After giving this infamous release another listen, i was surprised again to hear how many good performances there are on here.
I Got A Woman / Amen [JD DIVEBOMBER] , It's Midnight [REAL PASSION] , Big Boss Man [ROCKIN] and the rarer You Gave Me A Mountain [SPOKEN] along with the controversial stuff Priscilla Monologue/Drugs Monologue, its not a bad release, would u guys like this given the GRAVEL ROAD treatment, or FTD maybe [perhaps FTD wouldnt go near it though] http://elvis-tkc.com/forum2/style_emoticons/default/undecided.gif

Personally, after hearing the "drug ranting/strung out" monologue, I'd rather not ever hear it again.

I have it and listen to certain performances on it often. Elvis sounds great as far as his singing, very strong. I'd much rather have it than not.

If you can get rid of the rants and raving, and focus on the music, it was a great concert.

It sure is See See Rider.
So sick of fans bashing this show,
its amazing, and I dont see no problem with elvis telling the crowd what was on his mind.
My thoughts are the same for closing night 73!

I have always been of the belief that Elvis' performances during that controversial August/September '74 engagement in Las Vegas were among the strongest of his live career!! The power and passion that Elvis sings with during these performances is amazing and, in some cases, stronger than I have ever heard him sing those songs!! (y)

As for releasing the DESERT STORM show itself, I would certainly welcome a GRAVEL ROAD treatment of the show...but I really don't think that this show is something that FTD will ever release, mainly due to the in-between song monologues!! Plus, I really think that FTD has done a good job of covering this engagement with the IT'S MIDNIGHT, NEVADA NIGHTS and FROM SUNSET TO VEGAS CD's!! My guess is with these 3 releases in the FTD catalog, there probably won't be anymore releases covering this engagement...although we can always hope... ;)

Great comments Mike, my sentiments exactly. However, there maybe a slim chance that the show where Elvis introduces Jackie Wilson who was in the audience that night could be released. I think there's a snippet on FROM SUNSET TO VEGAS –– it certainly would be nice to have.

People are over judging this great show. I'm sure that if this drug rant wasn't on this album (and two other dialogues) everybody would be praising this show as one of his best. Elvis WAS enjoying himself and that can clearly be heard.

I've always been under the impression that whatever Elvis used during those shows in September/October 1974, he was also using that in the May-June-July tours of 1975. He was abnormal talkative, very energetic and upbeat, sometimes also with dark humor. But nobody is talking negative about that period. I guess the only differences are those few (very honest and from the heart!) dialogues in 1974.

Have to agree with all of you guys about this show. I have had this cd for 2 years already and I've heard it many many times.
It's a fantastic show and wouldn't be as half as good without the monologues. That's what makes it very interesting. The voice sounds very powerful even though Elvis had a toothache that day and it's very hard to sing when you have a toothache believe me did it once and never again :) Anyway beautiful versions of Bread's Aubrey, It's midnight, Big boss man,Softly as I leave you and Hawaiian wedding song. Those are my favorites from that eve and the other ones are fantastic too.

It's certainly become 'infamous' in it's own right, personally I think everyone gets hot under the collar unneccesarily.

I never faulted Elvis for the rant. After all the years he was blasted by the media and kept his cool, I think it was long overdue.

Me neither. For someone living under such pressure, having done over 1000 shows in 7 years, a couple of rants should be forgivable. It's way less worse than many of those poor 45 minutes shows Elvis did in 1976 or 1977.

I still think, as with "Closing Night, '73", that I would rather keep it on the shelf.

This is a GREAT concert!!! One of his best in spite of the 'rant' and I enjoy listening to it often.

If you take away the drug talk, and focus purely on the performances that night, they were brilliant.

Amazing fans act like they know how Elvis Should have acted, he's put up with the tabloids for years, and he finally let them know how he felt, and I agree 100 percent with him in that regard.

Well something has changed and that is probably that most comments here seem to be positive. Five years ago you would have these professionals throw their reasons at you why listening to this show is like the worst thing that ever could happen.
