Hello everybody, so I got a date question here about the picture posted below (the one with the Guitar), for a long time, and because Elvis leather wrist band and clock, I assumed it was a publicity photo session that took place around the time the '68 comback special. Yet I just discovered, in the booklet of the "From Nashville To Memphis, the essential 60's masters" cd set, that it is dated: January 1968.

If that is correct: means that Elvis leather wrist band and clock where not part of the '68 comback Leather suit designed by Bill Belew? Now that is new to me then, as I was sure they came with it. Other wise, they date it wrong on that Boxset.

Well if they didn't, anybody knows the story of where and how he got them? (I've also noticed that he keept using the leather wristband during the filming of Charro).

Thanks.

I don't think the black leather suit came with the watch and band.

YEP, that's what I used to think too my friend. But just notice on the Cd booklet of From Nashville To Memphis, that that photo session is dated January 1968. And now also I got Tommy believing they didn't came with the suit but they where Elvis belongings prior Bill Belew.

Anybody else got a vote on this? or even better some hard data about it?

Now, here is another question that if solved might help to solve the leather wristband and clock issue: Does that green shirt photos where take at the same sessions as these red shirt ones? In other words, does all the publicity photos below are from the same photo session? When does that photo session happened? around the time or way before the '68 NBC TV special.

I think they are, remember Stay Away Joe was filmed fall '67 but released until early '68, so some pics for that could been shot in early '68. Publicity photo sessions for that (wearing a cowboy hat and jacked) also resulted in the cover of the Flaming Star L.P. Buy I believe that same day, without the hat and jacket, but with the same red shirt and red dots black scarf, publicity photos where taken and also used for the In the Ghetto cover. Then I tend to believe, he kept the scarf, but changed the red shirt for the green one, and some other pics where taken, then he got rid of the scarf and some other where taken.

If I'm correct, the pics of Elvis with the green shirt and the leather wristbands, where not form the '68 comeback, but from the Stay Away Joe photo session early '68 (although not from the time of the movie shooting).

But to be honest, I have no idea now.

elvis wore a bulova accutron astronaut 214 watch during 67 -68, as he liked it that much he had it put on a leather cuff witch he wore during the 68 special and had a leather wristband made also to match. I have pics if you want to see. He wore a different leather wristband during charro to that of the 68 special, again I have pics for proof.

I can tell you one thing for sure-that after the special, suddenly a lot of guys were wearing the exact same watch/wristbands at my junior high school, and the apache scarfs with the silver or gold metal scarf clasp. I could not afford the leather wristbands-but did have the Apache scarf.:D

I would kill (well not really) for an exact replica that elvis watch and wristband. Not one with an Elvis photo inside the watch, I mean exact lol.

Yes those bands were so cool, very macho.... the guy who actually pioneered the wearing of those leather wristbands was the actor, Gilbert Roland who was popular in the late 30s and into the 60s first as a Valentino type latin lover later as a character actor.
Roland played Robert Wagners father in the 1950s era movie "Beneath the 12 Mile Reef". He wore those band every chance he could in many westerns and other movies it was a trademark of his.

What I love about this photo is that you can clearly see that Elvis has makeup on to give him a tanned look, look closely at the hair line and Elvis' chest

You right, the one in Charro is another one, very similar. The one in Stay Away Joe is another one too.

Love the replica you got. Did you travel to NY, or you can get it by mail?

Hmmm... I still need to know the exact date the first photos I posted where taken. Do you know?

Thanks for the help indeed.

I got it by mail, he has a good understanding of the watch in question, if you want his addresse or email just let me know.
As for the two pics you originally posted, they are from the same shoot, just the one on the right seems to have more contrast which makes it look like he's wearing a different colour shirt etc. After a bit research, I found that these are publicity photos for the 68 special which could of been taken around the time of filming may, june or july 68, or just before the air date in dec 68. There are various candid photos of elvis wearing the same shirt in june 68 and even november 68, as for the dates of the pictures you posted I'm not really sure, but I will find out and let you know soon as possible. Pic below is from nov 68 wearing that same green shirt at his hillcrest home in beverly hills.
