I've been messing around lately in my spare time on what albums and box set projects would be ideal for the Elvis catalog to add. So I came up with this. With 2012 just right around the corner and the 40th anniversary of both the historical MSG shows and the EOT movie, I was thinking what if Sony Music did a box set of live tour material. We already have the nice but incomplete Live In Las Vegas box set that focuses on Elvis in Vegas only, but that covers a small portion of his live performances as a whole. I came up with a way for Sony Music to repackage what I consider to be the definitive live collection of professionally recorded multi track material into a 4-cd box set. This would save them money by remastering and mixing the As Recorded At Madison Square Garden and the Elvis In Concert album and putting them into a single project without having to flood the market with a bunch of individual live albums.

We all know that the great energetic Hampton Roads show has yet to be released and is deserving to be, we know the original MSG album has never been updated, we know that the Alternate Aloha dress rehersal show has also yet to be released, properly anyway and the June '77 CBS shows have yet to be given the proer remastering treatment. Here's what I came up with that would showcase the best of Elvis live on tour from those performances. (below is my idea for a box set artwork cover in book format)

While this is all wishful thinking (SONY Music isn't smart enough to think this up, lol) it shows that there is a way to package all of these shows into one project that the consumer would be intrigued to hearing. The image of Elvis on stage is based around the Aloha special on dvd and his Vegas shows from TTWII. This set gives a more comprehensive look at the live performer on the road and away from Vegas.

Certainly an interesting idea Vivaelvis, and I especially love the box artwork you created!! (y)

Hopefully with 2012 being the 40th anniversary of ELVIS ON TOUR, Sony will finally get around to releasing a box set of the shows, rehearsals and studio sessions recorded during the filming of EOT. I know we've had several items from EOT released on different CD's, but it would be nice to finally have it all together in one complete box set INCLUDING previously unreleased material, like the complete Hampton Roads show as well as the complete Greensboro show and any of the other shows that RCA recorded for the film. :hmm:

Hopefully the shows you mentioned in your concept like ELVIS IN CONCERT and the MADISON SQUARE GARDEN shows (both afternoon and evening) will get the proper remastering and re-release treatment either on the main label or the FTD "Classic Albums" series!!! (y)

Nevertheless Vivaelvis, very interesting and creative concept!! ;)

Now THAT would be the proper way to release the MSG shows on the main Sony label!! (y)

I still am holding out hope that the FTD label will release the original MSG show in the "Classic Albums" series and add the afternoon show as the 2nd disc -- with both shows remastered, of course!! :hmm: ;)

Here's one I did for a possible future Sony Music release of the last concert from Indianapolis, In. I think this might be the single most fascinating photo I have ever seen from Elvis in 77.

Now if only Sony/FTD could find a soundboard recording for that show, to go along with the awesome artwork you've designed... :hmm:

Unfortunately it's in private hands but RCA has been interested in making an offer. The last time they offered a deal the owner wanted way too much. If it were to ever be released I would buy it too!

I'm going to be doing some more soon. One for A new Jungleroom album and a couple more fantasy albums.

Great idea, great concert selection and great art work. Now please send you resume to RCA/SONY as soon as possible. They need new fresh ideas from people who really care about the greatest singer in music history. Way to go VivaElvis.
