I'm gonna give my two cents about some of the FTD's I've gotten that don't have any reviews written. I'm not going to go into the depth that some of you do but I figure some data is better than none. Some of the things I like and dislike are:


1. Several good complete versions of Help Me Make it Through the Night and Fools Rush in. There must have been a wealth of outtakes of these two songs as the 2nd CD is full of them. It's neat to hear Elvis slowing down and speeding up the songs. Especially Fools Rush in. One version is so fast, it almost seems like another song.

2. No outtakes of Sylvia, which is a favorite of mine. That was a downer.

3. The highlight of the CD to me is the unedited Jam of Don't Think Twice It's Alright. This song runs over 9 minutes long and is so good it feels like it's about 3 minutes. Great song for riding down the road in your car or bike. I play this CD quite a bit and alot of the time it's just to get to this song.

4. No outtakes of We can Make the Morning! Another one of my favorites. No Sylvia AND no We can Make the Morning?!?!? I love the emotion in these songs and if the outtakes aren't on here, am I to guess they don't exist?

4. The packaging is like most of the FTD Classic Re-issues. There is a synopsis of events surrounding the Albums release with some pics, a couple of pages of documents from RCA about the recordings and a complete listing of the sessions. One picture that I found interesting is of Elvis in his Palm Springs home modeling a jumpsuit. There are no other people around....it's looks like he wanted to see how it looked on camera. A picture for himself.

Summary: I love Don't think Twice. I'd buy it for that alone. Your probably reading this and trying to decide which one to buy so I will say that the bulk of the outtakes are limited to a couple songs. There are a few others but most of them are of HMMITTN and Fools Rush In. Get it and enjoy a really good album. It's Elvis in
1971 (released in 1972). 'nuff said.

[IM4Elvis]

IMHO, an underrated album in 1972 and often under appreciated now in 2011. This album contains material which shows the amazing diversity of Elvis. Not many performers/singers can sing material from a wide range of music. Elvis demonstates that here. Clearly in late 1971/1972 he was transitioning in his career from a "rock star" / "movie star" per se, to a complete performer/entertainer. Honestly, that is why "Aloha" is probably so different from TTWII. On this album in addition to the variety of musical interests demonstrated, his voice his awesome.
Beyond this, I appreciate the FTD treatment of this album. I really enjoy the outtakes and some of the studio banter. Having Lady Madonna, even though only a jam, is very much appreciated.
