Looking at how RCA releases their usual Elvis products and how Sony is now in control of releases, I came up with a tentative release schedule of how things might shape out over the next 2 years and of projects that make the most since. This is just a pure speculation and no confirmation. None of these have been announced by RCA or FTD.
2011
June-August
'Elvis 56' reissue (2-disc set with outtakes) RCA
October-November
'Viva Elvis' Deluxe edition with additional tracks? RCA
December
Christmas Album? (maybe overdubbed tracks with new instrumental backings) RCA
2012
April
'Live In Hampton Roads' (FTD)
June
'The NY Experience' 40th Anniversary (3-disc box set with booklet, both shows newly mixed and remastered and 1 dvd of complete press conference) RCA
July
'My Way'-The Lost Album (compilation of studio tracks from 1971-72) RCA
August
'The Complete Hits Collection' (4 disc box set of all of Elvis' top 40 Billboard singles) RCA
Septmber-October
Duets Album? (best time for one since it'll be the 35th death anniversary) RCA

My stomach is hurting again :(
What an uninspiring list. This is nothing different from anything that they released the past decades. Still the same strategy and vision on how to run Elvis' catalogue. Where's the guts? And uhhh.... where's Ernst?
I would love to see someone trying to show the world Elvis was more than the "greatest-hits" artist that they are used to know. Pushing a compilation with lesser-known material with a good marketing campaign. Not trying to re-release the same hits, hoping for it to be bought by the same Elvisfans.
What's Elvis' biggest hits (sold in numbers)? The remix of A Little Less Conversation. Do we really have to have another outsider (like Junkie XL was) to pick a relative unknown hit and see the hit potential of it? The only reaction of BMG to this sudden, unexpected succes was to release another greatest hits album (#1's) and let this new hit boost that album. And the next step of BMG? Repeat the formula: let another DJ remix a song and put that one on another greatest hits album.
Unbelievable.....

Curious as to how you came up with such an explicit list since you admit you have no info from Sony/RCA and that you are speculating on your own......how did you arrive at the titles and release dates?

I got the list from seeing a pattern of how RCA presents Elvis packages in the past. If you noticed when they release a low budget album and a major mainstream album. The best times for sales are in the spring and in the fall season. I just feel we will see some of these projected releases become a reality within the next 22 months.
2012 will be the 40th anniversary of the MSG shows and that would be a marketing promotion for such a release.
There's plans for a duets album this year but I think RCA and Sony will delay it until 2012 for the big 35th anniversary of his passing.
As for the 'Viva Elvis' reissue; RCA put a lot of money into that album so they will have to find a way to make up for the losses on the back of poor album sales. A deluxe expanded edition with the remaining remixes is the only way to go for them to do just that.
As we all know, every year or other year we get a new Christmas compilation. No reason to think otherwise this year.
And, this is the 55th anniversary of Elvis' commercialized debut in 56 and re-releasing 'Elvis 56' with an additional disc of outtakes would be ideal for both consumers and collectors.
The box set of the complete hits collection is an idea that I have heard flowing around for a couple years now. I think it was canceled due to the economy at the time.
The 'My Way' album has potential to be the "ultimate 70's album" concerning Elvis' premier work. To fans, it may not be. But to consumers and critics it would be well accepted as it presented some stellar work. Burning Love, Always On My Mind, Separate Ways, I'm Leavin' and It's Only love are just a few for starters. Then there's the rare studio version of a classic, My Way.
Here's a potential track listing for the 'My Way' album.
1.Burning Love
2.Where Do I Go From Here
3.Fool
4.I'm Leavin'
5.It's Only Love
6.We Can Make The Morning
7.Always On My Mind
8.Help Me Make It Through The Night
9.Separate Ways
10.It's A Matter Of Time
11.For The Good Times
12.Until It's Time For You To Go
13.Fools Rush In
14.Put Your Hand In The Hand
15.My Way
16.The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face
Well I guess time will tell, as it always does.

Interesting selections. I'd love to see a LEGACY version of the classic TTWII album with a live concert on Disc two.
I'm going through a TTWII phase at the moment but it's one of the highlights of his career.

Interesting List. Just for the record Sony state that they will not be releasing another 'Viva Elvis' album. The 'Duets' album will now, more than likely, not be released until 2012. Sony state that there will only be established big stars on that one and no 'X' Factor or 'American Idol' contestants. I have suggested to them that they should concentrate, as far as possible, on using the lesser known Elvis tracks for a change. I hope they listen!!
Finally, Sony state that 2011 will be a 'fallow' year for Elvis releases.

Hi Brian – with a 'fallow' year in prospect what potential Elvis LEGACY CDs do think may be released?

"Elvis is Back" backed with "Something for Everybody" (singles from '60 to '61 as bonus tracks) is being released next month.
I have no idea what would be next on the Legacy label.
I think an obvious choise is "Elvis Presley" (the first album) backed with "Elvis" (the second one), (singles from '56) as bonus tracks.
Yes TTWII on Legacy would be a must. Backed with a full concert from Aug '70, (plus Singles from '70)
Wonder if "Elvis Country: I'm 10,000 years old" is on the works on this legacy reissue series.
In 2012 we for sure be seeing the "Live at the Madison Square Garden", probably backed with "An Afternoon in the Garden", maybe some '72 singles as a bonus.

Great comments. Yes TTWII LEGACY is high on my list, hope it comes out this year. I have pr-ordered Elvis Is Back – that's a no-brainer. Sure love to see the Madison '72 concerts released, here's hoping...

Hey Brian, do you think that there will be an Elvis/Carrie Underwood duet in the making?

The `My Way' album has a good list of songs, but I wouldn't use My Way as the title track. Sadly he did a terrible stuido version and it rightly stayed unreleased during his lifetime.

As stated above, SONY state that only well established major stars will be used for the 'Duets' album.

So then that would include Carrie, right? Afterall she is one of the top selling artists out there.

Sony haven't started on the selection of artists yet. We will all just have to wait and see.

I'd like to see the 2 most important mega sessions Elvis did in the 70's be re-appraised and released in a one CD best of album removing the filler material which accounts for probably 50% of the sessions:
Sudio B: Best of Elvis in Nashville 1970/71 (I prefer the undubbed masters of these sessions which are much more intimate)
Stax: Best of Elvis at Stax, Memphis 1973
These would make great repeat listening and I think get good critical reviews.
