I was looking at how many visitors have toured Graceland since it opened publicly in 1982 and if you take the average numbers of 500,000 annually (actually it's more than that, between 2000, to 2007 it was estimated at over 600,000 a year) and multiply that number by 29, you'll get 14,500,000. That's 14 million, 500 thousand visitors. That's more than the city populations of New York, Chicago, and LA all combined. It's also more than the population of Shanghai (13,831,900 as of 2010), the world's largest populated city! That's a phenomenal accomplishment in it's own right. If there's any doubt that Elvis is still iconic and followed around the world, then look no further than his appeal and these amazing numbers of yearly visitors. A majority of which are under the age of 40. Elvis would have been 76.
Just imagine how much those numbers would grow IF they ever got the expansion off the ground. SMH
