So, fellow Elvis fiends....what's your favorite song from one of the lesser movies? No songs from anything pre-Blue Hawaii. Also No Viva Las Vegas songs. Two of mine would have to be "All I Needed was the Rain" from Stay Away Joe or "Hard Luck" from Frankie and Johnny.

I love songs from the "Spinout" soundtrack like "Adam and Evil", "All That I Am" and "Stop, Look and Listen". Also, I really enjoy the "Girls! Girls! Girls!" soundtrack with songs like "I Don't Want To Be Tied" and "We'll Be Together".

Ok this is a good one!

This is a top ten list of actually good songs out of awful movies/soundtracks

1. Return To Sender -from Girls Girls Girls! Well, I actually like this movie, I know, lots of fans don't, but Elvis the real guy kind of show himself a bit, and Return To Sender, is one of Elvis greatest moments by any yardstick including anything made back in Memphis.

2. A Little Less Conversation -from Live a Little Love a Little. This once unknown song was a favourite of many among Elvis fans way before they did the #1 remix and the world cup.

3. They Remind Me To Much of You -from It Happened at the Worlds Fair. Elvis looks great, but is there anything more whitebread that this Elvis movie and its soundtrack? yet we got that gem, one of his finest moment as a ballad singer.

4. Change of Habit -from Change of Habit. Well this one has a cool beat isn't it? and watch out with that fuzzy bass line!

5. Big Love, Big Heartache -from Roustabout. This one was as good as Can't Help Falling in Love or It Hurts Me. If released as a single, it might have gave him the top 10 hit he didn't have for the first time in 1964 since he was with RCA.

6. The Meanest Girl in Town -from Girl Happy, not the worst Elvis movie but neither a high point right? yet this rocker does it pretty well to me, it should have been the single instead of oh what a shame: Do The Clam!

7. Clean Up Your Own Back Yard. from The Trouble With Girls (and how to get into it). Almost as if he recorded the thing in Memphis or something. (Well actually what you hear there are The Memphis Horns) Yes, horns and vocals where overdubbed with the same batch of songs he recorded at American Studios in early '69.

8. I´ll Be Back -from Spinout. OK is not such a great song and the lyrics are to much of a cliché, well this is hollywood dumb rubish, don't expect much. But wait, and take some notice of those guitar licks. There is certainly some charm in this song.

9. Catchin´ On Fast -from Kissin' Cousins. Elvis most embarrasing movie? well there are many contenders for that and that's the sad thing about the movies phase. But in here the soundtrack wasn't that bad, well despite the Barefoot Ballad. Catchin' On Fast on the other hand as well as Tender Feeling, are the living proof that if the right material was delivered to him, and backed up with the right band, the british invasion was no challenge for him at all, here he sounds perfectly cool and in tune with times (a better example of course is Viva las Vegas). Back in the mid sixties: Myth: the british invasion killed Elvis Presley. True: Hall Wallis and Col. Parker Killed Elvis Presley.

10. It Won't Be Long. from Double Trouble. Well actually a bonus song on the LP as it was not featured in the film, yet it was recorded with the rest of the soundtrack material and was not a Nashville bonus track so... It does counts to me. About this song, its quite diffrente from the songs he recorded in that era, and I think it is actually a good song, it just needed a bit more time in the studio. It could have been great one if recorded not for a film back in nashville in '66 among Fools Fall in Love.

the Tickle Me soundtrack ruled, because it was Elvis is Back tracks

but I think "You Don't Know Me" from clambake could have been an amazing single for Elvis

Oooooh.... this is my topic :D

Many of my favorite songs come from the bad movies:

Clambake:
* You Don't Know Me

Double Trouble:
* There's So Much World To See
* City By Night

Frankie & Johnny
* Beginner's Luck

Harum Scarum:
* My Desert Serenade
* Mirage
* Kismet
* Golden Coins
* So Close, Yet So Far From Paradise
* Animal Instinct

Kissin' Cousins:
* Once Is Enough

Spinout:
* I'll Be Back

The Trouble With Girls:
* Almost

Live a Little, Love a Little
* Wonderful World

These are all pretty bad movies, but with some fantastic songs! Since I don't consider GI Blues, Fun in Acapulco, Charro, Change of Habits, Girls! Girls! Girls!, Follow That Dream, Jailhouse Rock, Loving You, Roustabout and Viva Las Vegas not really bad movies, I haven't listed songs from those movies.

