I suspect most members have watched the release Elvis the great performances and have seen this clip. However, it has always struck me as unusual how as the curtain falls it cuts to a particularly unusual angle and the picture quaility changes which makes it seem newsreel rather than professionally filmed for ttwii. the picture quailty seems very similar to interview footage with shirley bassey, henry mancini and george hamilton from july 31st 1969. when you freezeframe at 1.43 you can see black boots and vellbottom under the curtain. What do you think? I know in american trilogy from the same programme we get a sneak look at some other 69 footage. Many thanks

This was a cutted footage, and I think they showed the same in "This Is Elvis" documentary too. He always finished the shows with "Can't Help Falling In Love". I also noticed that some of the footages from 1970 didn't remain in very good quality. For example the outtakes on the TTWII DVD (the double disc version) are not so good quality, like the movie. I didn't see black boots. LOL... He wore white there. This is a remastered 8mm footage from 69, of course the original footage had no sound, I think they tried to find out the songs what belonged to the footage:

i am just wondering and reffer only to the footage after 1.43 when the angle switches to a side view of the stage if this is from 1969... if so is there any more of it? no angle in the footage you provided is the same as the one after 1.43. the footage you provided seems amateur whereas this (the footage after 1.43) seems to be newsreel. also if you pause at 1.43 you can clearly see in widescreen view, black bell bottoms and boots. i am wondering if this is additional footage shot by the nbc crew who filmed the celebrity interviews before 7/31/1969 and if more exists.

I think now I understand what you mean, I saw it too. I think it is from 1970 as well, but maybe it was one of his bodyguards, I think they were not Elvis' boots.

i cannot help but think it is elvis.... whoelse would be stood in the middle of the stage as the curtain falls and its obviously difficult to see exactly what the boots are like but to me the outfit has a strong resemblance to the black herringbone jumpsuit and square toed boots he wore in 1969..... i wish there was more so we could see,,,, but i am of the opinion the footage after 1.43 is probably from 1969

his pose assuming it is elvis after 1.43 just reminds me of this http://www.tcb-world.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=75407&title=vegas08&cat=41
it would make sense for a newsreel nbc camera to be stationed there by the side of the stage to capture both the performer and audiences reaction

in the footage after 1.43 as the camera moves to the left ds the audeience you can see he is also getting a standing ovation which i know he recieved at the end of 7/31/69

The big question is : why would MGM use 1 sec of footage they did not film.....
Nice try, but i bet it is not Elvis Black boots we see.

in american trilogy from the same show they spliced the flute and orchestra part with lots of alternate footage including a few seconds of the 1969 footage posted by CIBetty above. All i am saying is the last few seconds of the footage i posted is not from the thats the way it is cameras

Why MGM would is not the question Kenny, as that is NOT footage from TTWII, but from WB's This Is Elvis (reused in The Great Performances homevideo).

When WB asembled the comback sequence for This is Elvis, they made the Suspicious Minds/Can't Help Falling in Love edit, yes they took that from TTWII, but edited that segment along with a) unreleased backstage footage from TTWII b) Newsreel footage from the '69 vegas season featuring interviews with the audience. c)Newsreel from the summer '72 Vegas season featuring the Hilton lobby.

Now if there is newsreel footage of the '69 audience, can't believe they shoot just the audience a not a second of Elvis, so there is a chance that that footage might appear one day, and yes, there is a chance one mini portion of that one is what we are seeing in the second half of that 1:43 second.
