60s - Pocketful of Rainbows
70s - Mary In The Morning (undubbed ideally)

For sensitivity: In My Way, Just Can't Help Believing
For power: HGTA (live), Trying to Get To You (live)

I wouldn't put it in my top fav songs..........but I think Bridge over Troubled Waters showcased his vocal ability.............

Your list makes a great point-the type of song highlights differing parts of the great voice Elvis had.(y)

also i think that Love me and My way really shows what he can do with a song.He can sing any type of music, rock, country, gospel and blues.Anyway, does anyone here know what album the song''Clean up your own Backyard'' is from?

Wow, nobody mentioned "In The Ghetto". The best singing ever recorded, by anyone. Perfect pitch and control with no overblown vocal dramatics.

When I heard Elvis sing "Until It's Time For You To Go" in Vegas in 1972, his voice was perfection.

I liked his voice much more in the earlier days. I think it was much more unique back then. I really like Milky White Way & I'll Never Let You Go. I do feel my opinion is in the minority though.

An evening prayer... and most of his gospel songs.

Indescribably Blue!

That's an easy question, the answer of course is: "Surrender". It showcases his extreme range in power, sensitivity and chords. The only aspect of Elvis' voice that isn't showcased with this song is his raw voice.

For Me It's About 5 Songs
1. Heartbreak Hotel
2. Have I Told You Lately That I Love You
3. Angel
4. How The Web Was Woven
5. The Sound Of Your Cry...
And Then All The Rest...ha ha ha

Don't forget Elvis also excelled with such tracks as 'Suppose'; 'Could I Fall In Love'; 'Am I Ready'; 'Beginner's Luck'; 'Puppet On A String' etc. I have never heard anyone come close to Elvis for singing such type of songs.

Yeah, but the question was more like: "imagine you could play one Elvis song to someone to showcase Elvis' vocal talent". That's something different then listing great or well-sung songs ;)

We can close this topic, the answer is Surrender :p (just kidding)

All great choices!

My favourite is "HOW THE WEB WAS WOVEN" Elvis' voice is outstanding...In all I love every single song Elvis has ever sung..

03-10-2011, 10:13 AM

Amazing performance indeed, but it shows more Elvis' vocal power than reach. There's little high chords in this song (unlike in for example Surrender)

03-10-2011, 02:17 PM
Indescribably Blue And In The Ghetto : ))))

03-11-2011, 03:26 AM
tender Feeling is just beautifully sung, for raw power i really like Power of my love, but for range either it's now or never or What now my love are just amazing as is Tomorrow Never comes and also the long version of Washed my Hands in Muddy water.