Probably going to go with the Harum Scarum soundtrack.

The movie was fun, entertaining, but not to be taken serious, enjoy it for what it is, and IMO, Elvis sung like a bird on these songs, not that great of material, but Elvis' as with anything brings life to them....FTD soundtrack is my all time favorite:)

A great recording of this is on the "Double Trouble" FTD release... the alternate Take 10 is GREAT!

Harum Scarum to me is such a low point, yet when you lisen carefully to the soundtrack, Elvis voice was in top shape, he really sounded beautyful on whatever material they gave him. Such a waste! as he really was delivering in '65.

Oh and here is another cool song among the awfulness:

Animal Instinct.

This is DEFINITELY a cool topic!!! :cool:

Here is my list of songs which I think are great songs from the "lesser quality" movies (in no particular order):

* CHANGE OF HABIT (from CHANGE OF HABIT)
* CITY BY NIGHT (from DOUBLE TROUBLE)
* THE GIRL I NEVER LOVED (from CLAMBAKE)
* WONDERFUL WORLD (from LIVE A LITTLE, LOVE A LITTLE)
* ALMOST IN LOVE (from LIVE A LITTLE, LOVE A LITTLE)
* I'LL BE BACK (from SPINOUT)
* DRUMS OF THE ISLANDS (from PARADISE, HAWAIIAN STYLE)
* HARD LUCK (from FRANKIE & JOHNNY)
* HOUSE OF SAND (from PARADISE, HAWAIIAN STYLE) (I just like this song...) ;)
* LET US PRAY (from CHANGE OF HABIT)
* POISON IVY LEAGUE (from ROUSTABOUT) (another one I just like...) ;)

* I'LL TAKE LOVE (from EASY COME, EASY GO)

Hmmm...I think that's all of them... :hmm: ;)

Shame on you Mike! Shame on you HARD! How dare you to say Roustabout is a bad movie? It's not one of his bad, but it's not in the league of the Double Trouble's and the Kissin' Cousins of this world ;)

To me, Elvis only did a few "bad" movies. But to answer your topic question, here's mine.

Once Is Enough - Kissin Cousins
This Is My Heaven/Drums Of The Island (tie) - Paradise Hawaiian Style
Hard Luck - Frankie & Johnny
Clean Up Your Own Back Yard - The Trouble With Girls (And How they Get Into It)

I personally don't consider ROUSTABOUT a bad movie either...as I mentioned in my post, I was including songs from his "lesser quality" movies. And when you compare ROUSTABOUT to movies like JAILHOUSE ROCK, KING CREOLE or VIVA LAS VEGAS, it's a "lesser quality" movie. Personally I think ROUSTABOUT is a fine movie and really deserves more acclaim than it gets. Usually when people are talking about Elvis' movies, after BLUE HAWAII they only mention VIVA LAS VEGAS as a good movie and I think that's a shame. I personally think ROUSTABOUT is one of his better efforts and deserves to be mentioned when talking about which of his mid-60's movies are of above average quality. ;)

Hopefully that clarifies my position my friend, and I apologize for offending you... :blush: ;) :D

Man, there are some great choices on here. I'd have to give a hearty amen to: Meanest girl in town, Clean up your own backyard, please don't stop loving me, could I fall in love (from my choice of the worst movie), Wonderful World, and I'll Take Love. When I posed the question, and thanks for all the responses, I put "bad" in quotes because I enjoy most of the movies....even the lesser quality ones. Most of them. Everything is relative you know. Even a "bad" Elvis movie or song is better than most anything else your gonna hear. Especially to all of us.
