fill at least 80% of the venue. It takes a big singer to fill a 20,000+ venue.

Hey Brian what are the average copies being sold for a big artist today? That is not very many sales for her, Elvis on the other hand sells almost just as many as these numbers. I know they say now that there are not many people that buy albums anymore like in the years past. Thank you.

So she's sold 13,260 copies within the first two weeks according to the figures Brian has, that's not that bad. I think Lisa in particular will always struggle to have that huge impact on the charts due to who she is. She really does have big shoes to fill and it may be that because everyone assumes she will release something on par with Elvis, that everything she does release isn't given a chance. That being said, I won't buy her album because as I've said before, girlie rock isn't my thing. Rock on Lisa, do your thing (y)

I don't agree. She can not fill his shoes period!,,,,,and I think the statement really is unfair to Elvis and his fans. He was a wonder, a unique talent,,,and please......anyone expecting her to fill his shoes in the slightest would have to be nuts. And his fans surely are smart enough to not have those high expectations. They love Elvis for who and what he was,,they don't need Lisa to perpetuate some fantacy of having him still here in her form.
Some children of fame get a jump start because of who they are,,,but eventually..they are on their own to sell themselves. By now,,,she is.
You don't hear the Lennon children complaining about any of it,,,,Then using it to sell themselves. I tired of her whinning, complaining and drama.
It is the same with her mother.

So, are you suggesting that no one, nowhere will compare her to her father? Please!!! It's inevitable, and no, I wasn't saying she could fill her fathers shoes. I was saying she will always live with the assumption that she can be what her father was. How that is insulting to Elvis fans is beyond me. You're tired of her whining and complaining? Debtbruno: Your statement got off track. Of course she (her existing and peoples interest in her) is important as his only child. But her music is not,,in a long standing way,,,she is on her own with that by now. If people showed interest because of her father,,,it is she herself that will keep them coming back.
Snake Eyes: Of course they will compare,,,but comparing is one thing and expecting her to fill her father's shoes is another-and those are her words. So what if she has to live with that assumption. (although I doubt anyone expects her to be his clone_ That is what I am saying. Again,,you do not hear the Lennons, Dweezel Zappa, Jakob Dylan, complaining about it.
Personally, I think she needs to "get a grip".

And where exactly would these boys be in life without their famous fathers? Do you really believe people don't cast assumptions in the direction of Julian Lennon?? Is he the same as John, can he write like John, does he think he's bigger than Jesus, what's your mum like etc etc. They all have big shoes to fill and none of them will come remotely close to their fathers' successes. You can bet your life they whinge and complain.

I didn't miss nothing. You don't like LMP or anything she says or does, don't read about it. If I don't like something or someone, I don't waste my time with it. How did you jump to the conclusion I think it's a crime for people not to like her music?? I never said that, you jumped all over my initial opinion saying how you're so bored of her attitude blah blah blah blah blah. I'm stating that I cannot be bothered to comment or watch interviews / read press releases of people I don't like, but that's just me. I bought Lisa's new cd storm and grace, prior to purchasing it I listened to the tracks then having listened to them I bought it. I bought it cos of Lisa's music not cos she's Elvis' daughter.
People have compared her to her father cos she has similiar characteristics and she looks like him, they compare and make comments and she has every right to say how she feels about being the daughter of Elvis Presley. I admire her cos she lays her heart and soul bare in her music and then she shares that, I think that's a very brave thing to do when she's received negative comments and criticism when all she's done is be Lisa.
