i was given a copy of billy stanleys doc a ride to remember dvd and i was not surprised he is still trying to milk the cow with this one. I found this documentary silly and really low budget , his socks must have cost more than the production costs, roaming around the usa and recalling all those great things ELVIS PRESLEY done for you and your family is a great idea if you really loved the man. Unfortunetly he comes off as unsincere with those crockadile tears and some of the tales he tells and how close the stanleys were to ELVIS is a definate crock, as is the claim that this is a heartfelt documentary, this is one to avoid and put in the bin!

Actually the Stanley brothers were very close to Elvis and his everyday life. Unfortuantely their loyalty has disappeeared in favor of greed with the exception of Ricky, who's a well respected minister these days.
Perhaps in the last few years of his life they were close-but thats the extent of it. They lived with Vernon and Dee in their house until old enough to take positions with Elvis on the road, in 69 they were kids ringside with Vernon and Dee. So they finally went out with Elvis years later and were as close to him as most on tour.
Proximity to someone does not always mean-closeness. Listening to most who knew Elvis-all were his closest friends-best of pals....according to their projects.....
I imagine truthfully only Elvis knew who he really felt close to-such as Billy Smith who undoubtably was as close to Elvis as most anyone could be.

I've met David and Ricky. David's an asshole. Ricky's a class act. Never met Billy though.
I've met Rick at a revival meeting he preached at- he was a very nice sincere man... who does use his Elvis stories to try and do good as he see's it.
I am glad I have never met David.
I wouldn't cross the street to talk to any of them.

I wouldn't pee on any of them if they were on fire
there has been no decent Elvis books or docs with any of their names associated with it
